Michael Vick’s Play Is Currently On A Level Of All-Time Greatness

Andy Reid has called Donovan McNabb the Eagles greatest quarterback, but that title is in danger because of the way Michael Vick is playing.

Before we get into the offensive display that Vick put on last night, we must acknowledge that the Eagles took their foot off the gas in the second half.  Yes, Vick might have stayed in the game well into the second half, which is another subject, but the Birds shut down their offense for the most part after half time.

This guy set an All-Time NFL game record of accomplishment in a little over a half of play.  It was one of the most awesome displays of football that I have ever seen.  It made me think of Randall Cunningham and Randy Moss going off on a Monday Night game in Moss’ rookie year against the Green Bay Packers.  I’m sure Andy Reid remembers it because he was standing on the other sideline.

If Vick was putting all of his skills on display for future opponents or for his upcoming free agency, he couldn’t have done any better.  It was a like a man playing against boys.  His arm, his speed, his accuracy were all a cut above.  He will be

If there’s a quarterback in the NFL who is playing better than Vick, I haven’t seen him.  McNabb looked like a scrub in comparison to Vick.  The two quarterbacks were like night and day during the important stretch in the first half when the game was decided.  McNabb threw a couple of touchdowns, but he also threw a couple of interceptions, while Vick was taking the Birds into the endzone with his arm or his legs time and time again.

I wrote an article earlier in the year comparing Vick and Hall of Famer Steve Young.   I talked to Vick after the first couple of game and I learned how intense he was working on his fundamentals.  He talked about how much better he was as a thrower now that he was bending his knees, setting his feet properly and throwing on balance.

He also talked about his understanding of the west coast offense and his understanding of defensive coverages.  He was devouring the teaching he was getting from the Birds coaching staff.  I could see that he was blossoming and was a constantly improving work in progress.

A number of people were up and arms about the comparison with Young but I could see that Vick had improved fundamentals so drastically that his play was moving up on a level of the great quarterbacks.  He has continued to improve and still believes he can play better which is frightening to the rest of the NFL.

The lefthander will need to continue this amazing play in order to earn a place up there with the greats of the game, but he should be able to do it, if he can stay healthy.  By the way, I liked the way he ran out of bounds numerous times to avoid taking hits.

There’s a confidence which Vick exudes that has mesmerized his teammates. Reid couldn’t have let Kevin Kolb hang onto the starting job without losing most of the team’s confidence.

I’ve had Vick’s teammates come up to me and tell me they think they can win it all with this guy.  Vick took control of this team when he displayed that confidence and playmaking ability after he entered the first game of the season versus Green Bay.

During the game last night, Vick became the first player in NFL history to throw for over 300 yards, while throwing four touchdown passes, running for over 50 yards and rushing for two touchdowns, all in the same football game.  It wasn’t just the yardage he piled up, it was also the manner in which he did it.

He threw for 333 yards on the night, while completing 20 of 28 throws without an interception.   He hasn’t thrown an interception yet this season. His passer rating for the game was 150.7.  On top of that he ran for 80 yards on only 8 carries.

Although it hasn’t been announced, I’m naming him the NFC Offensive Player of the Week before the NFL talks about it.  So that will be NFC Offensive Player of Month for his first three games, then he was NFC Offensive Player Of The Week against the Colts, now he tops that by winning the award again this week.

This is what you call breaking news before it happens.  There’s no way they could give the award to anybody else.

Hard to argue. Really seems to have bonded with this coaching staff. Goes through his progressions, clearly is pass first at this point, ran out of bounds rather than getting clobbered, and faked a few people out of their jocks. In typical Philly fashion, let’s see if he can get the Birds to the next level before embracing him. And by the way, better sign the man now

Before embracing him? Come on man…get off the fence. He has taken the Birds too the next level…the o is better then last years. Reminds me of the Saints O last year. …when they want a 1st down they take it…when they need a big throw…7 makes it.

And he gets inked after we kick the d-shit out of the Giants….possibly this week.

My head is spinning. Vick’s transformation is incredibly stark, like that of night and day. Is this the same person who was at the controls of the Atlanta offense? It’s certainly not the same QB.

The QB in Atlanta played pro football as if it were sandlot. This QB is calculating and makes each play design seem flawless.

The QB who played in Atlanta counted to “One Mississippi,” then amazed everyone with his incredible speed. This QB counts to “Eleven Mississippi,” then throws a TD.

The QB in Atlanta had only one play in his arsenal. This QB knows the 107 plays scribbled on his sleeve like the back of his hand.

The QB in Atlanta was a great athlete, period. This QB is both cerebral and athletic, daring you to chose your poison.

The QB in Atlanta was selfish and concerned with his numbers. This QB is team-oriented and only cares about winning.

The QB in Atlanta could never have won a Superbowl. This QB could actually be favored to win it all.

Like I said, night and day.

and whoever said that Coaching doesn’t matter, that it’s players who make plays that count…
When you put the 2 together.. It’s a pretty incredible weapon with almost no limits..
I think I heard 30 other Defensive Coordiantors in the NFL yelp last night at around 9pm…

I TOLD YOU ALL! I FUCKIN TOLD YOU! Michael Vick is the best Quarterback in the NFL! Prove me wrong. Manning, Brady, Roethlisberger, Brees, them guys throw from the pocket…Thats ALL they can do! Mike can throw fro, the pocket even better AND run the ball….Which means he can do more! Which means he is better! All these suckas are on his bandwagon and I love it! LOL. I’ve been a fan of Mike since his Junior year at Warrick High School in Newport News, VA and I already knew he was capable of doing this. Now I sit here and laugh at all of the dumb motherfuckers who thought Kolb should start LOL

Mike Vick baby!

man me and my son were in the building lastnight. It was electric, and I’ve never heckled so many drunk fools in my life. They just like Dallas fans want to talk about their Superbowls…living in the past. One play last night, the Skins doubled Desean off the line of scrimmage, and put someone over top of him, it was unreal. I’m a huge McNabb fan…but at no point in his Eagles career was he ever on fire like this. I still get a little antsy when Vick doesn’t get down, but we will just have to live with that. Stupid fans want to bring up the dog stuff…get over it… I’m a Dog lover too, I believe in second chances. Go Vick, not onto the Giants…

Mike Vick has played outstanding football all season. Last night he looked like the best qb -actually player- in the league. Just outstanding!

All I can say is WOW. I must have been playing Madden 2011. On another note, Hey Dizzy, how about we tone down the language. Can we keep it clean

VICK IS UNREAL. If gets any better this season than he already has been. They may just DANCE ON THE STAR.

i am not gonna lie, but we need to chill the FUCK out on Vick. yes he had a great game, but he has to keep it up …

also, calling mcnabb a scrub compared to vick is like calling gcobb a broke down version of stuart scott … stuart scott works for ESPN (a legit site) and gcobb has a broke down site with tons of viruses!

vick plays on the most explosive O in football and mcnabbs O is worse than any team he had here in philly!

rcp….you still think Kolb is the future of the Eagles?

believe that I don’t think Kolb’s family thinks that.

When you hear the head coach say “Kolb haves a bright future in this league.” That’s a segway for a trade. I wish Kolb all the best and he may have a ring compliments of Vick on his way to a bright future with another team.

Philly belongs to Michael Vick

@Dr Bridge

are you forgetting what makes the Eagles offense even more potent/explosive? Its Michael Vick! of course he has to keep it, but honestly Vick has earned a mistake or two…The O is not as explosive without him, its that simple…First play of the game is the prime example…He threw the ball 65 yards in the air, to DJAX…Absolutely Ridiculously explosive!

@ real

I agree 100%, this offense is great. The main thing that I was saying is that Vick has got to keep this up before we start calling him “The ALL -TIME GREATEST” like Gcobb was trying to say. I want to see more … last night was ridiculous. The eagles came out firing on all cylinders (except returns and Calvin is not the answer but that’s a different discussion) and were completely unstoppable!

When G says that Vick made McNabb look like a scrub, that’s where he needs to take a look at both offenses and in his mirror! Our offense, like stated above ^^^^^^^^^^^^, is unstoppable. Redskins offense is awful. GOD AWFUL! Who was their running back last night (an undrafted rookie) and was their starting 27 yr old rookie receiver out of the arena league??? That sucks.
We had a probowl WR and a 1st round draft pick receiver starting, also a 2nd round draft pick on his way to a possible probowl. I guess what I am trying to say is that if you switched the tables with McNabb and Vick last night, Vick would have looked just as awful, if not worse …

Agree Paul… Big Red certainly has hit the mark with Vick. I’m optimistic that he has transformed into superman. And with his financial motivation and issues, he should be focused on playing for Red in this system. Good things should keep comin’ Sign him.

Espn anallist Hasselback did not even have Vick in the top 5 QBs this year.

P Manning, P Rivers, T Brady, M Ryan, A Rogers

What an insult.
