The Top Five Guards In The NFL Draft

Florida’s MIke Pouncey is clearly the class of this draft at the guard position. He’s got the combination of size, strength and quick feet to be a dominant player. The Eagles would thrilled to grab him in the first round.

Rodney Hudson is a very good athlete who can do everything needed at the guard position. He’s got good speed, so he’ll be effective when pulling on running plays and getting out in front of screens.

I really liked what I saw of James Carpenter at the Senior Bowl. They had him playing tackle and I thought he was very impressive. He’s got great size and outstanding athletic ability. I think he could help the Birds because of his versatility. Carpenter is a guy we should keep our eyes on.

Good stuff G,
I am curious who the following 2nd Tier Guards look and should be on the Board in the 3rd/4th Rounds

#1) Orlando Franklin from Miami
#2) Steve Schilling from MIchigan
#3) John Moffitt from Wisconsin
#4) Clint Boling from Georgia
#5) Will Rackley from Lehigh
#6) Tim Barnes from Missouri

Let us know if any of these players have potential at the NFL level or are a agood fit for the Eagles schemes

I would not mind Cannon in round #3. This guy is a beast and can move for a 350 pounder… watch some film on him – very impressive.

To Nev856
Definitely would be a tough choice,
I would think most NFL Scouts/Coaches probably value the CB position higher and more difficult to fill than an interior OL..
All else being equal, I would Select CB J Smith, and the other reason is that this is a pretty deep Draft across the OL position (more so than CB) and I think you can still get a good Guard in the 3rd/4th Round when the drop off at CB is pretty big
To Jott1972, Cannon is impressive though I am always concerned when a young player appears to be a little too heavey for as they get older, it’s more difficult for them to keep it off. HE would really help himself long term if he can lose 20-25 lbs..

probably neither will be there , but both positions would help us. one would help vick. the other would help our d line.
