Notes From The Phillies’ 6-0 Loss To Cleveland

Cliff Lee, Carlos RuizThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their second straight game on Wednesday night, falling 6-0 to the Indians in Cleveland. Their record falls to 12-16.

  • It was just another all-around awful game from the Phillies. They got nothing from their offense. They got nothing from their pitching staff. The end result was another ugly loss.
  • Cliff Lee really let the team down tonight, putting the Phillies in a 4-0 hole after just three innings. Lee lasted just six innings, and allowed five runs (four earned) giving up nine hits and two walks.
  • Offensively, the lineup was just brutal. They did manage to work out seven walks, but they collected just three hits and went a miserable 0-10 with runners in scoring position.
  • Domonic Brown had two of the team’s three hits.
  • Ben Revere picked up the third hit, with a bloop single to left.
  • Altogether, the offense left 22 men on base tonight.
  • Jeremy Horst pitched the seventh inning, and allowed a run.
  • Phillippe Aumont pitched a scoreless eighth inning, striking out the side.

Final Thoughts

Cliff Lee was really disappointing tonight.

A night after watching Roy Halladay get shelled by this Cleveland lineup, the team really needed Lee to come up with a shutdown-effort and get things rolling back in the right direction again. Instead Lee came out and put his team in a big hole early, and they couldn’t recover.

It’s going to be up to Kyle Kendrick to play the role of “stopper” once again.

another bunt hit up the first base bag — Ryan Howard is the worst defensive first basemen in the league, just too slow.
Domonic Brown had a beautiful throw to home plate that Ruis dropped for 3rd out with lead to a big inning.

Lance Nix had a home run stealing over the fence catch yesterday, nice.

No I do not live alone, but I do enjoy amusing myself and the way all the Philly Teams are stinking up the joint and playing these days (Phils,FLyers & 76ers with lost Seasons) it’s about all a Philly Sports Fan can do…
I sense many Philly Fans are stilll in Denial about how wfar this Team has Fallen and believe most of you don’t see the big improvements across the board by many Teams in the NL which is no longer a 2-3 Team League as it was for a few Years.. There are 7-8 Legitimate Good Ball Clubs in the NL and the Phils are not one of them any longer and as soon as the Phils Front Office realizes, this and decides to get younger, hungrier and add more talented Players to their Roster, they will continue to wallow in mediocrity living off of past perfomances.. Time to Clean House with the Phils just as it was the Eagles who have begun the Process this Off-Season..

If the season continues this way.I think that they move Adams at the deadline. He will right the ship and people are always looking for back end bullpen help at the deadline.

Will they have any takers for Halladay? Not sure on that one.

Part of my morning Routine while having my Coffee & Cigarette’s and reading up on my Investment Portfolio’s ..
Believe It or not, I am working on my 2014 Eagles Mock Draft and should have the 1st one out by Friday.. This is what I do Jake since Hitting the Lottery a few Years back.. I watch my Investments grow and follow my Philly Sport Teams, even though they are all struggling right now, but at least I feel the Eagles are back on the path of rising up again..
The other 3 Teams are going to take a while for the Phils/Flyers continue to be in denial of how far behind they are versus their competition which is what happens when you have incompetent GM’s running the show..

If the phils are out of it at the trade deadline adams will command the biggest price because he has contract left and will help a team for multiple years. Phils would get a bunch of prospects in a fire sale for sure. Then they sign the $5billion TV deal and we become the angels, rangers, dodgers…. not sure i like that but….

Agreed HAC. Having a ton of money doesn’t always translate to success. You still have to have solid talent evaluation and decision making to build a team for sustained success.

bugs, but hac, has did nothing but defend Booben for 2 years, & argued with me ad nauseam, for correctly defining, his inept @$$ & what a $#!T job he’s done! How the tune is a changing!

Don’t discount moving Closer Papelbon…
Playoff Teams like the Tigers,Cardinals have Major Bullpen, Closer Issues and may trade some Top Prospects in Return for a Closer…
What’s the point of having a Strong Closer making big $$$ for a .500 Team.. May as well get Aumont or whomever else ready for that Role..

One thing I do know, they need to release Durbin immediately and replace him with a Young Arm from the Farm System , he’s been Terrible all Season long.. Horst should be close behind him as well

After this year, they need to purge this roster clean! I wouldn’t re-sign, any of the FA’s, including Chooch, Utley, Halladay, & both Youngs. They need to fire the dildo, that is our GM, so we can have someone, who is proactive, & with competence, to start laying groundwork, for Lee, Rollins, Papelstiff, Durbin, Brown-stain, & anybody else they can flush! I would even swallow a chunk of Howards contract, under the right circumstances (highly unlikely). Bring up Ruf, Ashe, Joseph, DeFratus, Stutes, Pettibone for good, Morgan, Martin, Diekman, & Hernandez, to see what we got. At the very least, we’ll get youth, effort, energy, excitement, & a give a f^#@ attitude, that these has-been’s & never-will-be’s are giving us!!!!! Clean house Montgomery! Step in Middleton, & start throw around your weight, with your Majority ownership! This is embarrassing, nauseating & unacceptable!!!!!

Rumor out there is the Phils Sending Chase Utley and a Pitcher from the Farm System to the LA Angels for OF Josh Hamilton that could be done by the weekend …
Utley returns to Southern California where he wants to finish his Career and
Hamiliton gets and needs a fresh start and get on a Team that wants him and needs him.. You heard it here first. ..

i still say it was stupid to break it up after 11– you have to ride your team out after they won all those games.

Not when you get knocked out of the 1st round, with a undisciplined, punchless, old, in decline team, you don’t! That’s the point, that you irrationally, fail to see, over & over again. Although we won over a 100 games, in 2011, anybody but Booben & his apologists, that had any Baseball acumen, seen this team needed many changes to the overpaid, has-been nucleus! Rollins should have never been re-signed, before that, Howard should have gotten that ill-advised, unwarranted contract, & Lee should have NEVER been traded the 1st time! Only 3, of the MANY huge gaffes, in Booben’s resume! He failed, & he’s failed miserably, & consistently! There is no argument! Every move/ hon-move, he’s made for 3 years now, has been horrific! The hazmat team, needs to be brought in, IMMEDIATELY!!!!

HAC, I am as much of an optimist as you are, but the current makeup of the team is extremely flawed. There is so much money tied up into players that are not producing either at the plate or in the field. If you put the best hitters in, then the defense suffers and then vice versa. It is looking more and more like Halladay may be done. I think it is time to get what they can get at the trade deadline and move forward. Can’t trade Lee and should trade Haemls, so you should have 2 solid SPs for the next couple of years. Kendrick has been rock solid this year. Then they need Pettibone, Morgan or Cloyd to step up. All the while Biddle could blow past them. They have some SPs on the farm. I would rather transition to up and comers now instead of guys that are hanging on for 10-20 mil per season. They have tough decisions to make on Chooch and Utley at the end of the season. Utley is a fan favorite and he is having a solid season, but I don’t think that they will want to pay him what he wants and he would be a natural DH. If Joseph develops, (big if), I could see them letting Chooch go too.

I don’t have as much venom for Ruben as DCAR does, but he did get the team into this mess and I don’t think that his win now mentality is what they need right now. They need to flip as many players at the deadline as they can including Halladay (maybe impossible), Adams, Delmon Young, Papelbon…

bugs, he’s too stubborn, irrational & prideful, to admit that he was wrong, & I was right the last 2 years. He’d rather call me a blowhard, a know-it-all, a non-fan, & a band-wagoner, instead admitting that I know WTF I’m talking about. Booben has taken a WS Champion, & regressed it every single year, while having an open check book, & added ZERO impact youth, to an old, in decline nucleus & added nothing but overpaid, unwarranted contracts, & stiffs. PERIOD!!!! He’s made dozens of horrific decisions, that anybody, in any other walks of life & careers, would have been axed, a LOOOOONG time ago!!!!

I agree that he is not the right GM for the job.

BTW- I was at CBP last night. What a night for baseball. That Marlins team is a disgrace.
Lineup-
1) Pierre
2) some dude
3) Polanco
4) Dobbs

Do I need to go any further?

Yikes
