Reid Says Test Results On Maclin Have Been Good So Far

I’m glad to hear that so far all the tests of Jeremy Maclin have been negative. The young wide receiver has been kept out of practice because he’s battling some unknown illness.

For the entire training camp the Eagles have said that Maclin, who struggled with Mono-type symptoms during the off season, is undergoing medical tests.

Yesterday during his appearance on 610-WIP, Andy Reid spoke positively about Maclin’s test results up to now. He says the doctors test have had good results.

“He wants to jump back in there now,” Reid said. “I’m optimistic. … We should (know something) in the next little bit here.”

Maclin, who looks like he’s lost weight from a year ago, stands on the sidelines and watches practices every day at training camp. He has done light drills on the side with the other injured players, but he is yet to put on his helmet or any other pads and go through a practice.

The former Missouri Tiger is a key weapon in the Eagles arsenal. With DeSean Jackson arriving yesterday and still yet to practice with the team, the Eagles offense hasn’t look the same with their two fastest receivers out of action.

People talk about the Eagles being a west coast offense team, but in truth they’re really a big play offense with Michael Vick, Jackson and Maclin in the lineup.

That’s great news about Maclin. I was listening to G this morning on 610 and he was cracking me up with his talk about Justice. He is such a sloth! But I guess we will have to keep his excessive salary since Harris is an injury risk. Speaking of slackers and injuries. Does anyone else notice that that infamous foot issue that Todd Herremans has had for the last four training camps (and only during camp) is not an issue this year. Nice to have Evan Mathis and Danny Watkins around isn’t it. I believe that has something to do with that foot being ok. No worries if you dog camp when you have Nick Cole and Fat Stiff MJG there. Not this year. Maybe now he will finally realize his PB potential that he alwatys seems on the verge of right before he takes off another TC.

Any chance we get rid of Parker’s salary? He makes 3.5 this year. Do we really need him if Hunt has a strong preseason? I say no. Save the money for Vick and D Jack. Parker always wears down late in the year. I don’t want to spend all that coin on a guy that is useless after TG when the games really matter. Any opinions?

The way I see it, when you smoke up in the car together you are either to tired to bother with camp or you play great half a year, eat a box of tasty cakes, and fall asleep on the couch for the second half. Some guys burn out earlier. Some guys get a little boost.

jbird – I think parker is valuable. Ok, so he wears down, and he aint getting any younger… but they don’t need the extra $ – they can resign vick and djax with what they have now (peter king and others made that abundantly clear).

I think Parker’s consistent production (and consistent lack of production) are worth keeping around. Yeah, I’ve heard good stuff about Hunt, but 0 NFL snaps and some hype (which we heard about mallet – also from the CFL – last year too before he was cut) v. 8 sacks a season for a while…. I’ll take the sacks.

If we can add Parkers 8 to Babin/Hunt/Cole/Tapp production (maybe some Graham later in the year), I’d rather add without subtracting…

i think that we will keep parket. Hanson, imo is probably going to be cut with lindley and marsh in the mix.

Schill….I want Graham on IR. He is not worth a valuable roster spot in this critical year. He was not impressive enough last year to play him off an ACL this year. He will be less than what he was which was mediocre. Look for contributions from Hargrove as well. This guy is a sleeper I think. And let’s not forget Jenkins. Maybe Laws with all these other guys around to make life easier. I still don’t think Parker is worth the money though.

Wild…I have been thinking that too. But I don’t know if Lindley is showing enough. Marsh definitely stays but Lindley has had a two camps and he is only a 4th rounder. They have to be convinced he can be a solid nickel if one of the big three goes down. And they can’t keep six corners when they will probably need five DTs due to uncertainty with Patterson and six WRs due to the Maclin situation.

I think Maclin either had/has mono or hepatitus. It sounds a lot like hep to me. He just has to get his liver to get over the initial shock and respond to treatment before his body can handle the stress of pro football. But I am betting it is hep and he wants to keep that private. He may miss a chunk of the season and his career may be compromised.

hmm, it could be hep…however, im not sure because i know that when i was a freshman in college a few years back we had to be vaccinated for that. Not sure what missouri’s polocy is on that.

wild…there is no vacination for hep C. Hep B but not hep C. I woked in a hospital for a number of years so I am familiar with it.

This is how rumors get started…keep all your “I think he has, this” “think he has that” to yourself!

I hope we get more clarity on Maclin and Patterson before final cuts because we really don’t want to cut a guy like a Sinorice Moss that will get snatched up right away if he has a good preseason. As far as the DTs, I guess we want Dixon, Jenkins, Patterson, Laws and Hargrove. If we cut a Thorton or a Landri and then it turns out Patt is done, we can keep them on the practice squad. Can’t do that with Moss. Besides anyone can pilfer your practice squad anyway. Those guys are not exclusive rights.

WTF do you get he might have hep from that report?

He’ll be fine….they’re taking it slow with him and this gives Cooper good reps.

We’re healthy right now and guys are fighting for spots. Good comp early in camp.

Real…it is speculation. Just trying to guess at what is so secret he doesn’t want anyone to know. So it must be Hep. And if it is, he may never tell us. I don’t really care. I just want the kid to be healthy and not have anything life threatening first and foremeost. Secondly I’d like to get his ass on the field to help my football team win the SB. Because like Apollo said in Rocky III, “Man, there is no TOMORROW!!” This is it with a dim shot again next year. But this year is really it. He needs to get healthy and strap it on because we need him to do this. Tired of not winning because of health issues all the time. Now we have AVM and maybe Hep. Christ this isn’t even football stuff. Its f-ing crazy the luck we have (NOT!!!)

And injuries and health are not “part of the game” so much as they are a part of not winning! How many times do the Pats and Steelers lose star players for the whole damn season?? That’s why they win SBs and we don’t. Not a “part of the game” for teams that win championships. They are “part of the game” for all of us others that don’t!

i am not sure how big this Harper kid is standing next to Maclin, but MAclin looks like a High School player standing next to him and what really sucks is that Maclin finally overcame he fear of contact last season and was really blossoming into one of the top all-around WR’s in the NFL.. If he’s not 100% and 10-15lbs lighter and goes back to being a little gun shy because of it, It may take him 2 years to get back to the point where last season where he finally overcame the “deer in the headlights” look he had as a Rookie.. Most important is his health and I wish him a full and speedy recovery but If I am the EAgles, I was looking at the Waiver wire to bring someone in for I see Maclin on th ePUP list and not eligible to play until week #5/#6..(maybe bring in a TJ Houzhmazada for a short-term fix..) If Maclin is unable to play, then teams simply double D-Jax (with a Defender in front of DJ and a defender over the top and basically take him out of running free and on any deep routes) and than that leaves who else to hurt you.. Avant/Cooper are more possesion type of receivers and are not going to run away from coverage..S Moss has had a nice camp and maybe he can be that guy…

EAgles could very well Start with M Patterson,J Maclin and W Justice all on the “PUP” list which prevents them from playing to about week #5 or #6
I see B Graham going from PUP list to the IR list and be ineligible to play at all for the 2011 Season and will heal completely this late fall sometime and then be 100% Ready fo next Off-season, Ota’s,practices and be ready to go next Summer Camp…Never the less, a great opportunity for other players to step up and this happens to every team along the way.. So we will see how good and deep this Roster is and how well GM Roseman/Coach AR can fine tune this Roster to pu other players who can help then in certain spots..
