Apparently the Philadelphia Phillies aren’t the only team in the state of Pennsylvania to be struck by the devastating curse known as the injury bug.
The Penn State football team, who currently is involved in spring practices, has suffered two key losses early on in the offseason.
Sophomore wide receiver Curtis Drake, a projected starting wide receiver for the upcoming season, went down with a fractured left tibia. He is expected to miss the entire spring and his timetable for return is up in the air.
Unfortunately, Drake suffered the same injury just seven months ago. If he is unable to remain healthy, Drake’s football career will all but surely come to an end.
But Drake wasn’t the biggest injury to strike this team after starting defensive end Pete Massaro, a red-shirt junior, injured his left knee on Friday. The injury is considered to be serious.
The news is even more disappointing because Massaro missed the entire 2009 season after tearing the ACL in his opposite knee. Suffering two injuries to opposite knees is never a good scenario for any player, especially for a defensive end, who needs his knees to be 100% in order to get any type of push or explosion off of the line.
Massaro played well in 2010, compiling 37 tackles (eight for losses) and 3.5 sacks in 11 games started.
Penn State is having to endure a difficult offseason between multiple injuries, the quarterback carousel, and the open competition at running back.
Hopefully Joe Paterno and the rest of the Penn State coaching staff can maneuver their way through these obstacles and lead the Nittany Lions in the right direction heading into the regular season.
Joe Paterno is the Bug that is costing Penn State back to elite status in College Football.. They have simply become a mediocre program over the last
10 years or so.. PAterno is a living legen, an Icon and a great ambassador for
Penn State and College Football, but his time as a Coach has come, he should retire.. When was the last time Penn State beat a Top #10 Program in a game that mattered.. the biggest error came in joining the Big 10 which Penn State has no business beign in, they should have stayed in the BIg East and help make it a better conference, keep Boston COllege in it and now you would have a better Big East, close to recruits and to family members and alumni to go see some games instead of playing schools from
Wisconson,Minnesota,Iowa and now Nebraska.. it’s crazy and hurts their recruiting off the East Coast where family members would have a difficult time going to away games..
