Eagles Swoop Ahead Of Cowboys & Jets To Sign Asomugha

In shocking fashion the Philadelphia swooped in and signed Pro Bowl cornerback Nmandi Asomugha ahead of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets.

All day today, the Jets and the Cowboys were thought to be the two teams in a duel to get Asomugha. The Eagles were never mentioned. Then all of sudden on the NFL Network, Michael Lombardi said that some how both the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets were out of the running and another had moved in on them and outbid them.

To my shock, a minute or two later, the Philadelphia Eagles were revealed to be the team that signed Asomugha. They signed to a five-year deal for $60 million dollars.

This might mean that Asante Samuel, who has played for the Birds the last few years, may be heading elsewhere. It’s hard to believe that the Eagles would keep three Pro Bowl level cornerbacks.

Rodgers-Cromartie and Asomugha are taller than Samuel and may be better match-ups for the big receivers which the Eagles face.

There’s a good chance that the Eagles are going to keep all of them. In the NFL right now, defenses go with three cornerbacks nearly 50% of the defensive calls. It be a great situation if the Eagles could matchup their three cornerbacks with all of the three wide receiver sets they face during the season.

Remember that this is a passing league. The Eagles said they were going to make a splash in free agency and my or my they’ve done it.

SCHILL, i’m drinking to Andy, starting in 20 minutes. I told you guys Asante is gone! He was a cancer in the locker room, & refused to change for his coaches. Remember the Sheldon Brown interviews? Who do you think he was talking about? I just awoke & heard this & fell out of my bed with excitement. If they now get a LB & DT, they will be Superbowl bound, I don’t care how young they are.

I believe I read that 3 CB Sets were run about 60% on all Defensive snaps for the Eagles the last couple of Season. With the increased 3 WR Sets, the Double TE allignments, splitting RBs’s out wide, I believe that 3 CB’s can co-exist and be on the field at the same time very effectively..
In fact check the Packers D last year last year where S Shields and T Williams were the Cover CB’s and C Woodson was allowed to roam free in the middle of the field covering TE’s, Backs of the backfield, some slot receivers, occasional blitzing, etc, etc… maybe they will use the ball-hawking DCR in this kind of similar role with his rangy body and long arms ,reach and agood hands.. and let Asmo and Samuel cover their sides of the field… The combos and coverages are endless ..

NFL network starting rumors about maybe Samuel to the Cardinals for draft picks. Who knows if that ever materialize to anything. But they just put that out there because apparently the Cardinals came a little too late for the Nnamdi sweepstakes and need a CB for losing DRC. Samuel has some high cap numbers too for the next couple years. We need a LB now and some solid back players and we’re good to go from a personnel standpoint.

I’m not to sure of our FO letting go of asante this early but if we do we trade him to NE for a trade for Haynesworth. Again I’m not lobbying for us to trade Asante but if we do, I believe NE for big Albert. Still it’s to early for all the trade talks. Lets enjoy this moment for a minute before everyone jumps the gun.

I just heard that Jets HC Rex Ryan had a heart attack and almost choked to death on his linguine and clams up a Sal’s Restaurant in Queens..
I also heard that Jerry Jones jumped off his BIllion $$ Stadium as 10,000 Cowboy Season Ticket Holders cancelled their season packages after hearing
them losing out to the Eagles for Asmo.. Jones tweeted that he may bring D Sanders and E Smith back to get fans excited again…

It would be great to keep Assante with the DRC and NA but, the Eagles could/should use his value in other areas where there’s still higher needs.

Guess what defense i will pick up for fantasy football? With a d-line like that and a redicuous cornerback set, our mediocre linebackers (and kurt coleman) will look like borderline pro bowlers… casey matthews will probably have more sacks than his brother. will asmo play safety by chance? i drc and samuel can’t tackle so that eliminates those scenarios

This is the year that Banner should say stuff like “we’re putting the pedal to the metal”. Not the years when we don’t do anything LOL. Anyhow, let’s see what happens at the LB position. We’ve never had a problem going after DBs and DLineman. So let’s see if we do something at the LB. Now I’m not saying we need a pro bowler. Just someone to add some size and a solid guy who just does his job.

Wow. Never seen this coming, shocking is being modest….Trading Asante I def wouldn’t do…..but if we do not get a LB keep all of them….With no movement on the LB front, I was very amped to see this news…The scenario of getting Nnamdi along with DRC never crossed my mind….thought it would be one or the other type of situation…Songs you got your man!

Here’s another thing guys…. if they trade Samuel (and I don’t want them too) then they really didn’t spend that much to get Nnamdi because it’s only around 3 million more than Samuel’s cap number. So it’s a great move without having to spend a lot more money IF Samuel is traded.

The way Reid & Roseman sound, Asante is as good as gone! Good, he gives as much as he gets! I knew something was up when they were talking about playing DRC out of position, at his opposite CB side. Hunter Pence is not to far behind. Irish car bombs & shots 2night, baby!
