There was a report on Philly.com recently about a team or teams making offers to the Eagles for rookie backup quarterback Mike Kafka. I found that hard to believe. I know Andy Reid is looked upon as a quarterback guru by many coaches and player personnel people around the NFL, but I couldn’t understand why teams would be interested in Kafka after he barely took a snap in 2010 season.
Who knows maybe they’ll be interested in him after this season, but when could he have impressed anybody since he barely got on the field in 2010.
I wasn’t the only one who was buying the story about teams making offers for Kafka. He wasn’t buying it either.
Kafka was working out today at the Power Train facility in Cherry Hill today, along with quite a few of his teammates. He was getting in a core workout (stomach, back) with the gym’s staff.
First I asked him if he knew of the team that had made the offer for him. He just started laughing and I started laughing right along with him.
I asked Kafka if he thought the Eagles had gotten an offer from another team for his services and he said, “Maybe somebody was trying to find make some news about, but I don’t believe it”.
We had a good laugh. Who knows maybe there’s somebody out there that’s really interested in him
He looked like he was in great shape and said he’s looking forward to getting better and can’t wait until he can start throwing the football to the team’s receivers in these workouts.
Andy Reid and the Eagles have often traded for a guy that they wanted to draft but could not. He is as young as most draft picks and has a year of film study and training under his belt. And he has gotten a year of NFL coaching under guys who made AJ Feely look good. He would be a good insurance policy if someone picked him up now and gave him a preseason of game experience.
