Could The Sixers Be On The Verge Of Winning A Division Title?

How about my boy, Evan Turner! My “man-crush” is in full effect right now. He just brings a whole new element to this team. Relax, Joe. It has only been couple a games bro, but they are averaging 101.5 points a game with him in the starting lineup. If Turner can kept this up he really does make this Sixers team a whole different animal.

Teams will nervous be playing this team in the playoffs with their physical play and never say die attitude to go with the continuing development (hopefully) of Turner. Turner has made this team a better half-court team. They also have been getting to line more as well with him in lineup. This should be a fun ride.

In which brings me to my main point. It seems as if the Sixers might have the Atlantic division rapped up. The Sixers hit a wall there for about a week or two going 2-8 in that time period. They have seemed to work them selves out of it. With impressive wins over the Celtics, Knicks and the Utah. The Celtics had their full team together even though the played the night before the still Sixers blew them out.

The Jazz are a decent young team but they make your work for everything you get on the court. Well, the Knicks are a hot mess but still won in MSG. I will take that any day. So I did some research to see who the Knicks have left on their schedule and Boston as well. The Knicks 18-24 have 24 games left and half of them are home.

Out of the 24 games the Knicks play 12 that are .500 or better. Boston has 25 games left and 15 of them games are against teams that are .500 or better. They also only have 9 homes games left as well. Sixers have 24 games with half of them being against teams that are .500 or better. They also like Boston only have 9 home games left.

The Knicks are just a flat-out mess right now. They have ZERO chemistry. “Linsanity’, seems like it was ten years ago now since the return of Melo from injury. The Knicks are 10-23 when Carmelo is the lineup for them. Yikes…Some much for him being the chosen “one” up at MSG.

Boston is a little different story. I said this before, in this shorten season it would bring out their age at times. They can still show glimpses of the championship team they used to be. They can just not do it every night like they use too. That is why you heard reports of them maybe breaking that team up at the deadline. So with that said seems like it might be the first time since 2000-01 season that Sixers could win the division. Just saying….

I still would like to see the Sixers trade Vucovijch and maybe Lou Williams or Thad Young to the Magic for Dwight Howard. Howard is one the few “Star” players that would be able to come in and gel quickly with this squad just because of how hard he plays on defense.

Joe I respect your articles in more ways than you can imagine but I cannot count the Knicks out of contention. When you have Melo and Amare and the non goofy Jeremy Lin. I just find it hard to believe that the Knicks will not make a late push for the division. Now that D’antoni reigned I think it will help the Knicks and Melo and Amare to be what they came to NY for.

Yeah diddy ET is ballin out and i been telling people not to expect him to slow down because this is his game, also he has very fresh legs since he hasnt started all year long, he definitely has a leg up on the competition.. Rough game tonight, my prediction was accurate its just i should have switched the teams smh.. the pacers are a good team but were better. Spencer hawes should have been sat out for 2 more games bc they couldnt afford to lose tonight or friday against the heat. Lets hope the sixers come out with revenge on there minds friday night against the heat for they really gave them a beating the last time they played..

JH, Turner looks pretty damn good with the change. You was finally right about something. I know it’s only a hand full of games, but I seem to have been mistaken about him. He seems to be playing with confidence & swagger, that he hadn’t shown prior to the move. Let’s just hope for the Sixers sake, that he can keep it up, because Jrue seems to have taken a bit of a regression this year. Although he scored 17 last night, he still is playing shaky & is a TO machine, & doesn’t get enough assists for a good PG.

March 15, 2012 4:41 am

Dcar, kudos for admitting that things seem to suggest you may have been mistaken. Do you, or anyone else, think that we can think of jrue as another sg? He’s not a bad scorer, and really just by reversing their titles, that fixes the guard situation. Jrue still needs to fix his shit soon and continue to Improve (can he vote or drink yet? Has he even hit puberty?). But I think it can work.

Sixers beat by a good Pacer Team who they could see in the Playoffs and don’t match up very well with.. Sixer Guards had a difficult time guarding Pacers Guard George Hill… Sixers Guard E Turner with another strong game on the offensive end.

To add size, depth and scoring the Sixers acquire Sam Young of the Memphis Grizzlies. A good solid player.. i dont have the trade details but will soon..

Jon Hart

March 15, 2012 12:42 pm

The sixers gave up the rights to Ricky Sanchez.. they didnt give up much of anything for a guy that plays bigger than what he is. Very talented player. A guy i liked since his college days at Pitt as a Panther… Great deal by Rod Thorn. You guys are gonna love him..

schiller

March 15, 2012 12:53 pm

I frickin loved Sam Young at Pitt – I was a student there during his playing days. He was a smart, heady clutch player. Great move. Real quality thing. Jhart – I think I saw that this is the final year of his contract, but he’ll be restricted FA. That sound right to you? I just would hate for him to only be a half season rental – so psyched to have him. He’s a role player, but a serious quality one at that.

Jon Hart
Jon Hart
March 15, 2012 1:08 pm

That is correct Schill. He recieved a 3 year $2,658.000 from the Grizzlies. And yes after this year hes a RFA so if the sixers decide no to give him a contract thats another almost 3m off the books. I say resign him, hes only 26 and still has alot of ball left in him.

There most likely going to amnesty brand and they have nociono huge contract coming off the books after this year so the sixers are in a really good spot. This could allow them to not only sign a FA after this year (even though there arent many going to be available) but they could even make a trade to bring in a superstar with a big contract.. so time will tell

paulman
paulman
March 15, 2012 1:39 pm

Good move and I always liked Sam Young when he was at Pitt also on those great teams PItt had a few years back.
The only downside I see is that this is another player on the roster who plays away from the basket and is not much of a post prescense or a major rebounder, which is what they really need.. But Sam Young is great passer, a nice team player who moves really well and I would like to see them keep him moving forward and move some of these other players (Brand/Iggy/Nocioni after the 2012 Season)

Jon Hart
Jon Hart
March 15, 2012 2:12 pm

Sam Young can do whatever you ask him to. If you want scoring, he can do that, if you want defense he can certainly do that. If you want rebounding, he can do that to. This is a tough nosed guy that really gets after it on both ends. Hes had some big games against us in the past. And i ll be honest with you he looked better in the starting lineup over rudy gay last year.. good player to have on your roster.

paulman
paulman
March 15, 2012 2:41 pm

I like him no doubt, But the Sixers Roster is filled with players who play 10-15-20 feet from the basket.. (give me 1-2 some natural inside players beside Thad Young who can bump, grind and block shots, alter shots and play with their back to the rim once in a while… the Sixers really don’t have one … (maybe Brand when he was in his prime and heck, even Hawes likes the outside and plays away from the basket 1/2 the time)

Jon Hart
Jon Hart
March 15, 2012 2:59 pm

There really arent many pure post up guys in the league anymore. Chris kaman maybe but i believe the hornets took him off the trading block. There really wasnt anyone available for the sixers to go get. I think with this addition of sam young itll allow the sixers to have a perimeter defender on the court at all times. Once iggy sits here comes sam. Imagine the intensity they both will apply to premier guards in the east once the playoffs start. They both can guard SGs and SF. Good acquisition … have you guys been keeping track of maurice speights since being traded to the grizzlies? This bum had 25pts 10rebs and like 5assists the other night not the firat time hes had stats like that since being dealt. Is he serious? What the heck was he doing while he was here? That kind of stuff pisses me off

paulman
paulman
March 15, 2012 3:39 pm

Your right about that.. not many post players, the game has changed to a perimter game.. The 76ers had big problems truying to guard one of my favorite under-the-radar players last evening (George Hill), when he gets hot, he can takeover a game.. It was Hill and Turnoer show there for a while .. But Sixers D could not make any stops as the Pacers pulled away.. The Pacers and 76ers could play 100 games against each other and it would be a 50/50 Split.. Both teams are young for the most part, they have size and rebvounding advnatage nad 76ers have Guard and athleticism advantage but 2 evenly matched teams

You think Phil Jackson wants to coach Jrue Holiday and Jodie Meeks? bro seriously? you can honestly sit up there with a straight face and boldly admit that the current sixers roster is better than the current Knicks roster? What a great night…just got back from my MMA training….let me see what is going on with GCobb…..ES, are you at it again??

Look, it is easy to see that you are a front running maggot who is DYING for attention. I understand…..you have an inadequate feeling because of the long hours that your mother left you alone in the apartment to go upstairs and service the other men of the tenament building…look, don’t hold it against her, she did all she could to pay the rent and put food into your fat little mouth. The fact that she left you alone with all of those brothers and sisters who look nothing like you…..forgive her man. It is obvious that you have found a place that will give you the attention that she never gave you….now…..the problem that I have is the way that you are attracted to young boys. That is un-natural and once they finnally put you away and you become someone’s bitch…then maybe you will understand the harm that you have done. Just because mama didn’t love you doesn’t mean that we want you coming on here thinking we are just going to let you get away with acting like a maggot. We are not….you are a loser……Yankees?? Why am I not suprised? The Knicks haven’t won anything since what…the ’60’s? Notice you don’t mention the NETS or METS either….how about those Jets?

Just to re-cap….you are a pathetic loser who clearly has issues. I wouldn’t doubt that you are dressed in drag while you type all of your tough words MR. ES. I figure I won’t see a response for a while because you are busy attending your latest Man-Boy Love Association meeting…..congratulations on being elected “Perv of the Year”…I am sure mom is proud!!

If we can somehow get a pure shooter and a half decent big man this offseason, we can still continue to improve next year and with our quality youth, we have plenty of time to pick the right spot to add the right superstar.
