Andy Reid Shouldn’t Be Trying To Match Marv Levy

Why is Andy Reid’s agent touting his client achieving enough to be Marv Levy? Is Marv Levy somebody he should be trying to match in achievement. I guess Michael Vick should be trying to achieve what Donovan McNabb achieved here in Philly.

Most of the Eagles fans I know, don’t want to hear that. Marv Levy went to four Super Bowls and lost every one of them. NFL fans see him as a guy who couldn’t win the big one.

Yes, going to the Super Bowl four times is quite an achievement, but losing four Super Bowls takes nearly all of the positive feeling away.

“History will write, that Andy Reid, if he doesn’t win the Super Bowl – and I certainly hope he does – will be Marv Levy. If the worst thing that happens to Andy Reid is that he has the ability to be the winningest coach, perhaps by double the wins, in Philadelphia history, which will never be matched, win the number of divisions, go to championship games, have the winning percentage he has and enter the Hall of Fame – he’ll have to rest on that,” Bob LaMonte, who is Andy Reid’s agent. said to Philly.com.

LaMonte represents Reid and nearly 50 NFL coaches and assistants. He obviously must know how negotiate a contract, but he knows absolutely nothing about public relations. How could he think that Eagles fans want to match a guy who never won a Super Bowl, but lost four? It’s the wrong guy to try to match and the timing is really bad.

I take my hat off to Reid and what he has done, but not winning a Super Bowl means there’s something of tremendous value that is missing. It means he never reached the ultimate goal. There’s no way to get around it and it would definitely be a major disappointment.

“Marv Levy, I don’t think anybody questions, minus winning a Super Bowl, wasn’t a brilliant, brilliant coach. If that’s all they say about Andy Reid, I’ll be very happy,” LaMonte said.

Unfortunately most of the fans see Marv Levy as a guy who couldn’t win a Super Bowl despite having four chances. I’m sure that other coaches realize that he was a brilliant coach because of his knowledge of the game, but that doesn’t do the fans much good.

Ask the fans of the Buffalo Bills how good they feel about getting to the Super Bowl four times and losing each time.

Making it to 4 straight Super Bowls and losing all of them is more of an accomplishment in my book. If he wins it well , then he is surpassed Marv Levy.

Garry please, nobody suggested that Reid is trying to match Levy. They were speaking of the worst case scenario for Reid’s legacy, not ‘aiming for close but no cigar’. That’s pretty weak of you to skew that comment for a ploy at the negadelphs. I’m not trying only to criticize you, I love some aspects of your site (obviously) but this is irresponsible journalism that just fuels the Reid haters for no other reason than pandering.

What a stupid comment to make..
If AR was fired and out of work abnd looking for a job, then I can his agent mentioning all his accomplishments and the comparison ,
Doesn’t it sound like some pre- Season excuses are being built into this Club already and the Season hasn’t even started yet… Something fishy going on and I think it has to do with Coacj AR not calling all the shots anymore like he used.. I think Coaches Mudd and Washburn have GM Roseman’s ear’s as much as Coach AR anymore and I don’t think Coach AR likes it one bit..

paul – no it’s not preseason excuses! The agent was interviewed, and had to answer the question. Now it’s being cherry picked and blown out of proportion by the media (shocker). But this didn’t come from Reid or the team – so how does your point hold any water?

Wow on Hanson, Andrew P
I didn’t hear about that, I would have to say that Colt Anderson goes or maybe one of the younger players have come up with an injury (Jarrett or Marsh)

With signing Hanson even at a league Minimum for a 3-4-5 Year Player and keeping players like JJ, WJ,JP , you can probably assume no new deal for D-Jax .. I just don’t see where they will have cap space to do anything this Season with his deal..

With all due respect G. Who cares? Its a stupid statement made by some d-bag agent who liek you said knows jack about p.r..

And i love reading everyones posts and now its nothign about football and about Paulmans b.s. throw sh1t at the wall statements and spin machine sh!t.

Talk football Gary…its gameweek.

Heres some article ideas for you and you duns.
How do the young backers look this wek in practice?Or how do you think they’ll take on the challenge of the Rams rush attack?

Nmandi looks to make immediate impact?

Maclin looks cripsy with Steve Smith in the slot next to em?

I dunno…thoughts…ideas…im always original.

Can anyone tell me why a 7-9 team who needed to win a game to get the p-offs and got wolfed by the Seahawks last year is making ANYONE nervous.
We have o-line concerns….but they could play really werll game one and run the pill to loosen the waggles and boots…..SO STOP CRYING AND WORRYING ABOUT THE O-LINE.OUR QB’S A NINJA and our rungame looked nice in the pre-season.

WE HAVE THE BEST SECONDARY IN THE LEAGUE!!!

I agree Garry.. Fans dont wanna hear about Marv Levy.. I have respect for what those bills teams accomplished, but I’m not trying to hear all this nonsense about how it would be ‘ok’ if reid wound up like him… levy has nothing to show for all that work but alot of tape of his teams getting decimated by NFC east teams like Dallas, NY, and DC…

the last thing philly fans want is that kind of legacy

Hanson’s back- what is he making?

Djax deal- where are we now?

Hows Herm doing at RT?

Hows youngs hammy?

why a 3 headed monster will return in our backfield.

Yes- we know the line is a mess…. yes… we know AR is a good…no… great….no very very bad coach.

How IS Herremans looking at RT? Is he holding the fort down? Does it look like he’s the answer there for the long haul?

How’s Maclin looking? Steve Smith?

Is Evan Mathis holding his own against the starting D?

Marv Levy
Bud Grant

Take your pick

Andy Reid can’t win the big game period.

Those are perfect examples of why he never will.

Neither coach adjusted their personal or philosophy.

The Vikings got physically manhandled by the Steelers Raiders and Dophins.

Showing up with a scrambling QB and undersized defense every year.

The Bills had a boatload of talent and should have beaten the crap out of the Giants. But Bill Parcels showed the value of a running game and took all the air out of that high flying offense.

Nobody made his agent say that. It was already in his mind.

Tampa Bay and the New Orleans Saint got Superbowl Throphys on Andy Reids watch.

The 2 worst francishes in NFL history.

Quick making excuses for the “Chesssteak Factory”.

Andy’s a winner. He’s just not a champion. And never will win one in Philadephia. Period.

His agent only said what has been the truth. As a matter of fact, if I was Marv Levy I’d be offended. Andy only has 25% of the Conference championships Marv Levy has.

Nice article Mr. Cobb. Keep up the good work.

We will never win a SB, with the current regime & philosophy. If Reid doesn’t at least get, to the SB this year, he needs to go! It’s just that simple. I really hope he has had an epiphiny this off season, & changes his philosophy, because it is flawed & very predictable. But we know that ain’t going to happen, because of his ego & stubbornness. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Reid hasnt adjusted his philosphy… I think of the packer playoff game last year. The Packers ran the ball and we didnt when we were the team that should have been running it.. They had some nobody in there and they ran it anyway.. we had Shady and didnt bother.. mccoy had 12 rushes and harrison had 1.. Starks had 23 rushes and 2 other guys had 3 each…

The association is almost correct, but Reid can’t even be compared to Levy equally or favorably at this point. Reid’s deficiencies are highlighted by the comparison and the missing other three SuperBowl appearances.

Rasheed- back in the day we ran the ball. under reid. Duce ran and ran and ran. Bucky and westy too. Then he began to throw…. and we said…. he has no recievers….. and finally…. he got 1….. then 2… then 1… then 2.. then 3…maybe 4.

back in the day we had HUGEEEEE Olineman…. and we said….. if you arent going to run…. dont get the big fat guys. and then…… he got a new Olineman coach….. who uses little guys.

I am not exactly an Andy fan…… im not exactly a F.O. guy… but i call it like i see it. This F.O. did a very very good job putting this team together. Andy…. HAS changed what he does…sometimes i dont like it….but he has.

I thought the Eagles were high on Lindley?

So last year’s draft was a disaster in the first 3 rounds huh?

Damn

I can’t wait until the off season for the Eagles to talk about all the picks the Eagles have to wheel and deal. Guys, is this the case every offseason?

We hear how Eagles like to collect picks and have more than most teams?

What the hell good are they if they can’t pick the best out of the first 3 rounds when available?

We have a 2nd round pick in Jarred Allen who I think may be a player, but he can’t crack the lineup against last year’s 5th rounder and a journeyman Page taken off the scrap heap.

Something is not right in this front office.

Someone, somewhere need to have their head rolled.

zoltek, im excited every year but you have to face reality, with this offensive line superbowl is not going to happen, we have 2 or 3 rookies starting, a guy from cincinati. so thats what 3 or 4 new offensive lineman that dont know our system worth crap. it is what it is. I bought tickets to the game in philly 350 a piece section 104 row 1 for the jets game. Obviously i wouldnt spend that if i wasnt excited.

Andy Reid must run the ball and concentrate on developing his young players. In the past our offense was to predictable and that caused major problems once we got in the playoffs. I feel he’s under more pressure than Vick. We will all get to see what game strategies he uses and what adjustments he makes at halftime. Since we just got some good players in free agency it will be his job along with his assistant coaches to make this group successful. If he comes up short then I will be the first to say we must move on. This is the most talent he has to work with since he’s been coaching the Eagles!!!!! Birds 31 Rams 24!!!!!

ok..let me just paste what I’ve said fromthe last three offseasons.

Here it is.

I wish andy would finally get over himself and scrap his philosophy to lean on the running game more.

I wish the Eagles would revamp the team that works with Andy for Instant replays so we can win challenges instead of continually losing timeouts with his poor challenges.

I wish Andy would improve in time management.

I wish Andy would put a premium on beating winning organizations instead of padding his resume with door mats only to lose when it counts down the stretch against top coaches and superior teams.

I’ll just paste this next offseason.

Paulman, I think it’s time for another one of your casts for my new Thriller/Drama.

Titled. “SHITLER’S LIST”

This movie is based on a prominent team in a sweatshop atmosphere setting, with company trolls to schill websites and tow the company line while knocking detractors.

They are recruited off of the corners of 13 and Arch streets homo community with a promise of moving up and if effective….
Will get a signed autograph of Spud in thongs.

Paulman…you think you can pull this off?

Schill is the leading whore on the corner…and BirdoBeamen the lead supporting cast.

Of course this drama would not be complete without a love scene. Schill could not help but to admire Bird’s adamant fervor against what he percieved as haters…So while beating the keys in disgust, Schill grabs his hands to assure him he’s not alone …and then?

The moment

Schill kicks off his stalleto high heeled pumps…and turn up his favorite “Village people” hit YMCA …then Andy walks in the room……..
