Redskins Will Host Brian Westbrook On Wednesday

ESPN is reporting that the Washington Redskins will host former Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook on Wednesday at their headquarters.

It’s amazing that Washington is looking at another veteran running backs.

The Skins have already added two veteran running backs, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker, to the backfield, which already included another veteran running back Clinton Portis.  Are they going to run a relay?

It’s reported that new Skins quarterback Donovan McNabb suggested that the Skins take a look at the former Pro Bowl running back who led the league in yards from scrimmage a few years ago.

McNabb is wise to try to get Westbrook on the roster because the other guys aren’t good receivers out of the backfield.¬† Westbrook is great at running screens and beating linebackers to get open downfield.

He would be a great fit as their third down back.

I don’t think Johnson is going to make the team because he’s got more mileage on him than either of the other two.¬† Portis and Parker have suffered injuries, but Parker is probably the one with the best speed and the least amount of mileage.

All these backs won’t be on the team when the season starts.

Westbrook previously visited the St. Louis Rams but left without signing a contract.  He said he wanted to think about it.

It’s been reported that he had a problem with the contract offer.

What would think about facing the Redskins with McNabb  and Westbrook in the backfield?

I understand Westy wants to play, but I don’t like it.

I can stomach McNabb being with the Skins, but not Westbrook. Why don’t they sign someone like Fredex?

I think Portis is released by Camp time
Most of Shanahans teams in the past have had a stable of 2-3 RB’s (outside the Terrell Davis years)
who share time and the ball… Westbrook (if Healthy) would probably be the best of the group for them for he is the only one that will block and take on Blitzing LB’s (the current 3 are not very good blockers) also, Westbrrok is a better receiver out of the backfield than the others also… Problem is that the Redksins have too much $$ tied up between the other 3 RB’s that they would probably only offer a minumum-level salary for Westbrook who probably doesn’t want to risk further damage on such a minimum type of salary…
The Best Situation for #36, I hate to say,is the NY Giants…where he would split time with Jacobs/Bradshaw and probably see more action and again knows 6 of his opponents very well in the
Cowboys,Redskins and Eagles , so if he is going to return, I think it’s with the Giants

I’m looking forward to the Eagles/Skins games so that we can expose McNabb. But Westy?! Say it ain’t so!!!! I do not want to see him play for another team, but especially not the Skins. Man, how friggin’ weird would it be to have McNabb and Westbrook together on another NFC East team playing the Eagles twice a year?!?! Bizarre!

At this point McNabb is far more of a threat than Westbrook. Between his knees/ankles and his concussion problems I don’t see how much of a threat he can be. Remember the playoff run that ended in defeat in the NFCCG in Arizona, Westbrook was basically invisible for much of that time and at the end of the year. He had that one screen against the Vikings and otherwise just was not himself before or after that. That was the beginning of the end right there.

I can see why BWest might prefer the Redskins (not that I want him playing there or anywhere else) because I believe he is from Maryland, and he and McNabb know each other’s tendencies on the field. Shanahan can’t use him to pound the ball, so he’d essentially be a “receiver.”

You know BWest would want to play for the Skins and I don’t blame him. It wouldn’t surprise me if Tre Thomas showed up there competing for the RT spot either. Thomas isn’t fast enough or really heavy enough to play LT, but he could probably start and help a couple of teams out at RT or possibly at a Guard position.

Westy’s from the area, it’s an NFC East team…If it happens I might have to seriously pick up some Redskins apparel outside of a McNabb jersey.

It would be like the twilight zone.

…and you’re retarded, Butch.
