Report: Eagles Offering Asante Samuel For Two-Second Round Picks

Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports the Eagles says he has learned that the Eagles have been shopping Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel for two-second round picks but no teams have agreed to the deal.

Last week head coach Andy Reid was asked whether the Birds were still entertaining offers for Samuel and he said the Eagles listen to offers from GM’s about all their players.

The big question will be Samuel’s reaction to the report that the Eagles have been trying to trade him for two-second round draft picks.

Since its draft picks you might as well wait and use him this year. Trade him after the season. If there was a player involved that could help this team then I would understand. But just to let him go now is ridiculous when I can probably get the same value after the season plus use his services this year. But wouldnt that be nice. A 1st round pick, 3 #2 picks, 3rd round pick, 2 4th round picks, 5th, 3 6th round picks and a 7th. Then an extra 2013 2nd rounder for Samuel.

Daggolden..you are right on with your analysis. Why trade him for draft picks? If they could get a stud linebacker?..maybe

Just keep him and have one of the best Secondaries/CB’s Group in the NFL
Worry about 2012 and future draft picks after the season is over

I see about 3-4 teams who have depth at LB and could use a CB(Dolphins,Panthers,Vikings,Seahawks,Jaguars & Raiders)

By trading Asante for picks, now, makes the Eagles weaker for this season and possibly the next. You dont know what you’ll get from the rookies, you know what to expect from Asante…Only way I trade Asante now, is for someone of value in return, picks makes absolutely no sense to me! Eagles have taken some giant steps forward, lets not take a step backward, especially for this season!

This is bull. Not gonna happen. No team will give up two 2nd round picks… smh. And there not gonna trade Asante, they just wanna see what teams will offer them… They will have the best secondary in the league this year with him have 10 INTs, you watch.

Not so fast Songs,
Here is the Panthers LB Corps (One of the best/deepest in the NFL)
Starting talent in Jon Beason, James Anderson, Thomas Davis and Dan Connor
(then back-ups M Williams, J Senn, and even O Gaither) which is a much better LB Unit than the Eagles currently have.
A name to look out for is Thomas WIlliams out of USC, a 2 year Pro who at 6-1 240lbs would make for a nice MLB in the Eagles Scheme and playing behind Beason and Connor, he probably won’t get an opportunity to play or maybe not even make the Panthers Final Roster.. Keep an eye on this kid and maybe G has some insignt about him since he went to USC..

Panthers RB position is stacked with DeAngelo Williams, Jon Stewart, Mike Goodson and sleeper Josh Vaughn with FB T Faimmettta which is as deep as a Backfield as any in the entire NFL (including thr Eagles)

Take a look at TE position with Greg Olsen (who they stole from the Bears in a trade) Jeremy Shockey and blocker Ben Hartstock which rivals any TE group in the NFL..

A look at OL with All-Pro’s LT Jordan Gross, C Ryan Kalil and the now heatlhy RT Jeff Otah with decent Guards in T Wharton and G Schwartz, this is as good as any OL in the NFL..

Now with new OC Chudzinski (from the SD Chargers) and QB Coach Mike Shula, the Panthers will throw the ball a lot more, use their TE’s a lot more
and if their young WR’s can step up and make plays to take pressure off of Steve Smith and QB C Newton, this team will move the ball and score some points and be in a lot of games and can bounce back to .500 pretty quickly ..

The only reason I bring this up is to state to Songs, that the Panthers are not garbage, they actually have a pretty young and talented team for the most part and have a very bright future ahead of them.. Songs is the type of person who gives Philly fans a bad rap for he thinks only his home team are good and that everyone else sucks and doesn’t realize that there are a lot of good teams around the NFL besides the Philadephia Eagles, who are also doing good and exciting things too… My Heart and Mind are with the Eagles but I do follow the rest of teh league too to keep up with who is doing what and this year I see a lot of improvment with teh Panthers,Seahawks anmd Redskins

HHAHAHAHA – everyone CLAP for SONGS. Yep – I just (typed) that!

Paul, there’s nothing wrong with being a Panthers fan – OWN IT. But clearly Songs pushed your button there – beause…. YOU ARE EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED TO THE CAROLINA PANTHERS. Dude, that’s A ok. You’re a Panthers fan. I’m an Eagles fan. Out there somewhere there are Cowboys fans and etc.etc.etc….. but this shows how you are emotionally attached to the Panthers, and less so to the Philly teams. And that explains how you are able to fool around, toy with people, spew verbal diaherea all the time etc.etc.etc. for the philly teams.

It’s ok to be who you really are.

no, the panthers are not garbage.
he basically said what i was going to…
position by position they are not far off and they have a good coaching staff.
a staff that is used to winning, and a talented team that will go through some QB growing pains
but remember, a running qb may not complete a lot of ball and may throw picks, but getting those backbreaking scrambles on a 3rd down or those 20 yard runs will come in handy.

you are confused to think the panthers are garbage.
i’m honestly not sold that the buccs are that much better than them.
with all that said, they might not win a lot of games, but will be a challenge to teams.
they do have the toughest schedule of all of football for this season…
but a promising future (short and long term)

btw word is out of Carolina camp that Deangelo is gonna get a crack at being their “LT” with Stewart taking a legit backseat.
I’ll believe it when I see it because Deangelo didn’t perform for my fantasy team but it’s something to watch.
Especially the toughest schedule and a rookie qb (or 2nd yr) they will run a lot and dump the ball of a lot

I see RB J Stewart possibly being traded to a team who has a need due to injury. 3rd String Mike Goodson is much more explosive and a tougher runner.. J Stewart needs a fire under his ass in my opinion..
And to Schiller, Do you really think I would spend as much time on GCOBB as I do, if I wasn’t a Eangle Fan… Your just jealous that I follow and know about many other teams, but see, that’s what a real Sports Fan does, he not only follows his/her favorite teams but the entire League and Sport too..

What a waste of 50 seconds of all our lives. Why doesn’t everyone realize that every player on every team is always available for the right price?

Paulman,

I agree with you on the Panthers being deep at the LB position. I like Beason and Conner alot and think that Beason for Asante would be a good trade and possible Conner and a 3rd for Asante would be nice as well. The problem we face is that the Panthers have no shot at winning the next 2 years so they do not have a need for Asante. Asante will be traded to a team that is trying to win now. I think SD, Indy, Baltimore and of course we have to throw in the Raiders as teams who might need him.

I would say it would be best to get a player and a pick but if a team is offering two 2nd round picks then we should do it and use that money to sign Vick and Desean.

Asnate won’t be traded until next March. Why weaken the best CB trio in the NFL? Can’t have enough CBs in today’s game – especially if you are trying to counter Green Bay’s 4 WR offense.
