Nate Allen And Nmandi Asomugha Collide In The Air

The Eagles were playing Cover Two yesterday at practice when cornerback Nmandi Asomugha and safety Nate Allen had a full-speed collision which led to Asomugha being carted off the field and possibly suffering a concussion.is a two-deep zone coverage with both safeties having responsibility for a half of the field deep.

Michael Vick was looking deep and trying to look off one of the safeties.  Looking off a safety means looking to the right then throwing back to the left which is what Vick did.

Many times quarterbacks will try to get defenders to move by using their eyes to influence them.  Allen didn’t buy the look off by Vick and was in position to make the play.  He stayed on the deep left side of the field eventhough Vick had been looking to his right.

Asomugha was trying to help on the play by sinking deeper and deeper because no receivers were threatening him in the short outside or flat area to Vick’s left.  He thought he was getting ready to pick off a pass when he ran into Allen.

Rich Hofmann wrote a long, detailed article about the collision on Philly.com.  This is part of what happens in the defensive backfield because it’s not like baseball where one guy says “I got it” and everybody else clears away.

Sounds like he’s ok and manybe this will waken him up to start playign with a little more urgency and enevery from what I’ve seen this Camp and Pre-season so far.. A big Key to the Success of this Eagle Defense is the play of CB Asmo and he needs to step it up big time in my opinion for there are no more excuses that I want to hear from him or fans..Playing in a new Conference, New Scheme, New Secondary Coach, DC Juan Castillo excuses all fall on deaf ears to me,.. You can either play CB at a High-Level or you can’t and so far in his time as an Eagle, CB Asmo has been simply average or even below average in my opinion..

One safety won’t help Asomugha in Jarrett and plays too far away while the other in Nate Allen gets too close and busts his lip and rattles his head ——- at least Kurt Coleman is a real NFL player, not great but an Ohio State guy not a Temple or South Florida fool’s gold second round regret pick

@eagles0
Nate Allen is good but his knee injury set back his development. I really liked Kurt Coleman when he first played because he is such a hard-worker. So when the eagles drafted Jarret it pissed me off. They drafted a guy from a smaller school that played average competition to take Coleman’s job. Now my dream of a Allen/Coleman backfield is coming true. These two will make one of the better safety tandems in the league; they won’t be elite but they will solidify a position thats been weak since Dawk left.

I like this Tom Nelson as the 3rd Safety behind Allen/Coleman..
I don’t believer Jarrett makes the 53 Man ROster and also don’t beleive the
Atogwe is starting material any longer and since he doesn’t play Special Teams what do you do with the guy.. If you are not a Starter in the NFL, then you better be on SPecial Teams in some Capacity (unless you are back-up QB or RB)
On a side note, looks like former Eagles Greg Lloyd will get some major playing time with the Colts as their Starter Pat Angerer is out for 5-6 weeks and they really don’t have many indside LB’s on their Roster..
Also, Moises Fokou played well in their pre-season game ans has a chance to make the Colts Roster
RT Winston Justiice also held his own in blocking for QB A luck and was up against Chirs Long and ROber Quinn from the Rams and provided solid blocking for the Colts…
More news on Ex-Eagles.. DT Trevor Laws is hurt again for the Rams and has missed much of camp and their 1st Pre-season game and will be in jeopardy of not even making the Rams 53 Roster who Drafted DT Brokers and have some other young players who are contributing ..

Forgot about QB Kevin Kolb who was demoted to back-up QB for the Cardinals as phenom John Skelton has taken over as the #1 QB for the Cardinals
Kolb already received a $7 Million Roster BOnus which is the only reason why he is still on their Roster and will be the back-up and then get released after the 2012 Season…
