Ellis Hobbs Sounds Like He Plans On Continuing NFL Career

Eagles cornerback Ellis Hobbs was having a disappointing season a year ago at the cornerback position before sustaining a severe neck injury, which he wasn’t able to return from. He had been torched by wide receiver Kenny Britt during the Eagles game against the Tennessee Titans.

During the Eagles-Giants game at Lincoln Financial Field he had been taken off the field with what was believed to be a severe neck injury. That was the last we saw of Hobbs on the football field.

The veteran cornerback was replaced by Dimitri Patterson and written out of the formula for next year’s Juan Castillo led defense because he was expected to retire. Something seems to have changed because Hobbs spoke to the Boston Herald as he prepared to an upcoming youth football camp in Warwick, Rhode Island and he sounds like he wants to continue his career NFL cornerback.

“All I’m doing is relaxing,” Hobbs said. “Because of the lockout, it’s just giving me extra time to work on other things. But none of the doctors have said I need to shut it down, I need to stop playing. I myself haven’t even thought about that, or going that route. I’ve weighed both sides of it, and I’m pretty comfortable where I am right now.”

Hobbs is a unrestricted free agent, so he can sign with any team which would have him. Of course he’s going to be required to go through a thorough examination before any team would offer him a deal. I don’t know how the Eagles will react to this, but I’m sure they’ll have a reaction of some sort this week. The season-ending neck injury which Hobbs had sustained in the 2010 season seemed to also be a career ender, but the former New England Patriot was non-committal originally after the injury occurred, but later on he seemed to be leaning toward retirement.

The football camp which Hobbs is not only going to teach football, but he and some of his former Patriot teammates are going to teach the youngsters some life lessons.

”Growing up, I’ve worked at camps, I’ve been a part of them. But the thing we’re doing, we’re going to involve life skills as well,” said Hobbs, who plans to bring in professionals to talk to kids about drugs, job skills, money, etc. ”One thing I’ve learned over the years, not just football, but sports, coincide with life. You can apply the same type of knowledge and abilities you have in football to life. The same applications of not giving up, working hard, being on time, going the extra mile, all those things apply to regular life. ”

The following players are expected to join Hobbs at the camp: Jerod Mayo, Kevin Faulk, Brandon Meriweather, and James Sanders.

Best wishes for Hobbs , but as far as giving it a go again, All I can say is that it won’t be with the Eagles… Maybe he can try out for “Goalie” for the Flyers if he want’s to stay in the Philly area..

NOT IN PHILLY HE WONT………. Look good luck to the brother……. He’s risking his life and his health as well……. The ability to walk is something he should think of……. Why gamble with such a serious injury…….. But if he thinks he can play……. best of wishes…… but not in Philly!!!!! Perhaps the UFL would be a great option!!!!!
