Mychal Kendricks Could Be In Position To Start

Eagles second round draft pick Mychal Kendricks was making plays at again today, as the Birds rookies had their last practice during this year’s rookie camp.  The five workouts give the team’s rookies a chance to familiarize themselves with the Eagles offensive and defensive systems.

Kendricks used his speed and quickness to cut underneath a couple of routes by a couple of the rookie running backs.  The second round linebacker was in man-to-man coverage on the plays, he recognized the routes, cut underneath them, then launched himself in the air, so he could knock down the passes.

The young man has shown very clearly in the five workouts that he’s quite an athlete.  We had to ask Eagles head coach Andy Reid about him when the workout finished.

“We’re going to have a staff meeting here, we’re going to go over all that stuff, but I’m going to tell you he looked good out here,” Reid said about Kendricks. “He made a lot of plays and got his hands on the ball. We just got to see where he gets the most reps and normally that’s with the ones.”

I can tell you right now that it’s going to be very difficult to get Kendricks off the field on third downs because he has the speed and quickness of a defensive back, but the size and tackling ability of a linebacker.

Kendricks will be battling veteran linebacker Jamar Chaney, who won’t be able to participate in the upcoming spring workouts.  He won’t be able to get back to action until training camp.  That could open the door for Kendricks and make it nearly impossible for Chaney to win his job back.

Kendricks has a much higher football I.Q. than former Eagles linebacker Ernie Sims.  He’s far ahead of Sims right now because someone has educated him on the importance of mental preparation for the NFL game.  You’ve got to do more than just run and tackle in the NFL.  A good linebacker has have a good idea what the opposing offense is trying to do to him.

The Birds were working on nickel offenses and defenses today in their seven-on-seven workout.  Previously they worked on first and second down situations.

Looks like a young London Fletcher to me. I remember when he was in St Louis. He was making plays all over the field for the rams and he was a rookie that year. With Demco Ryans showing him some tricks of the trade I see him starting for us day one. His speed and quickness is something you can’t teach. Misdirection plays will be what kills this core of backer’s. I think Andy and Howie got a themselves another playmaker from Cal.

@host, I hope you right this defense could use a guy like that. He probably is more athletic than London was coming out. I can’t say for sure, but I don’t think london was running 4.4.

This report is pure joy to read…

I just hope that Crystal Ball Andy does not switch him to Nose Tackle.

PFT reports Jason Peters fell in his kitchen and re-ruptured his Achilles tendon. He is going to have to have it repaired again.

I just read that. Does not bode well for his career. At all.

I read it also on Peters making any hope of returning in 2012 probably off the Table..A smart move by Eagles Drafting OT Kelley in 5th Round to develop him behind Demetress Bell who has a pretty good chance to solidify himeself as a long-term LT Starter if he learns the system quickly and plays well in 2012..

With this kids versatility look for the Eagles to get really creative on defense. With the athleticism that he and Chaney bring along with Ryans in the middle look for teams having trouble converting 3rd and long against this team. What a difference a year makes. This LB core could be one of the best in the league after being one of the worst just a year ago.

Actually, CSN just said he did it a few weeks ago, and it is already repaired, again. I cannot imagine he has any shot to get in a game in 2012. Just shut it down, rehab hard, and see where you are next summer.

Joe Friday ouch – good info on Jason Peters, I think Jason Peters is worth 7 points a game so hopefully Mike Vick’s ball protection (turnovers) will make up for the loss of the big guy

Kendricks lack of size scares me but even at his worst he is still better then the below average play the birds got last year from their LBs. Schiller said it best, he was the best option at lb in the 2nd round so lets give him a chance

Could be in a position to start!? HE BETTER BE IN A POSITION TO START! I don’t want to hear that crap. He’s a stud & needs to step right in. Plus there were a few better option for the SAM, still there at the time (Wagner/ David), so I don’t want to hear any freaking excuses now, because he is short & changing positions. He was drafted in the 2nd, so he better be starting. Dude is smart, fast & guess what, he can hit & tackle. Bad title GCobb. If we didn’t read the article, you would of thought that you weren’t sure if he should start. He will start & I’m going to GUARANTEE that he will be the best we’ve had in Reid’s tenure at OLB.

Kendricks is no comparison to SIms who was not the brightest bulb in the room.. Sims issues with picking up schemes, play recognition has followe dhom from Collehe where he was abale to rely on his athleticism to still make plays. .This stopped for Sims once he got to the NFL Level and remains with him to this day.. H e sstruggled again last year with the Colts and couldn’t keep his starting job due to his lack of discipline, Eagles were hoping to catch lightning in a bottle for Sims and only cost them a 5th Round Pick I believe so no real harm done, it was the Philly local media who over-hyled him to begin with..

paulman, you talk as though you read ernie sims psych profile, what the hell do you know about anything but able to string a few competent words together, make up some stuff, study what others have reported about players, have you ever witnessed true athleticism, what is behind a 90 mph fastball, why is it you can only throw 45 mph, being generous here, how can a 250 pound man run sub 4.5 forty while his head never bobs above an 1/8 inch, answer these questions paulman, fraudman

Sims was a fraud player from the get go, I have followed Sims from Colelge to the NFL and he got worse as a play becuase he is undisiplined and not football smart.. back to the article, Kendricks is nothing like Sims, Kendricks is very bright, can play multiple positions and play in pass coverages, tackle and rush the QB.. No comparision between the 2 besides the position that they play…
