Ron Jaworski Sees Eagles Getting Off To A Slow Start

Former Eagles quarterback and current ESPN NFL analyst Ron Jaworski said he believes the Eagles will get off to a slow start because of all the changes they’ve made with their coaching staff. I agree with him wholeheartedly.

“I would be very surprised,” Jaworski responded to a question about the Eagles starting quickly. “I know the term Dream Team has been mentioned. The Eagles organization despised that word. They know it is going to be difficult with zero OTAs and rookies not getting their playbook and veterans that were signed not getting their playbooks … I think it is going to be difficult to get off to a fast start. Teams that have stability in their coaching staffs and players are going to be the teams to beat this year.”

This is what I was talking about with regard to the changes on the coaching staff. When you change things it takes time for the players to adjust to the new system and many times, mistakes are made in games because of the changes which have been made.

Despite his feeling that the Birds will get off a slow start, Jaws was gushing about all the talent the Eagles have assembled on this roster.

“There is no doubt, when you look at Philadelphia, they have an incredible assembly of talent on their team right now,” Jaworski said. “However, that being said, they also have had in incredible changes on their coaching staff … It takes time for a team to develop that chemistry that is so important.”

It’s going to be hard for teams to deal with the Eagles once they have adjusted to the changes, but a slow start could mean giving up home team advantage in a championship game.

Could you imagine if a slow start forces them to play the Packers in NFC Championship game in Green Bay rather than hosting them right here in Philadelphia.

Let me guess….Jaworskis opinion is “unintelligent” and is not around the team so how would he know? He is just being negative so he must be an ignoramus.

Where did Jaws ever get this idea. He is a genious. New coaches, new players, new techniques, chemistry, one year contracts. If it doesn’t come together this season then what? Banner has been planning for this for two years along with Roseman using a model from the Boston MLB team. How can it go wrong. What can possible be left out as in previous seasons. Is their plan flawed like the economic stimulus?

vricchini … are you serious? the eagles stomped the rams, panthers (who were in NC playoffs one year earlier) in 2008 and 2009 in the openers … you dont remember D-Jax’s coming out party?!?

we barely lost to the packers last year (both times).

i guarantee you that we will kill the rams … if not, I will eat crow like a man. I expect you, jaws, G, and paulman to though when the eagles win!

Wait, so BigE, you think the superbowl is determined by the team who has the least flawed plan before the season starts? What planet do you live on?

A couple of things..
name me Teams that havent had a lot of change as far as Coaching Personnel
Even the succesful teams like the Packers & Steelers had to assistants move on.. New D/Coordinators are all around the NFL with the Eagles,Cowboys,Texans,Chargers,Broncos,Panthers,Titans,Browns,Jags and O/Coordinators begin at th Vikings, Raiders,Seahawks,Browns,Panthers,Chargers ,Chiefs etc,etc so I am not buying into this notion that new coaching staffs can’t be succesful out of the gate…The smart Coaches and COordinators will take it a slow with the game planning the first few weeks so it gets down to execution, talent and making the big plays and preventing the big plays as well as Tunovers and Penalties as it usually does.. This is not rocket science and every team has no OTa’Short Training Camps, Injuries, new players, etc, etc, so I don’t want to hear abotu a built in excuses before the Season even starts..

Dr Bridge,
The Final scores of both Packers game were much closer than the games themselves.. PAckers dominated both games thru 3 quarters only to ease up anmd take the pedal off the metal whch gave the Eagles to have a chance to get back into both games which I give credit for the Eagles doing, but I would not go so far to state that both games versus the Packers were close competitive games..
The Eagles will not blow out anyone the first few weeks of teh Season, besides the OL having 4 new players on it (Mathis,Kelce,Watkins and HErremans playing RT, there are 2 WR’s who have had litte game speed time with WB Vick (Maclin/Smith) so I don’t expect this Eagles offense to hit the high gear to about week 3-4 ..
I think the Ram game is a 3 point game with Rams winning at home 23-20
on a late FG as Bradford COmpletes a short pass to D AMendola who rumbles for 30 yards to get in FG range on a 3rd & 18 Play.. (Amendola runs past the fallen LB C Matthews) and then down the Sideline for the big gainer…

A few things need to happen quickly.

1. Sign Desean Jackson. He will not play as hard without a big contract and that will hurt us.

2. Offensive line obviously needs to gell fast.

3. Linebackers need to pressure the qb early and often.

4. Stop the run or 1-3 don’t matter.

My prediction

Eagles 10-6
Cowboys 9-7
Giants 8-8
Redskins 7-9

Dr. Bridge. The Rams are a good football team. They are not to be over looked. I think you look at it with a closed mind. They have a stellar defense very underrated. They have a tight end on the rise in lance kendricks that could cause a serious match up problem for these linebackers and theyre at home looking to prove a point and what better way than to beat the “dream team” this will be a tough game make no mistake about it

I’m not buying into what Jaws and everybody else is saying. I believe in Reid and his coaching staff, they’re licking they’re chops in anticipation to the season! Preseason doesn’t mean jack, they didn’t show any of their cards. The Eagles will unleash this wild bird once things are for real! Yeah the oline and linebackers are a concern but they’ll overcome it. Eagles 37-17 whip the rams ass and prove its not a dream its for real!!!!!

This turf favors Vick’s speed and this is the only reason I’m picking the Eagles in game one. But, if the Rams are able to control the clock with their running game and get a lead going into the 4th quarter all bets are off.

I believe a Superbowl winning defensive coach knows exactly how to scheme against weaknesses and if the middle of the line gets collapesed often Vick may get hurt not having a pocket to step up into with long coming off the end.

Eagles must get a 14 point lead early to force the Rams out of their running game.

This first game will let us know if Kelce and Watkins can play….If they are exposed in a smashmouth game…The Eagles lose

Jaws said the season would be lost over and over and over again. He also said the Eagles would be a poor team last year, and the year before that. He has little credibility when it comes to predictions.

Philly…they did ease up. That team was superior to ours in every single possible way and could have crushed us. Our defense was mediocre at best and our O line sucked. We made a few plays and they made a few mistakes that kept the game close. It wasn’t close. And before free agency this was not even a playoff team. Way too many holes. We got there because of Vick. Once defenses figured out how to effectively limit him, we looked stone cold average on offense and the D looked bad because they couldn’t carry things AT ALL. We were a 7-9, 8-8 team once teams got a handle on Vick.

I fully agree that the Eagles get off to slow start. I see the offense right now as just as anemic as they were at the end of last year and just as they looked in preseason. I’m not going with the conventional wisdom that its only preseason, its vanilla, etc. Whatever!! The O line is weeks away from being polished. I have no doubt that Mudd will get the house in order but it will be at least October before we feel more comfortable with this line. You can’t have a regular jail break on every snap and expect to have a consistent or even capable offense. They will need to lean on the running game and short passes for now. Small ball. They will struggle to put more than 20 or so points on the board this month. The defense will take less time and they can carry us some right now. We will get more pressure and that will create turnovers that will help put a mediocre offense in good field position to maybe steal some points.
I see a bigger struggle with the Rams than expected. I would take them with the points in a heartbeat if I was a gambler. Atl is probably a loss. Maybe a pretty bad one. The low will be the home opening loss to the Giants. There will be injuries from those jumping off the bandwagon. The sky will be falling. The Giants despite their problems are tailor made to beat this team. They can play smash mouth small ball which will be very effective against this D. And they will try to put Vick in the hospital on every snap of the ball. I would not be surprised if Vince Young finishes the game but just because of too much abuse not a season ending injury.
The good news after a 1-2 start is San Fran and Buffalo stink even if Young has to play through the bye, we should be 3-2. The tough game will be Wash on the road. They will not be an easy win. They never are and we are as terrible before the bye as we are great afterwards. 3-3 would not be at all unrealistic. Let’s just hope its not worse than that. I still think they will win ten games easily because although we may be an 8-8 caliber team before the bye. I think we will be a 12-4 caliber team after the bye.

Gotta luv it….What is so hard to understand??? They will need time to jell. I think there will be moments when they look pretty bad early on. Especially the O line and middle of the defense. But I think through good coaching and abundant talent they will show their ultimate promise by the time the second half of the season rolls around. I don’t think the SB is in the cards this year. Next year, when the O line and LBs are more mature and have a full off-season of work and we add yet another pass rusher with Graham and Cole in a contract year and Maclin can have his breakout season that was derailed this year, we will be not just a SB contender, but the clear NFC favorite.

Indeed I do agree, certain parts of the team will need experience, chemistry to grow…no one player can win the SB its a team effort, no doubt….but lets keep in mind…our O Line was horrid last season.I can’t really imagine it being much worst….I am worried, dont get me wrong, but the adjustment with Herremanns may make a big diff, we’ll see.. Offense really hasn’t changed much…I also don’t believe that Mudd is over complicating things, considering the shortened training camp…

I also believe that the defense is much improved, right now! our LB’s and CB play were an issue last season…so was the pass rush… We definitely improved at CB and at DE and DT, so 2 out of the 3 are covered…I’m just not willing to say that no super bowl is in the cards for this season…only time will tell! Let just buckle up and enjoy the ride…

Jb and real – sure gelling is in order and will take time. And yes, we all should expect to see times where the OL LBs and pretty much everything else look bad, maybe real bad. But that does not necessarily translate to the final score at the end of games. I’m a bottom line guy. If the Eagles look bad early this season, but win most of their games, and start to improve, I’m happy. However, most likely many fans will judge their overall satisfaction/expectation level off of how the team looks, not just Ws and Ls….

Jaws is a human. humans suck at predicting the NFL. That’s a fact. He’s got a 50% chance either way. We call all flip coins as much as we want between now and 9/11/11, or we can watch the game and then discuss the outcome (while some begin flipping coins for week 2, the playoffs, the sb, and so on)…..

yada yada yada

To PW,
Jones catches that Gimme TD pass just before the half, It’s PAckers 21-3 and game over, They ran the ball to shorten the game and yes the EAgles made a nice comback in the 4th Quarter, but Packers wre superior in almost every facet of both games played against them.. If it weren’t for Vick’s heroics in the middle of the Season, the Eagles were a .500 team last Season and that is what it was..

Paul, ramble ramble ramble. Your sucha attention seeker. You know the rams arent that goos. Yes they have some talent but they have a very poor Oline, there corners are weak and can be beat…. The eagles will win that game, i wont give my score just yet but, just like in yrs past they will stop the run and will control the game… Who is bradford throwing to? Gibson? the reciever we let go of? Sheesh… sims walker? the guy the jags let walk? Cmon… we know the bull rb steven jackson will get the ball and will try to plow n pound us but the birds will be game planning for that specifically…. The birds win this game, out right…
