Roseman At Senior Bowl And Reid In Philly, Leading Search For Defensive Coordinator

Philly.com has just reported that GM Howie Roseman is headed to Mobile, Alabama for the Senior Bowl, but the GM said that head coach and VP of Football Operations, Andy Reid, will stay behind and focus on filling the team’s defensive coordinator’s position.

Roseman, along with members of the Eagles coaching staff and player personnel department will be in Mobile this week for the 2011 Senior Bowl.  They’ll be checking out many of the top prospects for this year’s NFL draft which means getting the chance to see the players practice and setting down with them and asking them questions in the evening.

They are also in Mobile looking at and talking to coaching prospects while at the Senior Bowl.  During the practices the league’s coaches totally surround the field.  Many an NFL coaching opening has been filled on the sidelines of the Senior Bowl.  If you want an NFL coaching position or if you want to fill an NFL coaching position you got to Mobile, Alabama for the Senior Bowl.

Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles are one of the teams looking for to fill a coaching position this year.    Normally teams hire the coordinators immediately after the season, then fill out their staffs at the Senior Bowl.   The Birds are heading to Mobile without a coordinator, so they’ll likely be leaning on their contacts around the league, to get input on who might be a good choice.

Green Bay’s defensive line coach Mike Trgovac, whose name continued to be mentioned, won’t in attendance because the Packers will be getting ready for the Super Bowl.  Trgovac has publicly stated that he’s not sure whether he would accept a job offer now or not.  I’m sure with the right monetary offer, he’ll be on a plane back here immediately.

Long-shot candidate Green Bay Assistant Head Coach and Linebacker Coach Winston Moss will be unavailable for interview as well.

According to Philly.com, the Birds interviewed Saints defensive backfield coach Dennis Allen on Sunday.

Philly.com asked Pittsburgh legendary defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau whether he would be interested in the Eagles open coaching job and as expected he said he wouldn’t be interested.  “If I’m in the state of Pennsylvania, I’m going to be in Pittsburgh,” LeBeau said after yesterday’s AFC Championship game.

Who knows how long it will be before the Birds fill this position.  It makes you wonder if the Eagles made this decision and had a clear plan about what they were going to do to fill the spot.

as i stated before.. the eagles will go another 2 weeks without naming a DC because they are pretty sure that they will be naming a coach who is still coaching, so that would either be a steelers or packers coach… with all signs pointing towards trgovac. Of course hes ganna say he aint ganna accept no job bc he dont want his players giving up on him.. Or may dick labeau that would be great.. the jj of the 3-4 why not

LeBeau, if he goes anywhere, will be heading to the desert to Coach the Arizona Cardinals and rejoin his coaching and personal buddies Coach’s Ken Wisenhut and Russ Grimm ..
He may just end of retiring.. but word on the street is that he’s going out west to Arizona and will
coach 2-3 years and groom his replacemnt and then retire there,,,

Listen, im tired of non-football nerds deciding the fate of our beloved football team!…How do you move up in the draft, and NOT select Earl Thomas which was a position of need??? Then draft another T-Rex arm undersized D-Lineman??? Its because your G.M is drafting like its Madden 11….and he thinks he’s smarter than the rest of the football world. How many times in this tenure of Reid have they moved up in the draft and your like..”OHHHH MAN!, they made the move, their going to take (insert KNOWN beast here)”, and then end up taking McDougle, Graham, Bunkley, etc.? Im sick of it! Last year they could have just selected Pouncy, we need a Center, he was there. I predict through Paulmans sources (hustle man, at 55th and Market under the EL selling white t-shirts)…that the Eagles will trade back to stock pile 3 third rounders and a 4th in next years draft and claim like they did the Kolb draft..that they are loaded and can afford to trade down…lmao!!…these guys are a special type of Idiot!

What a comfort to know Howie Roseman is at the senior bowl assessing talent. That genius who
brought Ennie Simms to our linebacking corps.

I don’t like Roseman out at senior bowl without Marty, Castillo, Washburn and backs coach with him. Perhaps they’re out there, but last I heard reported on Eagles.com Washburn wasn’t seen. What’s up with that??!! We need the eyes of coaches who can evaluate, & working with players.

Andy Reid didn’t go to the Senior Bowl last year either. Reid just doesn’t go, it has nothing to do with finding a coach. This is just another case of Garry Cobb portraying every non-event as further evidence that Andy Reid is loosing his power. Jeez, it it a break.

BigE and boys, where was all your criticism and loathing for “Big Tom Heckert”? Roseman has been in charge for two years, Heckert was in charge forever and who did he serve up? Is it Roseman’s appearance?

I agree with a lot of the posters here,I have said a 1,000 times when this team made a glorified bean counter their top player personnel guy the only chance the city of Philly had for parades were the fightin’ Phils.I can guarantee this football team will be ruled by profits as long as it is the Jeff and Joe Show” and all we can ever hope to do is make the playoffs and fill the Linc with paying fans, like my self for the past 26 years….

I like when Andy, in talking about the Eagels philosophy on drafting and bringing in FA pass rushers talks about “throwing fasballs” at the offense. Problem is none of these supposed “fastballs” can get to the quarterback. They need a total change in defensive philosphy. RUN THE 3-4!!!

FanSince1960 I don’t remember Heckert being in the forefront and lauding his own work. Maybe Reid had more input then but the same results over Reid’s tenure a sorry bunch of draft choices at D-line, O-line, linebacker, defensive back and return men.

To use a baseball comparisonl
These “Fastball’s” in September start out like Ryan Madson’s only to end up like Jaime Moyer’s by
seasons end when Cole.Parker,Graham,Tapp,Sapp and all these other smallish 260 lbs and lighter
players get worn out going against 315-330 lb Offensive Tackles off the NFL all season long…

excellent point Pman…..these quick small guys wear down easy by the the end of the season (read: PLAYOFF’S)…hopefully Washburn will have a plan and have the support of the FO to make changes in personel and scheme to keep this trend from continuing

I agree, BigE. It’s been the same stuff for 12 years. But when a Jewish guy is brought in two years ago, suddenly a “beancounter” is responsible for the team’s ills. Antisemitism underlies that statement. What was Hechert, a misunderstood and exploited personnel genius?
