Governor Rendell: “Redskins Will Make Playoffs, Eagles Won’t”

Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell explained his comments about former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and whether he would be rooting for the Birds or the Redskins when they play each other this year.

He told Fox29’s Joe Stasak,‚ÄúI was asked during the draft show on 610-WIP after a fan emailed and ask if the governor was going to become a Redskins‚Äô fan, knowing that I like Donovan”.

“I said, “No. Of course I am an Eagles’ fan, first and forever. “

“But understand I believe with getting rid of Donovan, they are not going to make the playoffs. I believe the Redskins adding Donovan are going to make the playoffs.”

“So if we are not in, and the Redskins have Donovan, and they’re in, I will root for Donovan and the Redskins.”

“But if we do make the playoffs, of course I will root for the Eagles.”

There you have it, Rendell thinks the Redskins will make the playoffs and the Eagles will be sitting at home watching it.¬† That’s quite a prediction.

Rendell also answered his critics who had a problem with him rooting for the Redskins if they make the playoffs and the Eagles don’t.

“I think that is crazy,” Rendell said.¬† “Once we are out, what do we care?¬† And they will get a worse draft choice if they make the playoffs.”

The governor also told a story to Howard Eskin and Ike Reese on 610-WIP yesterday about asking McNabb if his support of the signal callers over the last four or five years has made up for the way he campaigned for then Heisman Trophy winner and Texas tailback Ricky Williams to be the Eagles top pick.

Rendell said McNabb told him, “Yes you have governor, yes you have”.

I’d rather hear Rendell comment on finally seeing his crony, the “ex” Specter, now out of the “playoffs”.
If you’re still emotionally supporting McNabb’s success, you’re actually no longer standing behind the Eagles & Kolb no matter how you rationalize it… another self-serving politician already “fit” to serve in the Obama administration.

MVP for the Super Bowl by the way is WR Hank Baskett who catches 3 TD Passes and secures an
on-sides kick-off for the Vikings to lock the win 35-34 over the Jets
(The Vikings pick Baskett up in late Sept after the Eagles release him)

Now that his eligibility for Governor has expired, Fast Eddie is looking for a job in Washington DC. He wants Secretary of State. He can then do the Skins post game live show with the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia and the King of Siam (who has two unearned Super Bowl rings bought on Ebay). The man is a politician – he has no loyalties except to himself. By the way, he was a good mayor. Good Governor? Not so much.

Let’s be honest, Rendell is a washed up hack politician. He is finished on the national political level for running such a bad campaign that he got Al Gore beat as a sitting VP. If you did not like George W. thank Ed Rendell. He was laughed out of DC and had to come back to Pa to be Governor, and only managed to beat sacraficial lamb opponents. He has not been able to get a balanced budget ever, nor get his “borrow from the future and spend money I do not have” budget in on time in years. This guy is a bozo, why does anybody listen to one thing that comes out of his mouth? He knows nothing about football and I have yet to hear an insightful comment from him on PGL. He will not get to be S of S, no shot, nohow. He will be a junior grade Bill Clinton, all of the warts but no pedigree. He should go back to New York.

anderson – the secretary of state comment was tongue in cheek. The Guv is done after this. He and all the other career politicians need to be retired. At least he can do no harm on PGL 😉

The Guv. knows his football.

It should be interesting to see how all of the whiners here react when it comes to fruition. The Redskins get to, but lose the the NFC championship and the Redskins fans appreciate McNabb for being a top 3 QB in the league. (Brees, Manning, McNabb) (my guess is Moss will finally fall off in production leaving Brady struggling without a true #1 WR and the other team’s defensive plays to lean on.)

I never liked or wanted Ed Rendell’s sports opinions. He knows no more than the average fan. He’s a bore!

its funny how alot of eagle fans feel we wont make the playoffs this yr, but when we had d5 anything less than a sb was considered a failure. if this is the case y tf is d5 not our qb. its obvious thru all ur critcism (inaccurate, not a leader, chokes, gets hurt 2 much, smiles to much) u still in your hearts thought he was a great or at least good enough qb. its awful how u run the man out of town and now make statements like birds wont make playoffs. its actually comical. this town rather compromise winning just 2 feel good about their qb.well philly u got your hope you got your wish live with it, and please stop lowering expecatations on this team so if kolb makes the 6th seed in the playoffs u can commend him for how great he is. im not fooled

Because things were stale around here with 5, because it didn’t appear we would ever win a Superbowl with him, they went with another quarterback who they groomed. We don’t know whether Kolb is the guy or not, but I’m happy, it gives us something to watch, to hope for, excitement! And if Kolb sucks, we tried and lost. Is that worse than coming close but no superbowl with 5? Dare to struggle, dare to win!

@Mancini…u crack me up with the crap u write..OK Nostradamus..ur predictions are based off other “so called” predictions..anyways back to the Gov..if anyone ever watches this man on CSN..he is like 99% wrong on all sh!t that comes out of his mouth….And the Gov does not know his football he is a retard..And Philly will make the playoffs..and win the Division. So let me know who will play safety for Dallas when we play them , oh n by the way..not left tackle..there guna depend on Doug free..LOL it gets better…the redskins whole Offensive line is horrible…mcnabb. will at least miss a few games this year..and those game will be LOSES..screw shannahans ZONE blocking scheme..u have to be talented And smart enough to do it..and by the way again. .if shanahan is so good…explain y the bum didn’t get a playoff with in his last nine years. That’s right he can’t coach unless he has like 22 prowblers on offense. Philly ill with the east…we wont lose a beat…explain this cool stat..Garcia n feeley when they started more than 5 games went 5-1…our offense ran smoother and sustained drives..until mcpoop came back..and we didn’t get rolling until the 2nd half…so our team will be that much without 5…sorry mcnabb lovers..he was our sore thumb..don’t care if u like it its the truth…hez a good Guy..but not our Guy..

Thanks Silencer,
I do think the Super Bowl MVP Award for H Baskett was one of my better ones of late… ha ha
D Free played well for Cowboys at RT last year in place of RT Columbo who was hurt, they just picked up LT in trade with the Rams for LB C Carpenter so I think their OL is ok…
The Redksins OL will be much better than last season.. Will they be dominant or as good as some of those Bronco’s O/Line of years ago, absolutely not, but McNabb is pretty used to playing behind
average O/Lines for he had to for the Eagles during his early years as an Eagle..
The Eagles Season to me, comes down to the 5 NFC Divisional games they play versus the Packers,Bears,Vikings,49ers,& Falcons, They will need to go at least 3-2 in these 5 games and at least split their NFC East Rival games (3-3) to have a legitimate shot at the playoffs.
