Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe Calls DeSean Jackson A Chicken

Hall of Fame tight Shannon Sharpe called out Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson on Twitter.  “Watching D.Jack of eagles his play is horrible he dropped 2 tds and several other catches, plus he’s chicken and wants no part of contact, eew”.

Sharpe isn’t making anything up.  It’s obvious that Jackson has decided that he’s more interested in staying healthy rather than helping the Eagles win football games.

Jackson has let his contract problems totally destroy him from a focus standpoint.  He has been unwilling to take hits over the middle and catch the football.  He wants a new deal but there’ s no way he’s going to get it by dropping touchdown passes.

The diminutive wide receiver was clearly protecting himself and unwilling to take the big hit when he had the chance to catch the football over the middle.  He dropped three passes which severely hurt the football team.

The first drop would have given the Birds a first down inside the five-yard line.  Young’s throw was high, but the ball could have been easily caught.

The second drop occurred when Jackson dropped a pass on a crossing route in the end zone.  Again Young’s throw was a bit high, but it could and should have been caught.  On the replay, you could see Jackson turn his attention to the tackler rather than watching the football into his hands.

On the final drop, Jackson had his hands on a long bomb from Young.  He was in the end zone, but couldn’t come down with it as he tumbled to the ground.  He should have been a touchdown.

“As a team we’re all focused on what we need to do,”  Jackson said. “We have five games left, and give it our best effort regardless of our record or anything and just go out there and play hard. So that’s our mind-set.”

Andy Reid benched Jackson after his drops, which signals the fact that Jackson will probably be playing the last five games of his Eagles career.

Desean definately isn’t trying because of the contract.

This issue could have been resolved easily with a front loaded 1-2 year deal.

Hes not a top 5 receiver. Let him walk and bring in a bigger player like Vincent Jackson and move on.

This team needs blown up from management all the way down.

Sad when its November and our season is over.

Desean is the problem? Really? He’s a good player with a shitty contract playing shitty qb’s on a shitty no heart team, led by 3 shitty coaches. Let’s not lose focus of the problem. The problem all along has been our coach, and our front office. Great they stay under the cap, last time I checked I don’t cheer for the accounting super bowl championship… Screw this front office, and screw Andy, Marty, and Juan Castillo. This team is garbage.

You guys are so stupid if you want to get rid of desean jackson. This is the T.O. stuff all over again. I hate T.O. so don’t think I’m defending him, I’m just saying look what he did for us. I could care less if he’s the biggest dick in the world if he gets me my superbowl ring. He almost single handily gave us a superbowl and little dickhead banner up in the accounting office couldn’t acknowledge that and give him an extra million? Screw this front office, screw our owner for being cheap. “this is a business” fuck you. fuck all of you.

This is obviously the fault of management, who will let another great player walk away. Desean is making 1/4 what Steve Smith is getting. Howie R., is an idiot, oh nice draft picks btw.

Desean Jackson is a bum.

Most players who want a big contract kick ass in the last year of their deal so they can increase their value on the open market. This scrub went in the opposite direction.

How come nobody ever says that Shady McCoy has outplayed his contract???

Because Jackson is a ME-First player and the Eagles knew it. The Eagles always redo young players contracts BEFORE they get too big to resign. They made no effort to resign this bum, because the film showed he was a retard from the beginning. Dropping a Touchdown before he crossed the goal line was only the beginning with this Jackass.

He is the size of a High School player and has made no effort to gain one pound, so that he could take a hit in the NFL. He and Maclin have made a carreer of looking for soft spots to fall on the football field. Celek, Avant and Riley Cooper have all taken big hits and gotten right back up. A lot of time it’s your state of mind. If you are worried about getting hurt you’ll get hurt. And if your really worried. Gain some muscle, like Jordan did after the detroit pistons pushed him around in the Play-offs.

As I have said many times in the past.

LSU
Florida
Florida State
Oklahoma
Alabama
Oregon
Virginia Tech

These schools routinely have 4.2, 4.4 (40) burners every year. You can find a fast WR with size if you really want one.

The FAT MAN is one of the most predictable play callers in the NFL. It was a pleasure to watch his buffonery go up against one of the more logical coaches in the NFL. The Patriots began the game running the football, knowing that they were setting up the play-action pass for the rest of the game. They let the Eagles jump out to a 2 score lead and still ran the ball.

They made adjustments to the pressure and hits on Brady, then blew the Eagles off the face of the Earth. It was a pleasure to see a pretender put in his place by the real deal. That FAT PHONEY has been exposed by the Steelers Coach and the Patriots coach.

Juan “Bozo the Clown” Castillio is a bum. He should have never accepted the position that his resume does not qualify for. Joe Banner should have never allowed it, and Jeffre Lurie should have laced up his finest shoe and kicked Andy Reid square in the rear for even suggesting it. Yes he would have broken his ankle, but sacrifices have to be made to win in the NFL.

The Juan decision ruined our team. It is a sick joke, and nothing short of Andy Reid being FIRED will correct it. In addition they should make the “Biggest Loser” put on a blindfold, and a cigarette and and face a firing squad for wasting 13 years of Eagle fans lives. OK that’s a bit harsh. Make him run the New York Marathon with a raw steak tied to his rear and a pac of pit bulls turned lose after the start. To be fair, give him a 5 second head start. After all I’m not without compassion.

Desean isn’t nearly the player half of you make him out to be. Don’t let the “swag” and his unbelievable speed fool you. His routes are sloppy and his hands are SUSPECT…..and I’m being generous.

Don’t get me wrong, Desean is a weapon….a dangerous one…..but he’s not the player some of you make him out to be. There are going to be plenty of receivers that are about to become available that I would take over him for this west coast offense (if indeed we stick with the west coast offense.) — Vincent Jackson and Dwayne Bowe come to mind off the top of my head.

Desean is nothing more than a glorified Todd Pinkston.

I would venture to say Kevin Curtis was a better WIDE RECEIVER than Desean Jackson. Notice what I capitilized.

Point is, this offense needs guys that aren’t afraid of contact and have hands — Desean is and has neither.

Jackson has done nothing, like bsm points out , to elevate his game to be a sustained threat,, its obvious he has not done the off season work to develop his frame, Welker is small, but he’s powerful, Jackson is a bum, eagles saw it, the world saw it on Sunday

Reid should get his life in order starting with his weight, we can joke about it, and his disrespect of the fans invites the jokes, but its no laughing matter, resign Andy, take care of yourself, your family, get your priorities straight

He never loaded our barn up with good horses so now we rely on a bunch of mediocre talent. You want to look at good drafting through the years? Look at what the Houston Texans have done. I’m no blind Djax fan either, I could give a shit about him or his money. I’m just saying why would we let him go when he’s not a fly speck on an elephants ass in the grand scheme of things… The problem is the owner of our football team, and our accountant President. Our organization is the gold standard. The gold standard for making money. Well if they want any more of my money, they better kick Andy, Marty, and Juan’s ass to the curb and get rid of the garbage players, and start drafting some dirt eating, nastiness. I repeat Desean is not the problem. You want to get rid of him? whatever get rid of him! I could care less. I’m just saying he IS NOT THE PROBLEM

Paulman (a regular Joe and Poster on GCobb) has been saying this for 2 years… I like D-Jax for about 15-20 Plays a game and as a Return Man and he would be just as effective as opposed to try being a real #1 WR which he is not, never has been and bever will be due to his poor route running, lack of consistent hands and his overall lack of toughness..) Now he will avoid contact at all costs (as I called he would) and he’s not even worth being on the active roster for these final 5 weeks in my opinion..When your the size of D-Jax, the only way you will last in the NFL is to play with that reckless abandon (like Wes Welker or a Steve Smith does) and that’s just not D-Jax Style..You cannot played scared in the NFL and last for any long period of time.
I stated at the end of last year and earlier this year, that this would be D-Jax’s final season as an Eagle… and please, if I hear the let’s place the “Franchise Tag” and then sign him and work out a trade him 1 more time I think I will get sick… He is done as an Eagle, WR’s are a dime a dozen and this 2012 Draft Class is very deep at the WR Position
It was fun watching him when he played agressively and used his speed but D-Jax has worn out his welcome and it’s time for him to move on plain and simple.

@paulman, totally agree D-Jax is a nice long threat weapon and returner. #10 playing soft and dropping TD’s is problem number 15 or deeper on this team. Andy Reid must go, Juan must go, Howie R., must go, but none of them will so we all focus on #10 ’cause he probably will go.

I can’t stand listening to these short sighted idiots who blame Djax and just want to willy nilly let him go. Without desean, Maclin is nothing. Without Desean special teams is nothing. He has been knocked goofy once already and he does not have the size to take the hits going over the middle

I think everyone knows my stance.

Jackson’s a game changer, who’s been totally underpaid, disrespected and misused.

How many other under-achievers are on this Dream Team? It all goes to coaching.

Babin is the perfect example bust-to all pro-back to bust. What changed between the time he left the Eagles and came back? Only the coach.

Look at Brady’s game on Sunday. He was getting killed in the beginning of the game. Belichick called 11 plays featuring 9 runs and later went to the hurry up, voila! Brady’s making us look silly.

It’s all about the coaching, and in this case, also the treatment of players.

Jackson will never be an over-the-middle receiver, he weights 165 lbs. That’s not how he should be used very much. Why not send your QB on runs up the middle? If you do, he will soon be injured. What good does it do for Jackson to catch a pass over the middle and have his career ended? Does it do the team any good? He has to be used the right way.

How does Devon Hester have a $40 million contract while Jackson, a 3-time pro bowler get half a mil? They’re both specialty players, but Jackson contributes a lot more than Hester.

Yes, DJAX is small, probably afraid to get hit…he’ll probably be afraid to get hit, when he receives the type of money he wants! SO WHAT!! He is a difference maker, a GAME CHANGER! Bottom line!

Be careful what you wish for, when speaking of DJAX…he may be a smaller guy, but whoever they bring in to replace him, will have some big ass shoes to fill!!

drummerwinslow
November 29, 2011 10:38 am

How many people said Jackson would eventually get paid if just “played the good soldier?”

Well he played the good soldier, but he didn’t anticipate that it meant getting killed for real.

How many TDs would Jackson had scored if Vince Young hits him in stride, rather than under-throws. I’m thinking 6 or 7.

Everyone’s looking at the drops, but no one is looking at the missed TDs because balls were under-thrown.

The contract, among other things, has screwed up Jackson’s whole game, from punt returning to receiving, yet he’s still won a couple of games for us.

Again, you can’t keep blaming the car for it’s collision. Eventually, you have to see that it’s the operator who is at fault.

Is Nnamdi an all-pro? What happened? How about DRC? Asante?

Is Chaney a middle linebacker? Why was a “project MLB” drafted to play this year? How many games did we lose with “what’s his name” playing MLB? Who’s responsible for all this mess? It’s not DeSean Jackson. He’s a by-product of the mess.

Look at Tebow. I briefly saw him for the first time this week. The guy cannot throw the ball. Maybe he can to learn throw it, but right now, he can’t. Does that stop him from winning? HIS coaches accented his positives, changed the offense to suit HIS attributes, and again, voila! He’s enjoying some success — for how long is anybody’s guess. But if the coaches had stayed with their normal offense, Tebow wouldn’t have lasted 2 games.

It’s about the coaching.

drummerwinslow

drummerwinslow
November 29, 2011 10:45 am

What you said makes sense, but I somewhat disagree.

Jackson’s mere presence opens the field for everyone else. So, while I agree that he would be effective for 15-20 plays, I question whether everyone else would be as effective.

drummerwinslow
November 29, 2011 10:49 am

Still, all this noise about the 2 drops. What about the missed TDs because of under-thrown passes? To my recollection, Jackson caught at least 6 under-thrown passes which could have been TDs.

If he scores those TDs, what is being said right now?

DJax by himself – you can find several ‘speed’ burners to draw deep coverage – but mixed n with this group of rcvrs – he takes the pressure off of MacLin (who is your real #1) and Avant (my opinion one of the top 3 slot rcvrs) – with Cooper as a four – Clelek and HArbor at TE – that is a solid corp of rcvrs –

the question becomes (outside of the typical G Cobb rantings) is what is a deep threat decoy worth – and for all you “don’t send him over the middle’ folks – well hell – you want to ‘pay the man’ top money but then restrict what he can do -OK – another solid ‘football’ suggestion there from the crowd – so what is a ‘decoy’ non-#1 rcvr worth – top 5 money – top 10 money – top 15 money – Joe BAnner sucks ass and is cheap – OK – Joe Banner – you need to sign McCoy and Djax (remember when the colts let E JAmes walk because they could afford Harrison and James and Manning) – so for how much

and I totally disagree with those that state DJax has been ‘disrespected’ – there was a reason every team took a pass on him in the first round coming out of college – it was his attitude – missing meetings, fumbling punts after running backwards on the 6 yard line, dropping TD passes – and now he has HOF players calling him a chicken on TV….. Asante Samuel got a HUGE payday from the Eagles because he played out his contract and played out a year as a franchise tag player – then he got the huge payday –

hate to bring up a bad name from history – but this stroy reminds me of LJ Smith – all the talent in the world, always seemed to be right on the cusp of greatness – a drop here a drop there – then the last year of ‘I ain’t letting the contract thing bother me’

and the Chargers signed Vincent Jackson to a long term deal early this year –

drummerwinslow
November 29, 2011 10:52 am

Jackson was running past defenders like they were standing still. The only thing that needed to be done was to hit him in stride. Instead, he had to wait, play defender, take unnecessary hits, and miss scoring opportunities.

I didn’t know much about Young, but now that I’ve seen him play, I have question what Reid was thinking.

Reid knows he likes to throw the deep ball. So, why does he grab another QB with a weak arm. First Kolb, now Young.

If I hear the “Desean was disrespected” by the front office line again, I’m going to lose it. What a ridiculous statement. Of course I’m only hearing it from the guys on here who are fans of the “me first” attitudeguys on the team (most noteably Desean and Vick)

These are the guys who roam the sidelines scowling. The whole, “world is against me – I am so disrespected” attitude emblazoned across their faces. The FO disrespects me, the refs disrespect me, the fans disrespect me, the world disrespects me.”

These are the guys who must be removed from the team because their attitude is cancerous.

Oh…so Desean was “disrespected” because the team didn’t re-sign him. SO now he’s going to pout, act selfishly and play with no heart. Fantastic. A nice throwback to the players of yesterday who played their hearts out for peneauts. Talk about disrespect…they still played hard.

Desean is making $600K + endorsements (which I’m sure are hemmoraging due to his little punk-assed routine – whoops…didn’t think that through eh Desean?). He lives in a world most people dream of, yet he’s being ‘disrespected” Shut it. I’d rather have any of these guys over Desean and they’re all being “disrespected” too…though you wouldn’t know it from the way they’re playing.

Hakeem Nicks $575K
Gronkowski $405K
Jimmy Graham $405K
Ray Rice $555K
Matt Forte $555K
Aarian foster $525K
Maclin $685K
Harvin $685K
Mike Wallace (Pitt) $480K
Mike Williams TB $405K
Beanie Wells $622K
Mendenhall $612K

And on and on….I’d take any of those players (and many more) over the mini-man Desean.

Drummer – you ass – sometimes you just make it sooo easy to show you do in fact know ZERO except how to bitch _

What was Reid thinking (yet lets bring in Jeff Fischer to coach?)

lets see – start with high school –

Among the honors Young received in high school were:

being named Parade’s and Student Sports’ National Player of the Year after compiling 3,819 yards and 59 touchdowns (TD) as a senior, being named 2001 Texas 5A Offensive Player of the Year, designation as The Sporting News’s top high school prospect, and the Pete Dawkins Trophy in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Clearly the path to sucking – but wait there’s more –

College:In his All-America 2005 season, Young led the Longhorns to an 11–0 regular season record – Young reached a win/loss record as a starter of 30–2 – His .938 winning percentage as a starting quarterback ranks sixth best in Division I history – He was also #10 on ESPN/IBM’s list of the greatest college football players ever – the insanity!

And then the pros:
In his rookie season, Young was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and earned a roster spot on the AFC Pro Bowl team. In 2009, Young earned his second Pro Bowl Selection and was named Sporting News NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

ya you freaken ass clown – lets have an intelligent conversation – excuse yoursefl and find someone who can fill in for you – your mother, your sister – someone that can talk anything about football – what the hell was Andy Reid and the front office thinking finding a back up QB with a similar style to Vick …

Now the comment ‘weak arm’ – scouting reports out of college commented on his awkward release and his intelligence – but there had NEVER been a report of a lack of arm strength – He throws a decent spiral on short to intermediate tosses and has the arm strength to air the ball out on long routes – Young has enough arm strength to lay the ball out for the receiver to run under, but his long throws tend to hang – wait for this one here is the difference between someone who knows football and an idiot blogger like you drummer – Can fire the ball into tight areas, but when he attempts to go long, his passes hang up in the air, allowing the defense to settle under the ball to make the interception. Must do a better job of anticipating the receivers breaks on his deep tosses (too many times the receiver has to adjust to make the catch)

now by your own idiot comment – you frequently talk yourself into a corner – how many teams in the NFL have a QB with the arm to take advantage of Djax speed – oh…….. yeah – didn’t think of that now did you ass hat – Vince young is considered to have one of the strongest arms in the NFL – Vick, JaMarcus Russel (he aint round no more – you doing that Dank like JM?), campell, young cutler and stafford –

So it really had nothing to do with arm strength now does it?
