Coming Soon The National Flag Football League

When looking at the NFL’s Top 100 of All Time list, it can spark many debates.  Some players were left off that should’ve been on there.  Others are ranked higher or lower than where they deserve.

I look at some of the top defensive players (Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Ronnie Lott, etc) and wonder: How effective would these guys be if they had to deal with these altering rules taking place this season?

The one active defensive player in the Top 20, Ray Lewis, has been very vocal in his displeasure of these ever changing rules.

It’s very understandable that a concussion is a very serious issue and the NFL has to do what it can to protect the players.  With the possibility of a lockout after this season, it’s imperative that the league present the most marketable image as possible.

Having said that, these penalties are getting ridiculous!  At the rate it’s going, the league could soon become the NFFL (National Flag Football League).

Just from watching one game (Eagles vs. Colts of course), there were three examples of how these absurd calls are ruining the game.

  1. Kurt Coleman’s personal foul on Austin Collie- First off, that was NOT helmet to helmet.  Coleman hit Collie’s shoulder pad first.  To add insult to injury, Collie caught the ball, meaning he fumbled the ball which was recovered by the Eagles!  I have yet to see a replay that could convince me otherwise.  I wish Collie a healthy recovery, but his injury was the result of a proper football play.
  2. Keenan Clayton running into Pat McAfee- Somebody please explain this one.  Clayton attempts to block the punt, but purposely maneuvers to NOT run into him.  McAfee’s punt causes him to leave the ground and land on top of Clayton, falling to the ground.  In the NBA, that’s known as flopping.
  3. Trent Cole’s blow to the head on Peyton Manning- If there’s one player the league is going to do everything possible to protect, it’s Manning.  Still, I hated this call.  Cole was clearly going after the ball, causing the fumble.

There were also a few ‘no-calls’ in the game, particularly a LeSean McCoy’s facemask being yanked during a tackle.

Despite fourteen penalties for 125 yards (six of which lead to first downs for the Colts) and a 2/5 Red Zone efficiency, the Eagles managed an impressive 26-24 victory over the AFC Champions.

These two teams will face each other again in 2014.  Let’s hope that green and blue flags won’t be required to whistle plays dead by then.

Yeah they are making the game weak. Seriously. Even many offensive players just want the league to let them play. We all know what happened to Desean but even said himself the league should just let them play. It won’t be long before they start penalizing players for hitting a someone when they could see them. Yall know what I’m talking about….. on special teams when the ball carrier reverses field and a defender changes direction to catch him only to be smacked by someone on the other team. That happens each and every game. Real soon they are going to start calling those players ‘defenseless defenders’ because they couldn’t prepare themselves for the hit. It’s getting a little ridiculous in the NFL. Making it hard to watch as closely (besides the eagles) as I did.

yea that Trent Cole call was a little ridic! The refs have no minds of their own on the field, they have to call the game the exact way the rules state. Six penalties lead to first downs…I wonder how many points the Colts scored after those penalties occured? anyone know? I dont feel like doing the research right now…

The score should have been 26-10 at worst! Its just sad to have the eagles dominate the whole game with no turnovers and senseless penalties keep the colts in the game! It was almost as if the NFL didn’t want the good guy to lose against the so call bad guy!!!

I agree, nobody wants to see a waterer down product. But the NFL cannot continue to have its stars wheeeled off horizontally on carts week after week. If you think there does not exist the possibility of a class action lawsuit against the NFL by former players with permanent disabilities and shortened life expectancies, you are dreaming. The league had not ever let a memo slip out that the had not done everything within their power to protect the players, or it is a slam dunk, over and done deal.

What I hate is that these calls are dictating games!!! Pretty soon people are going to act like they got a concussion on a play soon!!! Like NBA flopping or something. Replays will address this issue, and I hope that Goodell will make that possible!!!!

You would think after all that time Austin Collie was on the ground that the refs can review the hit and possibly over-turn the call!

Vick named NFC player of the week

Michael Vick will be named NFC offensive player of the week for his performance against the Colts when the awards are given out on Wednesday, the Eagles announced.

Vick previously won NFC offensive player of the month honors in September.

The quarterback, in his return from an injury-induced monthlong layoff, completed 17 of 29 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown as the Eagles bested Indianapolis, 26-24, on Sunday. He has yet to thrown an interception this season. Vick also ran 10 times for 74 yards and scored a touchdown.

The 5-3 Eagles face the 4-4 Redskins on Monday night next.

The League is just panicking about this because of how their product may look to the do-gooders!
Oh now they care!! Yeah right!
What about Andre Waters , Kevin Turner and all the other players in the past who sustained major head trauma and is/was just disgarded by the league.
What about this helmet issue? If they cared about the players they would break their contract with Riddel and go with Schutt
The NFL is about money …just like most corporations in this country.

This is about cleaning up the dirty play and bringing back the fundamentals. Its a shame these refs arent given a lil lee way with they calls. Its like the refs swallowing the whistles at the end of game 7 in the Eastern Conference finals. Let em play man. That play on Manning coulda cost us the game…4-4!!

And honestly..who is gonna stop watching the greatest sport in the world cause of this mess? Old ladies who cant stand the violence? Casual female fans? Who???? Answer me how the NFL will suffer from 2-3 guys on a stretcher(usually for pre-cautionary reasons) weekly.

It’s a tough sport…anyone on here who has played knew that when they first staring getting hit like a grown man.I saw guys quit because they couldnt deal with it. NFL players are millionares….repeat…MILLIONARES!!!Playing a game. Wear better equipment and shun those who dont play sound fundamental football. Fine em for dirty stuff…suspend them and everyone wll getthe message.
