Eagles Sign LeSean McCoy To A Five-Year Extension For $45 Million

It’s a done deal and everybody is smiling.  The Birds will have LeSean McCoy’s services under their control for the next five years. The Eagles signed their Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy to a five-year extension in the neighborhood of $45 million.

“After the season, me and my agents and family thought that there was a possibility that I could get a deal done”, McCoy said. “I love this team, and I’m kind of a hometown kid from Harrisburg which is like an hour and a half away. Nothing could be better than being here for the long term. Once you kind of realize the feeling of wanting to be here for the long term, we contacted the team and it was a mutual feeling. So, it kicked off from there.”

“We are excited to continue this offseason of taking care of our own players,” said head coach Andy Reid. “LeSean is one of the most electrifying running backs in the National Football League. He can do it all – run, catch, block and score touchdowns from anywhere on the field. He’s worked extremely hard to turn himself into a Pro Bowl running back and he is well deserving of this contract extension. I give a lot of credit to Howie Roseman and Drew Rosenhaus for hammering out this deal.”

“Andy Reid really wanted to see LeSean stay with the Eagles,” Rosenhaus told Philly.com last night. “When we were working on this deal Coach Reid was sitting in on the meeting. It wasn’t so much that he was taking sides, he just wanted to see it get done.”

McCoy has been everything the Eagles wanted and more when they drafted him in the 2nd round in 2009.  The young running back has played in 46 games so and produced 4,241 scrimmage yards (3,026 rushing; 1,215 receiving) and 33 total touchdowns (28 rushing; 5 receiving).

He possesses the highest rushing average (4.8) ever by an Eagles running back, and has gained more rushing and yards from scrimmage in his first three seasons than any player in franchise history.

After his Pro Bowl 2011 season, McCoy is considered one of the best running backs in the NFL and rightfully so. The kid makes things happen when you put the ball in his hands.  He has a tremendous feel for getting into the end zone.

  1. I hear a couple of players may get extensions,
WR Maclin & CB DRC as well as Center Jason Kelce geting his Rookie Deal re-worked

  2. how about a safety?

I guess the Eagles will address it next season after it cost us this season….That will give this organization time to create a new blind spot.

  3. A friend of mine said that Mcnabb filled out a application at Rita Water ice last Wednesday. Maybe Mcnabb could be a Safety or Fullback?

    **Trade Alert**

Eagles trade QB Michael Vick and TE clay Harbor to the 1st place Philadelphia Soul for QB Dan Raudabaugh.

  4. Songs actually signing McNabb would be a sound move by the eagles. Even given his play since he left, I’d still take him over the bum hey fleeced Arizona for. Not to mention the pop warner crap sitting behind Vick now. And yes, not to address the safety position would be so Andyish. I want some veteran stability back there before the reg season starts.

  5. Stop living in the past with McNabb guys, he would be nothing but a distraction in the lockerroom.. This is Mike Vick’s Team the orgainization needs to support and get behind him 100% and not have him worrying about looking over his shoulder with McNabb around,.. If Mike Vick gets hurt and misses significant time, than the Eagles are going nowhere regardless, so what does it matter who the #2/#3 QB’s at this Point and the time to find out about Kafka nad Rookie FOles will be in their back-up Roles to see how they progress… Bringing McNabb would be the worst off-season move for the Eagles who are having a great off-season to date, so why ruin it with McNabb, makes no sense… .

  6. I dont want McNabb coming back here. The reason nobody else wants him is because he wants to start.. He wont help anybody or develop nothin..

We dont need him coming in here with that attitude.

McNabb was a great QB for us for alot of years, but the man is washed up and the last thing this team needs is him coming back..
