Eagles Should Sign Blocking TE Becht

The St. Louis Rams released veteran tight end Anthony Becht.  He would be a major upgrade for the Birds as a backup tight end because he's a much better blocker than the "human open door", Matt Schobel.

He's a seasoned veteran at 31 years old, not a great receiver but so what, the Eagles need to greatly improve the blocking of their tight ends or get a bigger insurance policy for Brian Westbrook.

Becht is 6'5" 280 pounds with good toughness and a reputation of being a good blocker.   It's a no brainer.

If you put Becht at tight end and Leonard Weaver at fullback, we won't have to be throwing the ball on 3rd and one.

Do you remember the Birds being unable to get into the end zone on Sunday night in Chicago?

This would be a good move for the Birds because it would give them experienced depth at the position.  Maybe they will be able to convert a 3rd and one more often if they have at least one tight end who can block.

I know he's not a great pass receiver but he can catch the football and would be another big target around the goalline.

He could step in and play immediately, plus he knows football and would be a good veteran to have around Brent Celek and the rookie they're going to draft.

Becht was born in Media, Pennsylvania and grew up in the area.  It would a good public relations move which wouldn't be the worst thing for the Birds right now.  Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill.
