Eagles Deny ESPN Report That They’re Talking To Ravens Linebacker Coach

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles had asked for permission to talk to Baltimore Ravens linebacker coach Dean Pees. According to Philly.com the Eagles have denied the report which means Schefter must have missed this one or someone isn’t telling the truth.

Pees is a 3/4 defense guy.  He was assistant coach for Bill Belichick in New England from 2004 to 2005.  For your information, New England is another 3/4 team.  He knows the 3-4 inside and out, but he can’t say the same thing about the 4-3.

If the Birds had really asked for permission to talk to Pees it would be major news since the team’s defense has been a 4-3 during the 12 years that Andy Reid has been the head coach.  A change to 3-4 would mean a major change in Reid’s thinking and the team’s personnel.

It’s not going to happen.  It would be a foolish move because the team’s defensive players will only be able to workout at the Nova Care Complex up until March 4th.  There’s no telling how many OTA’s and mini-camps will take place this off season.  There’s no way the Eagles have time to change from a 4-3 to a 3-4 during this particular off season with a work stoppage on the way.

Hallelujah! This team says they wanna win Superbowls and compete. I’ll believe that when we actually pick up a big time DC and actually try to do something with this young defense. Only a few pieces left t’ll greatness. Rebuild that Oline by drafting my cousin MIKE POUNCEY. Sign Haynesworth, and Nhamdi and BOOM. There would’nt be one team in the NFC that could go toe to toe with us. Kurt Coleman and Nate Allen are the future at the Safety positons on this team. This team is stacked, and I”m sick of losing to teams that we can clearly beat. We could have easily beat GreenBay last week. Too many mistakes. It’s gonna be a great Offseason. I can feel it

I agree. I’m not against the 3-4 but I think the issue is players not the 4-3. Teams year in and out win the championship with the 4-3 defense. It’s more important you get talent and good coaching and you will be successful.

vricchini, what else is new with this team? The last couple seasons have been filled with plenty of drama. We’ll go through all this for this offseason and then come back here this time next year and complain about the same problems.

Ravens Run a hybrid defense. 4-3 on run downs and 3-4 on pass. We have the personnel to create a hybrid defense similar to this.

Tberry you’re right. They been running a hybrid for a long time. But we don’t even have the personnel to run a 4-3 properly so I think it’s far fetched with this personnel to be able to switch back and fourth. I love the idea but talent needs to be upgraded for that. I’m sorry we don’t have any one near Ray Lewis, Ngata and Terrell Suggs to be playmakers all the time.

I heard Tony Dungy and even Mike Ditka are coming into Philadlephia to interview for the DC’s position..
Word on the street, is that these Coaches just love the shrimp cocktail at “BookBinders”

This stuff is absurd. New names every day. AR isn’t going to hire a DC. He’s gonna run the D. HIs version of a defense. It’ll be his version called the West Coast D, you know a Time Out at inapropriate times, failure to stop the run by completely ingnoring it and playing 9 db’s. And he will be looking for the ‘homerun’ and throwing ‘fastballs at ’em’ with a couple linemen.

They need to get this done and bring in someone will make a HUGE difference.

One last ridiculous rumor I heard..
The Eagles will hire 8 different D/C’s and each will coach 2 games a piece in the 2011 Season,
they Coach AR will narrow it down and keep 4 of them, allowing them to Coach for 4 games each in
2012 Season which going into the final year of his contract will then select a #1 DC for the 2013 Season

the 3-4 scheme is a good fit for the Eagles current roster… Chaney and Bradley inside with Graham and Cole to outside linebacker…Dixon at NT…draft Heyward from Ohio State in round #1 to play DE

Yeah man he’s family. I know they don’t mean much, but I’ve seen a couple mock drafts that have the Birdz taking Pouncey with their pick. Lets hope. We Shoulda got Marquise last season.

Mark my words. Allen and Coleman are gonna be the future and be stars. For the linebackers I see Bradley, Chaney, and Fokou starting the season. You don’t like that line up? Chaney and Fokou are both young and showed promise this season. Bradley will be a solid player as usual.

Personally…. I love allen at FS, gunna be there for years. As far as coleman goes… We will see. We for sure need to add a starting CB and a SS. At LB… I’d like to add at least 1 starter. Bradley has to earn a spot… I’m tired of being told how amazing he is when he’s on the nench or IR.

Our small undersized DE’s/LB’s actually fit the 3-4. Maybe Andy knew he was going to switch to the 3-4 if the defense wasn’t succesful this past year and so he drafted accordingly last year. Teo’Neisham, Clayton, Sapp — all men that fit the 3-4 more than the 4-3.

Birdo, so he sacrificed a bad defensive year since he knew he didn’t have the right personnel? Seriously? Man, you really take that koolaid to the head. If they switch to a 3-4 it won’t be because Reid has a master plan last year. It will be because he realized he made mistakes for the defense this team HAS ALWAYS RAN and now probably realizes that instead of trying to convert all the players to fit the system, maybe the system needs changing. If only he would do that with the offense.

First off, there was nothing wrong with the system when JJ was here. Remember, Andy never meddled with the defense when JJ was here. He started spending his time on the defensive side of the field last year and even more this year.

I wouldn’t say he “sacrificed” this year — I would say this year was a “trial” run for McDermott, since it was reported that as far back as the 2009 season, McDermott was on the hot seat.

A change to the 3-4 isn’t so far fetched if you think about it — then again, who knows.

Birdo…. The last few years under JJ were nothing special. Thw d was small then too. Go look up how many int’s and sacks they had in the playoffs under JJ.

As far as the plan…. I am with G in thinking that andys plan on D is over and now its the other 2 that are forming a plan. They plan is…. Get some friggin coaches that know what they are doing and let them form the plan.

No fears boys, we had fun this year don’t lie to me. We are going to have even more fun next season (Yea there is going to be one), improved nasty defense, log jamming offensive line, and more McCoy than we can stand. Time to throw the ball and connect, this team will be feared if we do things the right way.

Yep bring in Haysworth. Beg, borrow or steal to get As#$@#$ (From Raiders) in here opposite Asante. Let new coaches properly coach up Patterson, Coleman, lindley, Allen, more to give us a back field that would rival the Jets to be one of the most imposing back fields in a long time a backfield that could run 6 quailty men deep. Let new coach transition our D-line to mirror or even rival the giants. Beteen these two nasty, dirty peices of bread our LBS will taste oh so good. And win the SB next season.

Thats my dream fellas and I am not changing it for anyone or thing!!!!!

As always LONG LIVE THE EAGLES

FIRE ANDY REID!!!!!! if he learned west coast offense from Bill Walsh, he did not soak it all in. With best qb and wr in the game Bill Walsh still ran Roger Craig 22 times a game and Rathman 7 total of 29 times during season and Sb. Montana was 22-24 in one SB. Think about that. he ran (29times) more than he threw lol with Joe montana…if that was Andy Reid he would have had joe throw 50 times like mcnabb in SB loss and only ran Westbrook who was ave 5.1 a carry 15 times(craig and rathman ave alot less) granted only joe still would have made 50 attempts probally look pretty good but the awesome coach BILL walsh knew better and gave his team a chance to win

4-3 or 3-4 most important is having 1 or 2 LB with 10 sacks or more. THINK OF all the Sb in last 10 years . Vrabel,Romanowski,Mcginest,Harrison, Woodley, the other 2 steelers OLB i can’t think of are something Eagles never had but what SB champion do Lb’s that rush the QB
