Should Phillies Fan Be Climbing On The Phils In Game One?

This afternoon I was listening to 610-WIP as a ran some errands. Anthony “Cuz” Gargano and Rob Charry were on the air. , who was sitting in for Glen Macnow, who was called in for jury duty, had an interesting discussion today about a Phillies fans who was sitting near the home team’s dugout and heckling the Phils in game one last Friday at Citizen’s Bank Park.

From what I have learned he was all over them to the point where Jimmy Rollins said something about him after the game.

“It was kind of comical,” Rollins said. “One guy was saying something about American Legion ball and how his team would have done better than that.”

He went on with a chuckle.

“I don’t know,” he said. “Maybe it inspired us. The next inning we came out and made only one out and found a way to win.”

Cuz had a problem with the guy because he was all over the team in the opening game. He felt the intensity of the fan climbing all over the Phils hitters would have been more appropriate at a football game.

A listener called to say that he resented Philadelphia fans like that heckler because they’re the kind of fan, who have allowed the national media to stereotype sports fans around here as being over the top. I agreed with the gentleman wholeheartedly.

Charry thought the fan climbing on the guys in the first game was comical and entertaining.

I sided with Cuz. I think there’s definitely a time and place for climbing on players. It bothers me when a player makes the same mistake over and over again. I don’t like guys who go through the motions.

At the same time I don’t believe in going crazy on a team in the first game of the long Major League Baseball season, especially when they have 161 games to play. Baseball is the only sport where it’s no big deal to see the best team in the league lose to the worst team in the league on a given night.

I think Anthony hit on the head when he said fans shouldn’t try to elevate themselves above the game. Have a good time when you go out to the ball park and criticize the players when it’s appropriate, but don’t make the mistake of thinking fans came to the park to see you, the fan.

Paying $$ gives no one the “right” to act ignorantly. Keep your sassy mouth shut and write a letter to Reuben if you’ve got a beef. I can still enjoy the game regardless of results and my kids don’t need to hear that mouth drivel coming from someone who never played any sport at a high level. If one gets his jollies by ragging on players then he needs to become a movie critic… 95% of that Hollywood stuff shows no writing and acting skills.

Just another sign of the Philadelphia Fans getting “Soft” like their teams are and like their ex-Gov Rednell called them out on being… 5 Inches of Snow pretty much derailed the Eagles end of Season and Playoff Chances..
5 Inches of Snow.. that’ spretty sad and would have never happend 10-20 years ago, but it’s a different crowd and different type of fan in today’s world…

The only thing soft is you Paulman. Paying your money doesn’t give you the right to interfere with another person’s experience, they paid money too. According to you. if I go to a movie theatre I can make loud sarcastic remarks because I paid for my ticket. There is a way of cheering, booing, and making comments that’s not intrusive on others. Your perspectives are truly odd, at least this one doesn’t smack of racism like usual.

I guess it would have made sense to ask 70000 idiots to drive in a blizzard to watch a GAME. I dont understand you paulman. WHo are you a fan of? Why is it we are soft and you are not? Why is it some dude playing a softball league should be allowed to badger a proffesional baseball player? 10-20 years ago there was half of the cars on the road. It would have been assanine to play that game, and now you use that against Phillies fans in april? By the way… How are them Giants looking? 10-0? haha… I bet the Phillies dont loose a game by 10 runs this season.
