CSNPhilly.com’s Reuben Frank says the Eagles are interested in acquiring two Pro Bowl safeties, Dashon Goldson and Laron Landry, once free agency starts today. The Birds have some serious problems at the safety position and adding either Goldson or Landry would be a way of remedying the problem.
Goldson has played for the San Francisco 49ers his entire six-year career and is looking to cash in for a $8 million dollar per year salary. The Niners safety is adept at getting his hands on the football via interceptions, plus he will separate receivers from the football. Goldson has learned how to pull the football out when tackling ball carriers.
He would immediately force wide receivers to respect the Eagles secondary because he can bring the heat. Goldson will pound you. He’s an enforcer.
The same can be said about Landry. He’s one of the fastest safeties in the game and he delivers some lethal shots on his own right. The New York Jets safety is adept at blitzing and attacking ball carriers.
He’s looking for about $6 million dollars a year. One of the reasons he’s not asking for as much is because of two injury-plagued seasons he suffered in Washington. When healthy he’s an impact player in the secondary.
Right now, the Buccaneers and the Lions are considered the two top pursuers of Goldson. The Eagles have as much cap space as any team in the league, so the Birds can be very aggressive if that’s what they want to do.
The Safety class in this draft means most teams will not get too crazy and overspend in free agency. This should help the Eagles land a Safety or two in free agency – allowing them to concentrate on a CB in the draft.
I want one. I want one bad. Ill take Goldman first but will settle for option #2 if hes not there.
I wanted Landry last year. Lets go birds. get this done
Goldman? Is he a lawyer? It’s Goldson. LOL! They have the $$$$, sign them both. Nobody will dare go over the middle, then!
sorry…. thats really funny.
Hey Dcar did you see the stat that Goldson missed more tackles then Nate Allen last year? Was that because Allen was usually running away from contact. LOL
Sold – and add a third too
call it operation repair the 2nd round bust plan
Vikings CB Antoine Winfield was just released today. He’s 36, but has been a soild player his whole career and a good leader. Wouldn’t mind the Eagles signing him to a 2 yr contract
Nnamdi has been released. its official…Finally.
bang. I like it pheags.
Eagles released CB Nnamdi Asomugha.
It’s fascinating to examine where Asomugha ranks among the biggest free-agent busts in NFL history. He’s awfully high up there. Signed to a five-year, $60 million contract in 2011 that made him the league’s top-paid cornerback, Asomugha gave Philly one season of mediocre play and another of truly putrid performance. An easy burn victim in 2012, Asomugha came away with 55 tackles and one interception. Going on age 32, Asomugha’s recovery speed and confidence seem to have evaporated. There were rumors in Philadelphia that he’s also lost his passion for the game.
yea yea yea…we’ve beat the ish out of Nnamdi topic, nothing more to see here…
Now get Xavier Rhodes!
leave me alone weirdo. ur an illiterate cyber stalker and chase me around this site. ur a cook and nobody likes, cares or agrees with your opinion or your love of Vick.
