The Eagles Are Panicking And It’s Costing Them

Have you ever read the sad stories about people dying in house fires? Once the people realize the house is on fire, they begin to panic and it causes them to make mistakes which cost them their lives.

Right now the Eagles are a football team which is panicking and it’s costing them their football lives.

A team should focus more in big games. Having a sense of urgency without focus can cause you to panic. The Eagles knew how important yesterday’s game was, but they let it cause them to panic rather than get more focused.

Football teams which panic, jump offsides at the end of the game, when they should know that other team isn’t going to snap the ball. They hold onto the football too long and let the clock run out at halftime. They throw desperation passes when under pressure rather than taking a sack and get them returned for touchdowns. They fight for extra yardage after getting a first down, despite the fact that they’re being surrounded by four tacklers and they get the ball stripped from them. They run by the guy with the ball and miss tackles.

“I think guys are just trying so hard to make a play,” Vick said after the game. “We know what we’re capable of, we know what we can do. We move the ball up and down the field all game, and I think that in the moment, guys are just trying to make the play and be the game-changer, want to be the guy making a contribution.”

Wide Jason Avant caught the first down throw from Vick and was surrounded by four Buffalo Bills defenders. All he needed to do was go down to the ground. Instead he fought for an extra yard. It cost him the football.

Trying too hard makes players undisciplined. The Phillies went up to bat in the last game of the NLDS and tried too hard to make something happen and helped get themselves out. Being over eager is the attitude of somebody who is not properly handling the situation.

John Wooden always told his players to be quick but don’t rush. People who rush make mistakes.

Despite having a pass rusher in his face, Vick made a blind throw down the middle and it was picked off by Nick Barnett, who returned it for a touchdown. He admitted that the panic attitude was his downfall.

“I had a guy coming down my gun barrel and I should’ve just took the sack, should’ve just took the sack . . . Like I said, you’ve got to be disciplined in the moment”, Vick said after the game. “Sometimes it’s hard, but I think that was a game-changer. You go from 14-7 to 21-7, now we’re in the hole trying to fight our way out. Those things can’t happen.”

Vick panicked on that play before the second half. He should have given himself four seconds at the most to find a receiver, then he needed to throw the ball past the line of scrimmage on to the turf. He threw the ball through the end zone and that cost them the last couple of seconds of the half.

I love how everybody is blaming Vick for all those turnovers, are you people watching the same game as me? He was responsible for two of those turnovers which i agree is a big deal but what do you expect with the line thats playing in front of him ? Lets give the Bills a little credit too, they also intercepted Tom Brady 4 times, the same Tom Brady thats considered the best QB of this era, as bad as those turnovers hurt us we still could of won the game if our D played like a real NFL D, change has to be made on that side asap.

This Eagles Train Wreck reminds me on what happend last Season to the Cowboys and their over-hyped team who was going to win the Super Bowl in their flashy new Stadium..They started 1-7, and finally fired Wade Phillips, started with a talented roster but little discpline, a bunch of egos, lack of team leadership,.. Now this off-season, the COwboys let go of 6-7 Starters from last years team.. I believe the Eagles will have to do the same thing..
Problem is, Assistant HC Marty Mohnerwig would probably have to become the Head Coach.. With this Defense in flux, you simply cannot bring in a brand new Offensive Coaches to change the Current Offensive philsophy and players and not expect a couple of rough years and struggles… What do you do with Vick and his $100 Contract.. Vick is not very well suited for the typical Pocket- QB type of System that many Coaches would employ..
Maybe a jon Gruden could pull it off since he’s familiar with the WCO or a Stever Mariucci… But many Defensive Minded Caoches coming in would have no idea what to do with Vick and this Offense so Marty would have to stay for the interim anyways..

Keep making those excuses Andrew. Its not his fault…not his fault!!

The first screen pass was low. Must have been Vince Young’s fault. The second pick was bad…I think the Eagles’ had Ronnie Brown in there for a wildcat play on that one though….The pick 6 was an absolutely horrible pass, but it was Mike Kafka who had put on a Vick #7 jersey at halftime…just for fun.. And of course there was the whole…….1 steamboat, 2 steamboats..3 steamboats…4 steamboats…hey perhaps I should throw….5 steamboats….6 steamboats….how much time do we have again??….7 steamboats…..8 steamboats….what do you mean time just ran out?? That’s odd. That must have been the olines fault. Everyone’s fault except the QB. Can’t be Vick’s fault at all.

Y brady threw 4 picks against the Bills…and then has gone out and thrown 1 since. The Pats D is swiss frikkin’ cheese, but they score pts and are 4-1.

Your hero Vick is a turnover machine. He has now done everything in his power to keep SF, ATL and now Buffalo in the game….keep handing the ball to the other teams and and then put it on the D, the oline, or anyone else who’ll take it……but not Vick….never Vick. Can’t complain about him or get labeled a racist hater. 1 and 6 in last 7 starts. But its everyone else’s fault.

Maybe the Eagles will end up with the #1 Overall pick and Select QB A Luck from Stanford… I would play out the rest of the season but look to move a few players while they had Still have some Value..
Trade Vick for a Top LB and High Draft picks in Return
Trade CB A Samuel before he has little to no value
Trade D-Jax for Defensive Help and Draft picks
Trade B Celek for a mid-round Draft pick
Trade M Patterson for a mid-round Draft pick

I would release the following players as of Today who are not working out and don’t fit any future plans anyways
Juqua Parker, Jarrod Page, OL Devan, RB Ronnie Brown

Pman- if the eagles ended up with the #1 overall pick the would either…..

1) draft a DE/LB tweener to play full back and return punts.
2) trade it for 2 round 2 picks and claim to outsmart everyone

Paulman who could the Eagles’ trade Vick to now? Seriously. Last year they could have grabbed 2 first rounders…….his value at all time high….today? Enron.

Look at the teams who need a new QB……and then ask which would take on a completely inconsistent, brittle, turnover machine. The list is pretty short.
Miami yes
KC – nope—trying to run NE style offence there.
Denver doubtful – have enough issues dealing with Tebow drama
Colts – nope. no chance they want a guy like Vick
Redskins – potential…they do lots of stupid things
Dallas…potential. Romo time over. But they’d have to trade him first….going to be difficult. Jones might want a Vick cause he’s all about flash over substance.
Seahawks yes
Bears sure
Vikes nope…just drafted a QB
So that’s 5 teams who might be interested in taking on Vick. And 2 of them will have high draft picks and be choose a QB in draft. That leaves 3 at most. Market is small.

Eagles stuck with the Vickbatross for at least 3 years.

vinnie- its not that people think that Vick is above blame. Its that he is NOT the #1 problem on this team.

you are right- at least 1- maybe 2 of those picks weer on him yesterday. But you cant honestly say that the 2 avant ones were his fault. I mean….. come on man.

He is getting slammed on every flipping play. He’s running for his life. Even you have to understand that some of that blame is on him for holding the ball long and some is on the oline…. and therfore…. the coaches who built that line.

Do you understand that the entire team is making mistakes?? that Jmak fumbled the ball last week and avant did it this week….i meaan- there is enough blame to go around. And pointing at your bedroom and screaming “my bed” is on fire” when the whole house is burning to the ground just makes you look silly.

I love how people blame Vick….. it isnt his fault there is no balance on offense…. McCoy would lead the ;eague in rushing if they gave him the ball 20 times a game and Vick’s passing game would be more efficient….instead of running the old Ram’s style offense, which was referred to as the best show on turf…. the Eagles offense can score at will on anyone, if the defense was half-decent, the Eagles would be 4-1.

things will not change until Reid is replaced…. Winston Moss is the perfect choice.

Y the Avant play was bad, and its not being excused….but why did they have to come back in the first place…..hmmmm, ummm……oh ya. Handing the Bills 14 and taking at least 6 off the board early. Who did that again? The hole had been dug. By whom?

Vick has handed Atl points. Handed SF points. ANd now handed the Bills pointsn

Take a look around. Ds all over the league stink. Look at many of the top teams in the league (W/L record) and how many pts they give up…NE (24 a game against), SD (22 a game), NO (25 a game), Buffalo (24 a game). Eagles (26) The difference…..their QBs don’t spend the game giving the ball to the other team!!!!!!

Since his 4 game abberration last year, Vick has more turnovers than TDs. He is the most important player on the team…..and he is bad.

Bad. Stop making excuses. If any other city, or any other team had a $100 million QB with TDs, 8 ints and 7 fumbles he’b be getting CRUCIFIED.

But not you guys…..its not his fault.

The Miami Dolphins are the only team that comes to mind about who potentially would be interested in VIck.. Their owner D Ross , has a ton of $$$ and wants the attention and excitement back to that Franchise..
Coach Tony Spadaro will be fired after this Season and per my Sources down in the South Beach.. John Gruden will be offered and tempted to take the job and having a QB like VIck interest Gruden very much..

Eagles can get OLB Koa Misi or ILB Karlos Dansby and a 1st Round Pick..

Stevo…its the exact opposite. Everyone on TV has been telling me for a decade that Vick is a superstar. He’s on the cover of every magazine every friggin’ day.

It is because I actually watch the game and don’t listen to talking heads that I can see for myself he stinks.

I was there yesterday. The screen pass was low. The pick 6 was insanely bad, and the 8 second disaster at the end of the half was beyond….I can’t even describe it. It was right in front of me….Everyone in the stadium was laughing their asses off at that. Bills fan for god’s sake. Bills fan!!! It was embarassing.

The guy is a professional QB and he can’t even count to 8!!!!

I disagree complelety
with you G

Yesterday showed they have character and is a reflection of Reid’s leadership

On a hot afternoon with a 1 and 3 record and being way behind they could have packed it in

THEY DIDN’T

They fought to the end of the game and damn near pulled it off

Vick’s TD was called back because of Wajkins’ Hands in The Face penalty
and they still were right there at the end

That shows the coach has them not giving up

It is the turnovers and dropped passes that is killing them

They are going to beat the skins this next game and go on a roll from there

Somebody has their panties in a bunch about Vick. Stop pointing fingers and give solutions. Vick is not the problem. Coaching, lack of playcalling on Defense and Offense, poor drafts, bad players. These are the issues. Vick has grown tremendously since he’s been here. I saw him change a play at the line of scrimmage and McCoy scored on that play. Andy is a front runner coach always has been always will be. He’s fine as long as he’s ahead EARLY, but when he is not, his playcalling goes in the toilet. That’s a fact. This team gets down early too often. The Redskins are next… they WILL run the ball, stop it we win, don’t stop it, we lose… Too many poor decisions, and stop recycling old crusty coaches.

Do you think that the anount of Turnovers that VIck is contributing to is contrbuting to some te slow starts by the Eagles and putting them behind the 8-ball right out of the gate… I love watching Vick play, I just don’t think he’s a winner in the NFL.. He takes too many risks and doesn’t protect the ball well enough and playing under AR & MM Offense just magnify’s the risk in my opinion.. The Eagles will finish 6-10, Vick will throw for over 4,000 Yards and rush for another 800 yards and commit 25 Turnovers himself between Int’s & Fumbles.. and what does it all mean… nothing, same old crap with a different cast, the only constant is Coach AR & MM..

Huh … of all the problems this team has from top to bottom with bad tackling, retarded play calling, poor clock management, mental midget defensive schemes, undersized linebackers, a Swiss cheese offensive line, safeties who are constantly out of position, receivers who can’t hold on to the damn ball, and an ex-offensive line coach as our defensive coordinator whoda thunkit that it was all Vick’s fault?

I mean, sheesh all the guy has done is thrown the ball up and down the field and run for his life on every play. Lazy bum. He should do more! He should get out there on defense and make tackles! He should run downfield and catch his own balls so his receivers don’t let them be torn out of their hands or schtoink off them up into the air! Hell, he even should have been out there on that 4th down play, whispering in Juqua Parker’s friggin’ ear to not jump offsides! What a loser! How can we have such a stiff at quarterback! He should be cut today! He should be kicked out of the NFL! He should be stoned to death in a public forum for all to see!

Vinnietheevictor, so your saying that TD run by Vick that got called back is his fault? I guess the strips from the Bills DBs are his fault also, dont tell me, the missed tackles on the D somehow were his fault too, get real, for every mistake Vick made he made up for it by running and getting us right back in position to score, sure the man has flaws but to say its all on him is crazy, it all comes back to coaching and everything falls on Reid and that front office. You tell me how in the world do they take Banners side kick ( Howie Roseman) who as Jon Richie on espn pointed out when he was here was nothing more than a cap guy who crunched numbers and have him run your draft board? We all see the results with that but dont tell me, thats Vicks fault too. The team needs to grow a set of balls and bring in people from outside the cocoon their in and have experience people run the show.

No Andrew I did not. What I said simply and clearly was Mike Vick giftwrapped a 17 point swing to the Bills in the first half.

1 – the intercepted screen pass was a bad throw. Bills at midfield TD Bills +7.

2 – the 2nd interception on throw to Celek should not have been thrown…Buffalo didn’t take advantage. Bills still +7

3 – 3rd interception on throw to….well who was it to anyway? Bufflao LB just standing there….terrible terrible throw….came at worst possible time as Buffalo had scored drive before Bills now +14 on Vick freebies.

4 – Terribly ridiculous 8 second brain fart at end of half. Eagles -3 pts

I mean honestly….he gave the ball to the Bills 3 of the first 4 drives. Its 21-7 at half, to a good team…on the road….the place was going absolutely bonkers…I still have that stinkkin’ “Lets go Buffalo” song ringing in my ears I heard it so much….

Newsflash….this has been going on since mid season last year. Do you know Vick has throw a first Q pick in each of the last 3 weeks? This team, and expecially this D cannot recover from handing the other team what amounts to a 17 pt swing in the first half.

I am not bringing up the Avant int/fumble cause it was pretty much a moot point. Mike Vick is putting this team in difficult situations. He’s been handing points to home teams on the road, and then we’re what? Supposed to expect NYG style comebacks. Ain’t going to happen.

Complain all you want about the D, but Mike Vick is a turnover machine….always has been. Always will be…and this team not good enough to recover from that kind of carelessness.

There is plenty of blame to go around in this fiasco. I know everybody wants a head on the fence outside the NovaCare complex, an offering to the villagers with pitchforks and torches banging on the gates. But it is all of them. I am fully aware that the captian of the ship is responsible and accountable for everything that does and does not happen while at sea or tied to the pier. But Andy did not throw the picks. He did call the play, however. Mike V is holding the ball too long. Watch Rodgers, three steps back and voom, the ball is gone. I am only stating that he has been holding it, not that he is incapable of improving. He is going to work on it. I hope he gets his brain to go as fast as his legs, he could be the force we all want him to be. The wideouts are carrying the ball like the proverbial loaf of bread. The coaches have not corrected it yet, but it is also on the recievers and their teammates to get it squared away. The wr’s must talk to the TE’s about ball security, rb’s helping to coach up the receivers. Team, team, team. Olinemen helping the backs with their blitz pickups and chips on the D-ends, backs talking to Vick so they know where he wants them. Duce talking to Celek about what the backs see when he blocks down or releases, so guys are not getting free runs at the QB. Then Duce goes back and coaches up the rb’s. This team has not quit. They fought back after screwups upon mistakes yesterday. No team has ever quit on Reid, yet. But in the past, the team took ownership of themselves. They need somebody to step up and start that process now. I do not know who it is going to be. Maybe they do not have that guy, but I think they do. They are outgaining teams significantly, then beating themselves on stupidity. It is up to all of them to undig the hole. Nothing in the game of football is about the individual. They are all on the bus, or under it, together. I realize nobody wants any rational discussion. It is easier to light the torches and storm the gates. But next Sunday they get another chance to get it right. I want to see it happen.

Good stuff AS and you are right…
They have to have good practices and win 1 game next week verus the Redksins, then go into the Bye feeling better about themselves, get some injured players back (Peters and Cole) and then zero in on the Cowboys, they do this and get to 3-4 with a couple of NFC East wins under their belt, and they can be on their way to a strong 2nd half of the Season.. It’s time for the players to step up and have some pride and take some ownership of this poor start.. that’s everyone, Samuel, Fokou, Patterson,Parker and all the veteran players need to show these 1st year players what it is and means to be an Eagle…

I am not suggesting they are not a laughingstock right now. Any team they are going to play is going to look at the film and say “We can take these guys, they are beating themselves. They play stupid.”. But in the back of their minds, they also think “Boy I hope they don’t get this mess figured out the week we play them. They could hang a 40 on us if they would quit stepping on their own dick.” Just focus on the Skins. Nothing else.

Songs – dodn’t you admit back when you were celebrating the praises of the front office for signing all those free agents (oh yes you did, you were out in front talking about how you made them do it) that you post on using several different monikers? I think, if my memory serves me – you talked about how you post on phillyeagles.com with two or was it three different ‘personalities’

And why are you ‘fans’ – really – here is the websters definition of a fan –

A fan is a person with a liking and enthusiasm for something, such as a band or a sports team. Fans of a particular thing or person constitute its fanbase or fandom.

I know you frequently like to use words and terms that you have no clue what they mean (and I get called arrogant and that I think I know more then others – well – at least I know how to use a dictionary!) but the term fan is used to describe someone with a liking or enthusiasm (that typically means a positive feeling) – I have only 1 time seen you refer to the eagles with anything other then loathing 0 abd that was when you were declaring them going 19-0 and how you used all your different website ‘personalities’ to chide the eagles into going all in in FA –

how do you know so much more then the coaches – because you are so full of shit no matter which end you spew from you declare yourself ‘correct’ – and you seem to always ‘forget’ all the things you were wrong on.

Hey Navy, you’re pretty comical! Are you serious!? If you think calling me names, actually hurts me in anyway, you are a bigger condescending, egotistical joke, than I thought you were. You are meaningless to me! You can call me anything you want brother, it just shows everyone how classy of a human being that you are! I feel sorry for you, keep bragging & staying classy, you pathetic waste of space! Try having a little humility & humbleness, if you really did what you say you did! BTW, my personal life & family is not yours nor anyone else’s business! When I said those things to you last week, I was trying to mock you numbnuts, for all of your bragging & non-existing life accomplishments. Real men don’t brag, put themselves on a pedestal, & put down other people for their honest opinions, & fact finding. Why don’t you do the world a solid, & go suck on a tail pipe, & rid us of your existence. Sorry if that is harsh, but you’re a scumbag!

COrrection from Paulman, The Eagles will be bringing in Forer Titan D/Coordinator Chuck Cecil and not Tim Hauck (I got these guys confused) and both played a tough, hard-nosed Safety in the NFL before they got into Coaching.. Chuck Cecil is the Coach I meant to say that the Eagles should bring in…

Anybody that blames Vick for ANY of those interceptions is an absolute moron.

You’re right Birdo. How ridiculous to blame the guy who threw the ball for the fact that it went to the other team.

I for one think they fall squarely on Bobby Hoying.

Vinnie — you’re a moron, you have proved that over and over. I need some knowledgable fans on this site to discuss football please. Even the “know-it-alls” were talking about how some blame falls on Vick but more of it on his o-line.

Vick’s INT’s by description:

First INT: tipped a screen pass in the air, what can you do about that? The lineman jumped and tipped the ball, he read the play, more of a great play by the d-lineman than a bad play by Vick. Ball fluttered and landed in Bills players hands, what can you do? Vicks fault?

Second INT: Vick gets clobbered from behind by a blitzing linebacker that was almost untouched by Herremans. Vick did his job. Dropped back. Read the defense and went to deliver the ball to Celek on an out route and got clobbered from behind. Vicks fault?

Third INT: Vick drops back, sees Desean open behind the linebacker (which would have been a big gain) goes to throw and gets clobbered by another untouched blitzer, causing the ball to be underthrown.

Fourth INT: Vick hits Avant perfectly on an out route and the ball gets ripped out of Avants hands and flutters in the air before being intercepted. Vicks fault?

Please EXPLAIN to me how those INTs are Vicks fault? I need to know. Because if you know something about the QB position that the Eagles don’t, you should be hired. Explain this to me. I’m looking forward to your response.

BS. He threw the ball into the dlinemans face. This is what happens when the QB is a smuf. Bad throw.

Second INT: Vick gets clobbered from behind by a blitzing linebacker that was almost untouched by Herremans. Vick did his job. Dropped back. Read the defense and went to deliver the ball to Celek on an out route and got clobbered from behind. Vicks fault?

There is so much wrong on this play. Another shotgun snap and 5 step drop to exactly where the DE converging. Vick does this all the time.
Celek was 3 yrds past the LOS. This should have been a bam bam play. Throw it earlier. Vick takes snap at 4:37. Throws at 4:34. 3 seconds. Again, as has been pointed out many times…..QBs in the NFL rarely have 3 seconds…on any team.

Third INT: Vick drops back, sees Desean open behind the linebacker (which would have been a big gain) goes to throw and gets clobbered by another untouched blitzer, causing the ball to be underthrown.

Gimmmie a break. This throw went directly to the other team. Stop liistening to talking heads on TV. Vick himself said he screwed up on that play. It wasn’t a blindside rush…that guy was right in his face. Vick F-ed up and threw a ball he shouldn’t have. There were 3 Bills around Desean at the time. Do not try to make excuses for this throw. I understand your blind appreciation for the guy, but that’s ridiculous……Stop making excuses.

I never once said anything about the last int/fumble.

Birdo, you would be crucifying any other Qb who had played a game like that. But for you Vick is clearly untouchable. Anyone who brings up a 3 int (and a fumble overturned still sloppy) performance in the first half as a possible….a possible reason for the team being put into a bad spot on on the road and they are an idiot.

Nice logic putz. Are you going to continue with “Brady’s 4 picks against…they were all his oline’s fault!! Besides, buffalo had nothing to do with the pats losing either. Romo’s 3 ints had nothing to do with the Det comeback the other day…besides, it was the olines fault. Turnovers are irrelevant….and anyway, their every else’s fault except the guy who actually has the ball in his hands…can’t you see that…IDIOTS!!!!”

Turnovers, more than any other factor, lead to Ws and Ls in the NFL.

Eagles are -10 this year. Vick has 7 ints, 7 fumbles (3 lost) in 5 games. He LEADS THE LEAGUE IN PICKS AND INTS….how hard is that to understand??? And you call me a moron????…..slopppy, sloppy, sloppy. Annfl team cannot win with a guy like that.

2006 led league in fumbles
2005 led league in fumbles
2004 led league in fumbles…

are we sensing a pattern here….or are we all just MORONS who can’t see it??????

You ARE a moron. 95% of the population will tell you those picks weren’t Vicks fault and you would STILL believe you were right. Thats why YOU are a moron. There’s a reason Vick was given the contract he was given. He is an amazing player with amazing athleticism and has shown that no matter what, you are NEVER out of the game with him at QB.

Accept it. He’s our QB for AT LEAST the next five years. If you don’t like it, find another team.
