Andy Reid’s Agent Shows Up At Training Camp, But For What

Andy Reid’s agent, Bob LaMonte, showed up at training camp this weekend and didn’t like the way his appearance had been portrayed by the local media.  It was labeled as a powerplay and categorized as a way of pushing for a new contract extension for the Eagles head coach.

Lamonte denied that he had showed up to get Reid a contract extension.

The top agent for NFL coaches reiterated a Jeffrey Lurie statement, “as long as he’s the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles Andy Reid would be his coach.”  Reid’s agent says he didn’t bring up that statement in order to seek a new contract, but to simply to celebrate the 14-years Lurie and Reid had been together.

“You try to present something positive,” LaMonte said, “and that’s what you get.”  You really have to wonder why LaMonte came to the camp.

When Lurie was made aware of that quote, he seemed to back away from it.

“Bob is a great agent who we have an outstanding relationship with”, Lurie said. “As much respect as all of us have for Andy Reid, it is the nature of the profession that all coaches, executives and players are evaluated each year. That’s the way we have always operated. But our focus right now, and I know Andy feels the same way, is solely on the 2012 season.”

Translation, Reid will be evaluated at the end of the season and if he has a good year we may extend him, but if he has a bad year, we may say good-bye.

Coach AR and his Complete Staff will get 3 Year Extensions with AR getting a new 4 Year Deal
There is no way the Owner Jeff Lurie on his own (without Banner) is going to deny Coach AR’s and his Agent’s request.. AR leverage is probably at an All-Time High following the sympathy and support he has received from the Eagle Community and to be honest, he and his Agent will be using this to their full advantage, but AR is currently in his final season and no Coach wants to go into a season as a “Lame Duck: and potentially lose your locker room, Assistant Coaches and Staff Personnel who start looking elsewhere so this was something probably in the workds for a while but now the timing for Coach AR is very advantageous to him..
This is how Paulman sees it going down..

I don’t like the timing of this, Lurie makes an affectionate statement about his coach, and now the agent is trying to take advantage, and if Reid and/ or his agent attempt to “leverage” his son’s death for a deal , well that is about as low as it gets

timing is everything Jake, but Remember, what HC and especialyl one with the amount of Tenure wants to go into the 2012 Season with a lot of hope and promis with no long-term security.. His complete Staff are all working under their FInal Year of Contracts (except maybe Bowles) while AR’s is up after 2013 .. COah AR/his Agent and the EAgles Front Office were going to talk this SUmmer about a COntracat Extension regardless.. Recent events may haave moved up the time-table but no COach or Front Office want these type of negoitiatns going on during the Season so when else would they talk abou the future..

G, Lurie would be a fool to extend Reid without seeing what Reid ‘contructed” via coaches, player acquisitions, etc pans out. This franchise and fanbase -Reid’s son passing notwithstanding- deserve more than what we’ve gotten. Reid should still be on the hotseat. If he fails to deliver this year; Lurie has to go in another direction.

Remember guys that Lurie no longer has his sounding board in Joe Banner..
to bounce off Football Decisions and that Lurie also no longer has his wife Christy either.. So now when facing a big decision about the future of the Franchise, who does LUrie have to confide in … GM Howie.. I doubt it..
Coah AR has tremendous leverage right now regardless of what happened to his son Garrett.. I believe Lurie may sell the Club within 2 Years..

Sell the club within 2 yrs? No way Paulman. Just because he lost Banner and his wife doesn’t mean all hell is gonna break loose. Lurie wants to win the super bowl badly. He will keep chasing it before any of this selling crap ever takes place. Not gonna happen anytime soon.

I’d not ordinarily be upset with Lurie dumping Reid if Eagles don’t make playoffs or losing in first round….but Foles is the QB of future and he needs a stable coaching staff for next two years so he can solidify his NFL potential. If Vick stumbles during the year, and Foles does well in spot appearances, Lurie will demand Foles gets #1 next year. I don’t believe Lurie will keep team if he doesn’t see a Lombardi in his display case very soon. He wants a SB victory badly for the city.
