Whisenhunt Downplays Fitzgerald’s Advice About Acquiring Kevin Kolb

We (meaning Eagles fans) weren’t the only people paying attention to the news that Arizona Pro Bowl wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald told the Cardinals that he would like to see them acquire Eagles backup quarterback Kevin Kolb.

I thought it would help increase Kolb’s value on the market and Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt would probably agree with me on that.

That is why he is trying to play down the importance of Fitzgerald making that request.

First of all, we need to make the point that he’s acknowledging Fitzgerald’s request which is normally not the case.  There’s another reason Fitzgerald’s words can’t be taken for granted. The star wide receiver’s contract will be up after the next NFL season and you know that has to be on Whisnehunt’s mind, since the head coach isn’t on the best of footing with his front office or Arizona fans.

“You’re very aware that we have an open-door policy,” Whisenhunt told The Arizona Republic. “We solicit input from players on a lot of things, game plans, plays, travel to the East Coast. Things in training camp. When I was interviewed (in 2007), they had players who were a portion of the interviews.

“Larry and I talked about a number of things. I’ve talked to other players as well.”

I think it would have been nice for Whisenhunt to say, “yes we would like to acquire Kevin Kolb, but I don’t want the Eagles to think we’re going to be willing to give the kitchen sink for the quarterback”.

their DC also (which is still open)

I See nothing wrong with coaches getting imput from players, As a matter of fact i think its a good thing, Look what happen the one time Mcnabb opened his mouth and said he needs help at reciever, They go and get T.O. and we go to the super bowl ( lets not get into what happen later) point is, sometimes the coaches and front office need the players input

According to ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas, the Eagles have just $80.8 million committed to the salary cap in 2011. That’s the 5th lowest of any team in the NFL, and $20.7 million less than the league average of $101.5 million. Here are the totals for each team:

1 Dallas 136.6 12 New Orleans 105.2 23 Cincinnati 90.7
2 Green Bay 129.8 13 Chicago 104.9 24 Oakland 85.8
3 NYJ 128.5 14 Tennessee 104.4 25 San Diego 85.8
4 NYG 126.3 15 Miami 103.1 26 Arizona 83
5 Denver 125 16 St Louis 102.4 27 Seattle 81.1
6 Houston 118.4 17 New England 102.3 28 Philadelphia 80.8
7 Pittsburgh 116 18 Atlanta 102.1 29 Jacksonville 78.1
8 Indianapolis115.5 19 Baltimore 101.3 30 Kansas City 74.7
9 Washington 115.2 20 San Francisco 100.9 31 Carolina 73
10 Detroit 113.8 21 Cleveland 99.2 32 Tampa Bay 59.7
11 Minnesota 108.4 22 Buffalo 96.4

Trade Vick. Kolb reminds me of the dude that just won the MVP of the Superbowl. While we’re at it, trade Desean too. His ego is becoming like T.O.’s besides Maclin is better anyways. “yea runtheball but desean opens it up for maclin…blah blah” I don’t care, I know how this story ends. It ends with a guy thinking he’s bigger than the team, and needs more money and speaks out and divides the locker room. What he said after the Greenbay game was out of line.

runtheball….meet choir.

BTW, what are you referring to as being said after the GB game?

Hes referring to the negative comments on Vicks decision to not spike the ball which in turn ended up as a INT to end the game.

AZ would be an ideal trade partner in my opinion. I could see us giving up Kolb, Bunk, our #23 for #5 and #38.

With #5 draft best DL available (Quinn/Bowers), then #38 Benjamin Ijalana OT/G Villanova, assuming they make a run at a CB in FA.

I mean hell we need an impact CB and the fact that our payroll is 80m and the NYG is 126m and the Cowboys is 136m says something. The two biggest competitors are out there spending money, we need to not just spend on anything though, but spend wisely.

Need DT, LB put pressure on QB then CB….No great Dt & no great LB on this team, we need to pressure QB,stop run, tackle then CB

Run- what about kolb reminds you of rodgers? His skin? Lol that’s the only thin that is the same.

Seriously people… What have you friggin seen from him? I was a kolb supporter… I was rooting for him from the day after easter (on easter I was pissed that they let 5 go). But it is clear kolb is ave at best.

Ummm coming out and saying, “We want to acquire Kolb” would be blatant tampering. So no, that would never happen.

For the record… I don’t hate kolb. But he’s the 2nd best (maybe) qb on our team. He’s not the guy, won’t be the guy and its time to try and get something for him. Move him.

I think Bunkley stays with the Eagles and can actually flourish under new Dl Coach Washburn… The one DT I would trade is Patterson
I could see the Eagles trading PAtterson to the PAnthers who need DT help
and Patterson could rejoin MCDermott and bring some familiarity and experience to a young Panther DL.. The Panthers 4th Rd Pick is #97 Overall and I would take it in a heartbeat if I were the Eagles
