Eagles Eyeballing Playmaking RB, Hunter, But Is He Big Enough

The Eagles are looking at all of the top running backs in this draft with hopes that they can draft one of them who will be able to backup LeSean McCoy in case they lose Jerome Harrison to free agency.

They need a back who can be an effective runner, solid pass blocker, who can pick up the blitz. He also needs to be able to catch the football out of the backfield and slip out on those screens which the Birds love to run, when nobody is expecting them.

One of those running backs will be visiting the Nova Care Complex in the near future. Aaron Wilson of National Football Post reports that Oklahoma State All-American Kendall Hunter will spend some time with the Birds.

He’s as quick as a cat and can make tackler miss. Hunter has frighteningly explosive lateral agility, which allows him to weave through tacklers and turn stops in the backfield into big plays.

He’s the type of back that Andy Reid have been utilizing in their running and passing game, since Reid has been here. Hunter is an undersized version of Brian Westbrook and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Birds scouting department sees some of the same similarities.

He’s only 5’7″ height-wise and he weighs 200 pounds. He runs about a 4.5 forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis and at his Pro Day at Oklahoma State. He jumped 35″ in the vertical leap and broad jumped 10’2″.

He showed surprising strength for his size by throwing up 225 pounds 24 times. He would need all of that strength to pick up the blitzing linebackers in the NFL. That would be the one of the question marks the Birds would have about Hunter.

Hunter is a two-time All-American who was considered by many to be the top running back in the nation the last two years. He gained 4,181 yards and rushed for 37 touchdowns. He averaged 5.91 yards per rush during his career at Oklahoma State.

He has the skills to be an explosive ball carrier, but I don’t know about his receiving skills. Hopefully he showed those skills to the Eagles when he worked out for them.

His speed and ability to make tacklers miss could serve him well as kick returner, which add to his value.

Hunter is expected to go in round two, three or at worst four, so the Birds would have to make him one of their two, three or four picks.

Reggie doesn’t block well, has average hands and wants big $$ and is not a good fit for the Eagles.. I do thin he will move on from the Saints and be looking at teams like the Dolphins & Redskins where he can be the man as possible landing spots..
As far as smallish backs go, the Eagles already have Buckley and Hall., but this kid Hunter is the type of RB that AR loves,, Quick, shifty and can catch the ball out of the backfield.. Could be a 4th/5th Round Selection..

I like Demarco Murray from Oklahoma he caught 71 balls for 594 yds and 5tds while rushing for 1214 yds and 15 tds. My sleeper would be Taiwan Jones from Eastern Washington the fastest back in the draft.

I like Hunter. I talked about him before. The kid loves to block, and Reid loves RBs that can block. I think he would be a good fit here. Although, I think he would probably never supplant Shady.
