Most of the talk this week has been about the absence of Eagles speedy Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who has been holding out for a new contract. Unfortunately for the Eagles Jackson isn’t the only starting wide receiver who is missing from camp.
Jeremy Maclin who had battled mononucleosis and lost 15 pounds during the off season hasn’t come to training camp as of yet. Today in a morning news conference, Eagles head coach Andy Reid told us he was ill, but he wouldn’t tell us exactly what the illness was.
It’s obviously serious enough to keep him out of camp.
This is something to keep an eye on.
Wish him a speedy and full recovery but this could set him back a a good month or 2 if it’s the full blown mono.. You lose 15-20 lbs and it will take a good little while to build your strength and stamina back up… Another reason to sign Plex Burress and then you can let Maclin take his time and not rush him back
Mononucleosis is a viral infection causing fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph glands, especially in the neck. Causes, incidence, and risk factors
Mononucleosis, or mono, is often spread by saliva and close contact. It is known as “the kissing disease,” and occurs most often in those age 15 to 17. However, the infection may develop at any age. Mono is usually linked to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), but can also be caused by other organisms such as cytomegalovirus (CMV).
Symptoms
Mono may begin slowly with fatigue, a general ill feeling, headache, and sore throat. The sore throat slowly gets worse. Your tonsils become swollen and develop a whitish-yellow covering. The lymph nodes in the neck are frequently swollen and painful.
A pink, measles-like rash can occur and is more likely if you take the medicines ampicillin or amoxicillin for a throat infection. (Antibiotics should NOT be given without a positive Strep test.)
Symptoms of mononucleosis include:
Drowsiness
Fever
General discomfort, uneasiness, or ill feeling
Loss of appetite
Muscle aches or stiffness
Rash
Sore throat
Swollen lymph nodes, especially in the neck and armpit
Swollen spleen
I guess they don’t want Maclin kissing the other players

You guys missed the gist…he had mono in April. Not something he just got. This isn’t mono or else they would of just came out and said it was mono since it would be no secret. This is something to really keep an eye on. I hate to say this but I heard it is serious to the likes of cancer. Again I hate to say that or even spread that rumor and I hope to god that isn’t the case. But something just doesn’t seem right about the whole situation.

I haven’t followed this story or paid much attention to what Maclin has or hasn’t been doing all off-season..I hope he is ok for I thought he really progressed and matured as a Receiver last season and maded huge strifes in his all-around game from his Rookie season (which was pretty darn good too) I was expecting a real breakout year for him as many teams slide their covreages to D-Jax leacing Maclin more 1 on 1 opportunities..This will be a big blow if he’s out for any substanital length of time and if it is the C word, then who knows how long he could even play Professional Football and would need to concentrate on getting well first ..
