Reid To Teams Interested In Kolb: He’ll Help You Win A Championship

It must be getting thick down there in New Orleans. Now Eagles head coach Andy Reid is telling coaches, GM’s and player personnel people that Kevin Kolb will help them win a championship. I guess you can tell them that in private but to start talking about it openly means the Eagles have decided to go on an all out selling of Kolb.

How many times have you heard a team tell other teams publicly that a quarterback who they’re getting ready to trade is going to help them win a championship?

I know some of the NFL people have to wonder if Reid were so sure of that, why is he trading Kolb rather than promoting him to the starting quarterback position.

Reid talked to reporters this morning and he must been on top of his game because he obviously had a lot to say, but promising championships is the most I’ve heard. According to Philly.com Reid said he had told this to Mike Holmgren when he was in Seattle and considering trading for then Green Bay backup Matt Hasselbeck. Reid says he feels the same way about Kevin Kolb.

“Whatever you have to pay for him, pay for him, go get him, and he’ll help you win a championship.” Reid added: “That’s how I feel about this guy. That’s why I’ve got him. I didn’t bring him in to be a backup, I brought him in to be a starter, and crazy things happened, with this Michael Vick thing, that nobody thought would happen … That kid is a championship-caliber quarterback.”

I’ve got to give it to Andy, he’s good. He should open a used car lot when he decides to retire from coaching. Like some used car salesman, Reid makes you feel like he’s doing you a favor by taking a number one pick for Kolb.

If Reid is so sure about Kolb leading a team to a championship, how could he be trading him. If Reid was so sure about Kolb leading a team to a championship, why did he bench him last year.

Folks- the birds are going all in. Think about it…. Andy Reid is saying things he knows are not true. This is seriously a strong hint that the birds are going to be aggresive this off season. Think about what they have done so far…

1)Fired the DC- have they ever flat out fired someone under andy?
2)Brought in 2 of the best line coaches in the league. (not best acourding to the eagles…. best accourding to the NFL).
3)Franchised Vick- Eagles never really tell you how they feel about a player. Think about when Trot was franchised…. and so on. The birds have admitted that they are IN LOVE WITH MIKE VICK. no comments of… well, we may go Kolb, may go vick.
4) and now….. they are selling their golden child. the “chosen one” they are doing it without any pride…. think about what they are saying. Its sell sell sell.

They will…. break the bank if a CBA is ever done. Expect big name players to join this team. Expect them to go all in. a new starting CB, RT, LB and backup QB will be on the field come sept. Mark my words…. its a done deal.

G- for fun… could you re post my Off Season blog you posted just before McD got fired…. i think we are right on target for what i was saying.

teams aren’t questioning why the Eagles would be open to trading Kolb, even with AR saying he’ll help you win a championship..Teams know why the Eagles are open to trading Kolb and thats Vick, now if Kolb was the backup to a Brady Quinn, then of course noone would believe them…Dont think AR was talking Super Bowl, lol .A division championship isn’t a stretch, especially if he joins the Seahawks…

Damn GCOBB…what do you want Reid to say.

“I think he will be average..but we want a first round pick and more..Ok now who wants him?”

Anybody with a brain can follow that you have an obvious dislike for Kolb, for whatever reason. That’s completely fine. I just wonder what you expected Kolb to do in his what 6 career starts? Did you want him to win NFC Offensive player of the week 6 out of 6? I wonder how many players have won 2 out of their first 6 starts in NFL history other than him?just saying..

The fact is who cares what Kolb does on his next team..If we get a 1st round pick and maybe something more for him I could care less what Kolb does. As far as I know, once he is not an Eagle I hope he throws 100 picks and looses every game as a starter especially if he is in the NFC. I wish the same for every other QB in the league that doesn’t wear an Eagles uniform.

To Stevo,
We all love your enthusiasm about the Eagles being “all-in”..and their is no doubt that the Eagles strengthen their team with hiring some Prfessional Position Coaches which has been long overdue and neglected along the line of scrimmage
Now let’s see what they do come Draft and Free-agency period (if and when there is one) But by looking at this off-season transactions, bringing in 4/5th WR S Moss, Canadien DE P Hunt, 3rd/4th String TE J Nalbone.. I will hold off my judgment to think the Eagles are All-In at this point..

Braggadocious is Andy’s middle name…. I can’t even count how many times he was like that with McNabb..Season after season after season of short comings and NFC Championship game dissapointments, Andy would always support/back McNabb about how he is a top NFL QB or Super Bowl winning Qb or HOF QB when the media/fans would bring up his inaccuracy, time-management, dirt balls etc. Andy is the same with Vick right now. He is the same with most of his players..you just wrote in a post on how he was bragging about King Dunlap as a RT and the remarkable improvements he made to his game. Kolb is just the one he is selling right now.

I’m with Real…. Andy was talking about Division Championships. Ship him to the NFC West and that’s not a hard task and then Andy can say “see, I told you so”.

Well Andy, we aren’t looking for a player that can win other teams a championship, how about bringing in some guys to play for the EAGLES to bring us one?

Anyhow, G this is just Andy trying to sell Kolb. And the easy answer on why if he’s that good, why are you trading him is that Vick is just that much better. So the conclusion is that even though Vick is better that doesn’t mean Kolb can’t win in this league.

‘oh, my site? It’s one of the best in Philly about sports. You should advertise with us, we get some of the highest traffic in the region for sports related material. Top notch.’ – Garry Cobb to a potential advertiser on this site – hypothetical -sure, but equal in significance to Andy’s comments on Kolb.

Let’s talk about other equally significant and important ‘news’ – the US government has a budget issue. French fries taste good. More money is better than less money. Sex is gratifying. Jump and you’ll come back to the ground.

Catch the theme – it’s all obvious stuff – same as ‘andy reid will talk positively of his players, especially ones to be traded’.

Hard to believe Gary or anyone else actually thinks this is worthy of conversation.

Paulman- thanks for “reporting” about my enthusiasm. Your “source” about what I said was spot on. All I’m saying is that the birds are doing things differently and I think there is strong enough evidence to suggest that they are going to bring in talent. Mark my words… 3 or 4 new starters… 2 with names we will know.

All this stuff about sending him to the afc or nfc west or wherever… I don’t care where he goes. Send him to washington with one of our playbooks…. Does not matter…. Just get the best 1st for him. End of story.

For the record- its not that I hate him… Its that he is not our starter and does not want to be the backup. There is NO situation for him to stay.

No shiller- he’s saying that andy is trying to sell kolb for more than he’s worth- I agree… BUT….

The issue is that you can only drive 1. Can’t have both on the field. But regardless…. Kolb is not worth driving .

No. I am saying how can a team expect the eagles to keep kolb and sell vick? vick is ferrari. I think kolb is good player. i know this much, his stock is higher than players like vince young, mcnabb, carson palmer and for one reason only. You don’t know what it is that he has. He could very well be the next aaron rodgers. I think we’ve seen enough to make a case for that, I think we have also seen little enough to make a case for all the haters.

G:

Again a first rounder and a third rounder or equivalent for Kolb. If not the Eagles should hang onto him and let him do what Reid says he can do. Imagine if Vick did go down for an extended period. Think Reid would hear an echo of his words? And I think Kolb can be a top notch QB. His throws are stronger and more accurate than McNabb’s. But he’s got to be tougher in the pocket. Fear is not an option back there.
