Blanton moved to 60-day DL, Schwimer called up

Remember Joe Blanton? The guy who was the odd man out in the rotation because he’s not a super ace? Yeah, that guy. He hasn’t pitched in a while. May 14th was the last time he pitched due to some sort of nerve issue in his throwing elbow.

Well, the Phillies just moved him from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL, which probably could have been done a long time ago. Blanton said recently that he won’t start another game this year, but will probably contribute as a reliever at some point. There just won’t be enough time to get his arm strength back up to speed to be a starter.

In a related move, the Phils called up Michael Schwimer, a right-handed pitcher who was pitching very well at Triple-A Lehigh. In 67 innings this year, the 25-year old has a 1.88 ERA and an 86/22 K/BB ratio. I’ll be curious to see what the kid can do at the MLB level.

looks like fat joe and the terror squad was short lived. I was never impressed by blanton’s stuff but he kept it close for the most part. From what I’ve heard about this kid from Lehigh is he is the real deal and could be a guy to watch a in the near future. 88k’s in 67 innings ain’t too shabby. Id like to see what he does in the majors

Wasn’t Schwimmer the guy on TV Show “Friends”
He probably has some make-out scenes with Jennife Anniston that lucky dog..
