Micah Warren – Random Thoughts

Is this not the worst time of year for sports?  I have been racking my feeble brain for something to talk about for the past several days.  So, I’ve cobbled together a few random thoughts that you may or may not find interesting.  I would guess the latter.

I’ve seen a few articles that say the Bears look foolish for cutting Tank Johnson after it was revealed that he was below the legal alcohol limit in Arizona.  I think the Bears would only look stupid if they continued to put up with his nonsense.  He had booze in his system and he decided to get behind the wheel and drive in a manner that got him pulled over.  That, to me, says that he’s learned nothing from his previous run-ins with the law.

If you have to drive after knocking a few back, why is it such a tough concept to keep your hands at 10 and 2, and drive within a few miles per hour of the speed limit? I’m not condoning drinking and driving; I think it’s moronic and reprehensible.  I think it’s especially dumb when you make a ton of money and can afford a cab. The bottom line is that someone who has been through what he has and is on his last chance shouldn’t even be taking the tag off of a mattress.

-The subject of the new Eagles linebacking core has been done to death, I’m well aware.  I want to look at it from a different angle: The latest Eagles 2nd-round bust.  Say what you want, but I am convinced after just two years that Matt McCoy is a flat-out bust at this point.  Second-round picks in the NFL are gold.  And to me, it seems that McCoy is the kind of gold that turns your finger green.

I know he’s only entering his third year, but if he was worth a darn, he’d be listed as a starter.  Or at the very least, he’d be in the discussions of the Eagles future at the position.  I don’t think it’s rocket surgery to suggest that the Eagles blew another 2nd-round pick on a LB.  Quinton Caver, anyone?  How about Barry Gardner?  I know I’m just running my mouth in the offseason, but I just don’t see what makes McCoy worthy of that pick.

-I made a huge oversight in my report on ESPN a few weeks ago.  I attribute my mistake to the fact that I probably don’t even watch enough ESPN to understand how much I actually can’t stand it.  I may be wrong, but isn’t “Sportscenter” supposed to be a sports news show?  What in the world is that “who is the most now athlete” NCAA-style tournament garbage?

I know it’s a slow sports time, but this is quite simply the dumbest idea that ESPN has had this side of sticking with Mike Patrick for so long.  If you haven’t seen it, the geniuses at ESPN thought it would be neat to find out who is the “Most Now Athlete,” meaning who is essentially the most popular.  They take into account how good they are, how marketable they are, etc. I actually watched a trio of idiots discuss the first-round battle between Tiger Woods and Matt Leinhart. I am at a loss for words.

Another point I failed to make was the fact that “Sportscenter” now shows Arena Football League highlights.  Since when did AFL highlights become worth showing?  When ESPN started broadcasting their games! Wonderful, let’s cover the sports in which we have a financial interest.  ESPN is so transparent it’s not even funny.

-If you have anything you want me to talk about or ask me, please feel free to email me. micahw@feverpitchmedia.com.  Actually, I’ll give you a topic:  Who is the most underrated player in the NFL?
