Eagles Sign LeSean McCoy To A Five-Year Extension For $45 Million

It’s a done deal and everybody is smiling.  The Birds will have LeSean McCoy’s services under their control for the next five years. The Eagles signed their Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy to a five-year extension in the neighborhood of $45 million.

“After the season, me and my agents and family thought that there was a possibility that I could get a deal done”, McCoy said. “I love this team, and I’m kind of a hometown kid from Harrisburg which is like an hour and a half away. Nothing could be better than being here for the long term. Once you kind of realize the feeling of wanting to be here for the long term, we contacted the team and it was a mutual feeling. So, it kicked off from there.”

“We are excited to continue this offseason of taking care of our own players,” said head coach Andy Reid. “LeSean is one of the most electrifying running backs in the National Football League. He can do it all – run, catch, block and score touchdowns from anywhere on the field. He’s worked extremely hard to turn himself into a Pro Bowl running back and he is well deserving of this contract extension. I give a lot of credit to Howie Roseman and Drew Rosenhaus for hammering out this deal.”

“Andy Reid really wanted to see LeSean stay with the Eagles,” Rosenhaus told Philly.com last night. “When we were working on this deal Coach Reid was sitting in on the meeting. It wasn’t so much that he was taking sides, he just wanted to see it get done.”

McCoy has been everything the Eagles wanted and more when they drafted him in the 2nd round in 2009.  The young running back has played in 46 games so and produced 4,241 scrimmage yards (3,026 rushing; 1,215 receiving) and 33 total touchdowns (28 rushing; 5 receiving).

He possesses the highest rushing average (4.8) ever by an Eagles running back, and has gained more rushing and yards from scrimmage in his first three seasons than any player in franchise history.

After his Pro Bowl 2011 season, McCoy is considered one of the best running backs in the NFL and rightfully so. The kid makes things happen when you put the ball in his hands.  He has a tremendous feel for getting into the end zone.

CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP!!!! There shouldn’t be any more complaints about the front office now, after the off-season they are having. You can’t call them shekel hoarders, or cheap anymore, especially after the last 2 off-seasons. On the field is another story. They have everything in place now, so if they still can’t get it done, Reid & his merry men, need to be broomed immediately. Period, end of story.

No more excuses from anybody now. Everything, but a vet SS is in place. If they don’t win this year, a house cleaning needs to happen. No ifs &’s or buts about it. Win, or go home. The staff is on the hot seat. Times yours Andy, not ours.

Congrats to RB McCoy for a great deal fo rhim and his family..Hopefully he continues to work hard and remain healthy.. He could go down as one of the best RB’s in Eagle History and put up some big career #’s ..He’s a good guy who is not afraid to put the work in and it has paid off big time for him and the Eagles (and us fans too) Now with some othe ryoung promising RB’s in Camp, it would be nice if Coach AR/MM spread the ball around a little more to keep help keep McCoy fresher for later in the season and towards the end of games which will help him extend his career… A pretty good 2nd Round pick that McCoy turned out to be , wouldn’t everyone say..

You mean we can just talk about football during camp and the season rather than a contract dispute? Sounds good to me. Great job by the front office to take care of their own this off season. Add to that the strong draft and the trade for Ryans… looking forward to this season.

Looks like Bell is ready to choose between the Birds and the Jets.

paulman

May 18, 2012 10:06 am

Bell would be a nic addition to the Safety Corps and obvioulsly has a great relatinship with Sec/Coach T Bowles so he would hit the ground running and be a nice mentor to the younger players.. Bell and Allen wouls make a nice Starting Tandem with Coleman/Jarrett batltling it out as the #3 Safety and playing Special Teams..
I like the Jarrett kid for he seems like a hard-working, smart and good kid, but he just seems too small and a little on the slow side to me to be able to be a True Starter in the NFL.. Hopefully he will make a nice step forward this year and has bulked up.. but at 5’10 1/2 and 190-195lbslbs.. I am not sure he has to frame to bulk up much.. If bell does sign, someone else has to take that “Gunner” role on Special Teams that Colt Anderson has done the last 1 1/2 Seasons for they can’t afford to carry 5 Safeties on this Roster and Anderson is recovering from a nasty late season Knee Injury..

I like Bell in exactly the way you described him. He can come in and mentor the young safeties for the next season or 2. In that time, the others will prove themselves or they can look for someone else.

Dead on about Jarrett.

from bleeding green nation jeff macclane – talk about going from a young team to a young team with veteran leaders on D….

Will we being seeing the 2nd Rosenhaus client get a contract from the Eagles in 24 hours? Jeff McLane is reporting that the Eagles are “serious players” to sign veteran Dolphins safety Yeremiah Bell. He is reportedly narrowed his decision to down to the Eagles and Jets.

Obviously money will be a factor, but the Eagles have Bell’s former secondary coach Todd Bowles here while the Jets are his Dolphins’ biggest traditional rival.

We talked about Bell yesterday, but the general idea is that he would provide some short term veteran help at free safety. He led the Dolphins in tackles in both 08 and 09 and racked up over 100 stops last season. He is 34 however, so signing him would not necessarily be a long term vote of no confidence in guys like Kurt Coleman & Jaiquwan Jarrett.

Bell was also seen as the Dolphins leader on defense, so along with DeMeco Ryans the Eagles will have significantly upped their vet experience level should they bring him in.

I sense they way this off-season is going, with the heavy involvement of Coach AR in helping to re-sign key core players like McCoy, D-Jax, Mathis, T Cole and Herremans, that Coach AR will be signing a 3 Year Extension and probably over the 4th of July Holidays when people are busy vactationing, summer activites and not playing as much attention to their Football team,etc,etc..
I am going on record that this will occur sooner than many think and will happen before Camp Time… Coach AR;’s staff are presently signed thru 2012 and Ar is signed thru 2013, Besides Player Distractions about Contracts, you also have Coach’s Distractions about Contracts.. Look to the Eagles to extend AR who in turn can offer extensions to his Staff which I am ok with .. …

Navy, looks like you & I are getting our wish. We’ve been touting him since his release. My off-season checklist-
1 Have a good draft- Check.
2 Get Cox, Curry, LB, QB, Boykin with 1st 5 picks- all Checks.
3 Get at least 2 good starting lb’s- Checks.
4 Re-sign all quality FA’s- Check.
5 Extend Shady- Check.
6 Add at least 2 quality Vets, for leadership- Checks.
7 Add back up Rb’s & good, big redzone target- Check.
8 Add return men- Check.
9 Fire entire coaching staff- WELL NOBODY IS PERFECT, OR GETS EVERYTHING.
In all seriousness, if Peters didn’t get hurt, this would have been a perfect
off-season. Now they have to equate it on the field. If anyone complains now before the season starts, doesn’t have a clue.

Dcar – I hear ya brother – if we get Y Bell very solid off season..

E – I do not see them bringing in Plax at this time – two tall RCVRs – Plex I don’t hink can play special teams…

honestly – the best red zone targetr for the eagles is to just give the ball to McCoy on a strecth play and let him pick his way thorugh (17 rushing TDs)

I think you will see more Celek and Harbor next year – and give this McNutt guy a chance…

maybe – just at this point…

paulman

No to Plex, They are going to go with their current WR Corp.. I think Plex would be a distraction and not so sure how the Lockeroom and WR’s D-Jax.Maclin,Avant would take to him.. McNutt could be that Red-Zone Target

May 18, 2012 11:22 am

Rock, they didn’t draft McNutt to be the waterboy. They are going to utilize more double TE sets in the redzone too, this year. Also with all due respect, they ain’t wasting $$$ on Plax. He gives you nothing, but a 5-6 target & CAN’T/ WON’T play special teams. He is a luxury that doesn’t fit, & we DON’T need.

Navy, I give them an A-, only because they didn’t get rid of Reid. Other than that, I can’t complain. I’ll wait for in season for that. It’s do or die for him now. Everything is in place. No more excuses, if’s, &’s, or, buts. Get’er done, or Reid & Vick are history. I don’t think anyone can debate that now.

I am on the line between a B+ and A- waiting to see what happens with BEll – I wanted a veteran back-up RB (Addia, Tomlinson) and can see why they didn’t after R Brown………. but we have seen guys come from college and have to learn to block and pick up the blitz (Ryan Moats)….

I also like the addition of Bowles..

I really like the fact we have multiple returners…

I will be curious to see what they do with the FB position..

I guess this rookie QB completed 70% of his passes during the camp = also mathces the roughly 70% he completed in college…. 70% compeletion with a strong arm.. willing to check down.. take the 5 yards… just saying it bears watching..

The front office so smart, did you see the breakdown of that contract??? Was something like 20 something guaranteed, 8.5 million dollar signing bonus…. So about 30 mill guarenteed. And against the cap 2012….615k, 2013…..305, 2014 8 point something million……. 2015 10 million. Around that time they will be looking for someone new. Smart bastards.

also – I like Andy..he has made some bone headed moves – Juan, time mangement, time outs etc.. but he is a proven commodity in the NFL. If you fire him, he would have another job in a week. I think Bowles will moptivate Juan while adding some pressure to him. He knows if he dosent do the job, a more than capeable replacement is on the team.

schiller

May 18, 2012 2:39 pm

Frank – to Sanchez – NO. Here’s the thing, when you look to hire a guy for a positioni, you say, hmm how has he performed in the past, how does he do when he does this job. When you look at Sanchez you see poop, crap, shitty shitty horrible stuff. So a suggestion, if you are looking for guys to replace Vick, look at QBs who play football well. Just a suggestion.

And on Bowles – I hope the dude works out here. I hope he turns the secondary into a very good one if not great. But why do you say he’s a more than capable replacement? He’s not a coordinator and never has been. Sure, he was interim head coach for 3 games, and went 2-1, but the man has very little experience at anything but being a dbacks coach.

paulman

Bowles was former Dolphins DC Mike Nolan’s right hand man for the last few Seasons and per Dolphins sources contributed quite a bit with game-planning with Nolan for a Dolphin Defense that has played pretty well while Nolan & Bowles were there… I see him as a potential Candidate to be the next Eagles HC after 2013 ..

As far as SS J Bell signing with the Jets.. that’s ok with me, I it would have been nice but does it’s a possiblity that Sec/Coach Bowels didn’t really push for Bell to begin with if he sensed that his skills were declining or no much better that what Coleman/Jarrett can offer..

Bowles will be a head coach if it is not with the eagles it will be somwone else. He is lacking the experience but like Pman said he was a finalist for the head coaching job in miami. they decided to go with an offensice head coach in Philbin. I believe he was also high on andys list as a possible DC before he hired Juan. I dont think the dolphins let the eagles speak with him.

I dont disagree @ all. But I do think he is better than the way he has played. I know he has a resume in the pros withthe AFC champ games and things like that. I do realize that he rode the D and a running game. It;s a pivitol time in his career and he has the tools to turn it around, but will he?

Foles is ass…If the Eages are really trying to win it all this year they must calculate Vick getting injured during the season within the equation.

Sign McNabb to back up Vick for insurance…McNabb lobbied to help Vick back into the game…McNabb pulled Reid and this organization out of some tough times…so appreciate his contribution by signing him to a low backup deal.

If Vick gets injured with these backups along with Juan Castinko as Defensive coordinator you can write off this season.
