Rollins Expects Ryan Howard To Miss At Least Two Months Or More

Jimmy Rollins didn’t mince words when talking to ESPN Jayson Stark about the rehabilitation of Ryan Howard.

“I don’t know what to think, honestly,” Rollins told the ESPN baseball reporter. “If you ask me, with this infection, I don’t know if he’s going to play this year, because after all the work that he’s done, now he’s got to hit the reset button.”

Rollins continued and made some good points which could mean the Phils will have to play without the big man for most of the season.
“I mean, the leg is naturally going to atrophy if it’s in a boot all this time and you’re not getting the full use out of it,” Rollins said. “So he’s built up strength, but it’s not like he was 100 percent [before]. Now he needs to take a step back, and he’s probably back down to the 25 to 40 percent range . . .”And it’s a tough injury,” Rollins said. “It’s not like he’s 150 pounds. He’s a big man. And that’s a very important part of his game, being able to be on his legs. He doesn’t use his legs for speed like me. He uses his legs for power. So if he doesn’t have any [strength in his] legs, all that power just goes away.

“Oh, he’s definitely out for 2 months. I can pretty much guarantee you that,” Rollins said. “And probably nothing before the All-Star break, unless it’s like Albert Pujols’ fracture [which healed in 2 weeks last summer].”

No surpirse, the original diagnoses for recovery was mid-summer by most reports and I think everyone jumped the gun a little when it was reported in Early Febuary that he was ahead of schedule.. No sense in rushing the recovery/rehabb process.. he needs to take it easy and get the inury 100% healed before getting back into baseball shape…
What’s th word on 2B Chase Utley, can he play baseball any longer.. It appears that the bone mass in his knees are just deteriorating rapidly.. this may be his final season which is a shame.. but his bottom half is just falling apart and then you have to over-compensate with other areas of your body which in turn effects your obliques, hip and back areas..

Paul, I have a bad feeling, that it’s going to be a long summer. We will be blessed to get a half of a solid season from Howard. Also, I was told, by a legitimate source, that Utley’s hip & knee are bothering him again. They are trying to hide it, again. He is a cooked ballpayer. Amaro did a real piss poor job this off-season. Instead o wasting $$$ on Papelbon, Nix, Wigginton, Thome & the rest of the roster has-beens he signed, he could have signed Aramis Ramirez, Heath Bell, & Cuddyer, with $$$ left to spare. We have a flawed, ancient team, with no power. If we are going to depend on our pitching staff, to give up 2 or less runs per game, like we did the 1st half of last year, with this lineup, it’s going to be a long summer. I hope I’m wrong, because I can’t go this summer with my boys sucking. Especially after what the Birds did to us!

I think many fans are in for a rude awakening about how anemic this Phillie Line-up and Offense production this line-up appears to be. Your right DCar, the Starting Pitching will have to carry the Team and hope not to be burned out by September.. I think it’s fair to say the Hallady/Lee (for as great as they have been) have probably peaked athletically and will probably slip a little bit as Cole Hamels becomes the True Ace of the Staff… The Scary thing is the reast of the NL East (outside of Mets) have all improved..The Braves,Nats & Marlins all improved and have younger, hungrier players mixed in with Veterans.. the Phils on the other hand have an old everyday line-up (minus Pence) and the bench with J Thome, Whittington,Nix, Pierre, Schneider.. are you kidding me sound like a Bocci Ball League down off a 9th Street Park.. .. I was calling for 3B Aramis Ramirez, slide Polanco to 2B for 1 Season and get a LF (Carlos Quentin, Adam Jones or someone ) and trade Utley while he may still ahve Value.. We will be sitting here 6 months from now saying this Phils team has won over 500 Ball Games the last 5 Seasons and only has 1 World Championship to show for it,… what a blown opportunity for greatness this Franchise coulda, shoulda, woulda had when we look back years from noww.. I guess it could be worse, we could be fans of the Pirates or Royals instead..
