Flyers Prospect Noebels Helps Germany Make 2013 WJC Tournament

The Flyers organization does not have any prospects that will be in the line-up for any of the countries represented in the 2012 World Juniors Championship Tournament in Alberta.  They weren’t completely unrepresented though, as Marcel Noebels, drafted #118 overall in the 4th round this past year, participated recently in the Division 1A tournament for Team Germany.

Thanks in part to Noebels, Germany won their division and was promoted to the 2013 WJC Tournament in Russia.

Noebels, who signed an entry level contract this summer, is having a relatively pedestrian year with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL.  With 9 goals and 20 points through 25 games, it is unlikely he will be able to match his offensive output in 2010-11. He is ranked, coincidentally enough, #118 overall in WHL scoring at the moment.

For what its worth, Flyers prospect Brendan Ranford is ranked 18th overall.

The tournament was a different animal, though.  Germany went undefeated through five games against Belarus, Norway, Slovenia, Austria and Great Britain.  Noebels tallied 4 goals and 9 points, making him the 4th leading scorer in the tournament. Tobias Rieder, a prospect for the Edmonton Oilers, finished 1st with 5 goals and 14 points.

Unfortunately for Noebels, he will be too old to participate in the WJC Tournament next year. He may have better goals to aim for, though, as there is a chance he will be with the Adirondack Phantoms next fall.
