Cowboys kicking woes

The media is really hot on the “Dallas December nosedive” angle right now since they’ve lost their only two December games so far this year.¬† While I think they lost to two good teams and I don’t see the crash-and-burn flames yet, they do have some issues.

One huge issue is their kicking game.¬† Namely, Nick Folk has been brutal lately, missing six of his last 10 attempts.¬† And he missed another against the Chargers on Sunday, in what amounted to a three-point loss.¬† That’s unacceptable for a team that wants to win anything of any significance.

“We have different options that we’re discussing,” Wade Phillips said Monday when asked whether kickoff specialist David Buehler could be used for field goals. “We’re certainly trying to work with Nick still, because I still think he’s a good kicker. At least, he has been. But we also have to look at the realities, too.”

The Cowboys have no immediate plans to go after Jason Elam or – gulp – Shaun Suisham.¬† But, here’s the problem, Buehler was brought in as a kickoff guy and hasn’t really had many reps as a placekicker this year.¬† And he might be the guy to replace Folk?¬† He’s never even attempted a FG in a regular season game.

This is not what Dallas needs to be dealing with right now.¬† I’m sure Eagles fans feel just awful for them.
