NFL Teams Are Monitoring Players On Facebook and Twitter

facebook_twitter3There’s something about the internet that makes people do and say stupid things.  There are more tough guys on the internet than exist in the world.  People are quicker to be forceful with their opinion on the internet as compared to in real life.

This is one of the reasons, the Eagles and other teams monitor what players say and post on their Facebook and Twitter pages.

“We have someone looking over Facebook pages, Twitter accounts – in front of us will come every single person on our draft board, their Twitter accounts and their Facebook accounts,” Eagles GM Howie Roseman said yesterday at the Nova Care Complex. “It’s important how they represent themselves in those settings. I think you see the process they go through, some of these players, they’ll tweet certain things, and then once the draft process starts all of a sudden they’ll shut it down or they’ll say something really positive. Those are discussions we want to have. Those are some of the players we want to spend extra time with and understand, get into their mind-set. What’s going to happen when they get drafted and get some money? That is part of the process now.”

Some players don’t realize that everything they do in front of the team whether it be in person or on a Facebook or Twitter page, is really a job interview.  If you wouldn’t sit there in front of the GM and head coach and say something stupid then don’t put it on your Facebook page or tweet it on your Twittter account.

“It’s a reflection on our organization, our ownership. We want to be sure we’re bringing the right people into the building”, Roseman said. “Most of these guys who do questionable things on Facebook or Twitter, they probably have done other questionable things.”

Both of these social media vehicles are dangerous because there’s very little that stops the player from making their opinion public during a moment of emotion.  Without social media they would likely let the anger pass without doing anything, but the availability of social media lets them tell the world how they feel immediately.  Once you post something on the internet, you can’t every take it back.

You have some players costing themselves millions of dollars because they couldn’t resist putting up or saying something stupid on a Facebook or Twitter page.  Now that is what I call stupid.

Sounds like going back to the “High Character Players” and not neccessairly the “Best Athlete Availalbe” mantra that has been consistent in Owner Lurie’s Ownership.. Which I am ok with , but Roseman for 3 Months is states, time and time again, we are going to get the Best Atlhletes Possible, which is not the True Story..but that’s Roseman for you.. talking out of both sides of his mouth..

My “impression” of the Eagles GM is that he is a paid fantasy football manager. I know that this is not reality, but remember the draft when he would make moves within the draft in mid to late rounds, drawing guffaws from almost all the analysts? How did those moves work out? The jump up to get Brandon Graham? etc. What do you want from a guy who never laced up a pair of football shoes, eh?? Eagles fans need to see more of the Fletcher Cox type of moves and stop being cutesy with projects (Danny Watkins come to mind?). Coach Kelly said he wants big mean people because they beat up small people. Let’s see if he puts his $$$ where his mouth is with this year’s selections. Free agency so far bears him out.

This is just good business practice. Colleges do with this players as well. I don’t think that FB and Twitter are directly proportional to how bad a reputation the player has.

Per Espn .. Reports are that University of Oregon is under Major NCAA Investigation for Multiple Infractions and that Big Penalities are on the way, which may have helped Chip Kelly decide a little easier and sooner to consider leaving College Football and hook on with the NFL before his Reputation gets tarnished.. Anyone else think that GM Roseman was fleeced again.. This GM Roseman just falls in love too fast with Players and Coaches.. He’s like a damn woman if you ask me….

I have inside sources telling me that a top level coach within the eagles organization has stealth spies disguised as walk on football players that will be installing stealth cameras and microphones in opposing teams film rooms.

19-0 baby here we come !!!!

Future is so bright I gotta wear shades.

Funny. Monitor those players, but hire a coach who was complicit in some NCAA violations.

Now we know for certain why Kelly jumped ship from Oregon.

Oh well, I guess it worked out for Carol….though I think he acts like a dick most of the time…his behaviour after that travesty of a victory – running down the field arms raised in triumph – was distasteful at best…..

I dunno….Kelly ran from the Ducks when the going got tough….will he do the same with the Birds?.

and why wouldnt you run when the going gets tough. chips status was at an all time high last 2 years and if sanctions were going to hinder his recruiting abilities and or bowl appearances why the hell wouldnt he jump ship at his peak ? it would be foolish not to.

kind of like a company getting audited, if you know the audit is gonna result in your business getting downsized or closed why not get ahead of the game and find a new job before you HAVE to?

Except for in this case, he is the cause of the “audit” and it is not as easy to get away if you break the rules where the govt has to audit you.

Just speaks to the character of the man which yes has nothing to do with football. Maybe a smart move on his part but still dastardly.

I think you are way off. Just because he was the coach does not mean he was at fault in whatever the investigation uncovered. I do not think it is safe to assume he was the cause of the audit and even if he were the cause why the hell would he not leave for greener pastures? Thats just a good business move.

2-3 Reports/Rumors flying around out there

#1) Owner Jeff Lurie Hired Ed Snider’s Henchman to dump Chip Kelly in the Delaware River with Cement Ice Skates on…
#2) Lurie has his “Legal Team” looking over their Contract with Kelly and about the language on Personal Integrity & High Character being part of the Deal to Pay him $6.5 Million per Season.. Now, Lurie Finds out that Kelly was lying the whole time whch means Lurie will get the Deal Nullified..
#3) A very good Chance that RB/TE Coach Ted Williams or OC Pat Shurmur to take over as HC on such short Notice..
#4) Lurie has also Shifted Howie Roseman’s Duties to handle the Luncheon Menu at the Novacare Complex as Tom Gamble becomes the Full-fledge GM of the Philadelphia Eagles and will oversee all Player Personnel/Scouting Depts..
