Kolb Traded To Arizona, Eagles Acquire Rodgers-Cromartie

Quarterback Kevin Kolb is finally an ex-Eagle. The team completed a deal that will send the  former second-round pick to Arizona in exchange for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second round draft choice. The Cardinals have also agreed to terms with Kolb on a five-year contract extension worth $63 million, with $20 million guaranteed.

The Eagles have now addressed two of their biggest needs on defense, with the trade for Rodgers-Cromartie, and the signing of defensive end Jason Babin.

Rodgers-Cromartie gives the Eagles a legitimate starting cornerback to place alongside Asante Samuel. The fourth-year corner will fill one of the most glaring needs on the defense. He has good size, but isn’t known for being a physical presence. He has 13 career interceptions in three seasons, including six in 2009. He has also returned four interceptions for touchdowns in his three seasons. He is currently under contract through the 2012 season.

The Eagles did well to also acquire a second round pick to go along with Rodgers-Cromartie. The Cardinals were the last quarterback-needy team, and had no serious bidding competition from other teams. For the Cardinals to give up a talented young cornerback and a high draft choice for an unproven quarterback (with a 3-4 record as a starter and 11 career touchdowns to 14 career interceptions) shows just how desperate Arizona was to address their quarterback situation.

The market for teams that would have been interested in Kolb had dried up significantly, and the Eagles were still able to come away with a quality package of compensation for their untested backup quarterback.

Kolb and Rodgers-Cromartie won’t have to wait very long to face their old teams. The Cardinals will come to Philadelphia on Sunday, November 13th for a 1:00 p.m. game.

People keep saying were not being aggressive? I don’t get it!! We just got 2 pro bowl caliber players on defense at 2 positions we needed to fill. Just get a DT and a LB and were set. I see T Cole piling up over 12 sacks along with Babin. Don’t forget about A DIxon. He’s gonna b a monster this year

I give the Eagles front office credit on this one. Getting a 2nd Rounder, means the guy could be a bum and they still can draft a great player.

Sproles is a good player butis not needed here.Unless he really wants to be a return specialist and occasionally see some mop up duty. I think the DT could be fine if you add a Tulloch. I think right tackle would be little more pressing since Justice is starting out on the PUP

Gotta give roseman credit for this one, he got tremendous value for Kolb…. Not to change the subject but word is from a league source that the agent for the Texans DT Amobi Okoye have been given permission to seek a trade… Now would he interest anybody?

What do you guys mean something in the works?? What the pats and eagles for haynesworth? No at all! The pats just released there starting DT marcus stroud to free up space for Haynesworth so no there will be no deals made for a guy the pats just traded for and who they need to team up with vince wilfork in the middle of that defense… good ness thats scary…

Keyword Jon Hart is MAY give up a future pick – belichick gets the best DT’s a dime a dozen and NE plays the 3-4 same as the skins, while we play a 4-3. Their MAY be something brewing.

Kolb is a mediocre quarterback hyped by some in the Philadelphia media. He reminds me of Gerry Cooney. The media tried to make these guys more than what they were and when they fell short, the writers went into hiding.

Its a good return considering how the lockout affected things. DRC is an upgrade at a very good cap number. I wish Kolb lots of luck in the desert and will watch his progress but I am an Eagles fan first and always.

The lock out also cost the FO in negotiating with Vick as now 4 is gone there is not much leverage over 7.

R Clabo – Falcons
W Colon – Steelers
J Gaither – Ravens
J Brown – Redskins
C Johnson – COlts
J Trueblood – TB Bucs
J Scott — Steelers
S Locklear – Seahawks
A Barron — Rams/COwboys
S Heyer – Redsksins

and a lot more players who never started an NFL Game before, as you can see, not a very deep/talented list.. maybe some players will get release but very doubtdful for quality OT in the NFL don’t grow on trees and are hard to find..

OK on Sproles – I live out here in SD and he is the man – he is small but he can still go up the gut (the reason the Chargers let Turner go in FA was to give Sproles more time) – great hands and some speed – Him and mcCoy would be a hell of a one-two at RB

As for Da Right Corner as Schill named him – 6’2 and ran a legit 4.29 40 – pro-bowler in 2009 was a WR in HS – all american in college and a 1st rd pick – – – – – –

so wait – this FO drafts a guy in 2nd rd – gets some servicable play from him for a few years – then trades him away for a 2nd rd pick and a 25 year old pro bowl CB that is 6’2 and runs a 4.3 40………. wow – the insanity

Well….at least Big Red gave his longtime comrade in Juan a good payday before the ship crash and burn..This defense with inexperienced safties and a corner that never met a pump fake he didn’t jump on will sink Reid. ….Watch….Unless this offense scores 35 points a game there’s no way this squad get past the 2nd round of the Playoffs.

These nutjobs believe the acquisition of Babin and a Corner who had a serious down year last season is the equivalent of The T.O, Jevon Kearse year.

Just saying. Someone does an awful lot of giving themselves credit for no good reason, not mentioning any names. I find it strange though that in his latest post he skipped right over the part about how the eagles would be lucky to get a second and a fourth for kolb, or that he would’nt be traded. Dude you provide some good info. but sometimes you just gotta eat crow. Anyway you look at it thats a good deal. DRC is a young player with tons of upside, sometime it just takes a change, esp. for a young player.
