Notes From The Phillies’ 14-2 Loss To Miami

Roy Halladay, Chad FairchildThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their second straight game, falling 14-2 to the Miami Marlins. Their record drops to 14-18.

  • For the second time in as many starts, Roy Halladay wasn’t up to the challenge, and doomed the Phillies for they even got their first at-bat. It took Halladay 37 pitches to get out of the first inning, and he allowed five runs to start the ballgame. His fastball averaged between 88-89 mph.
  • Halladay struggled heavily with his location, allowing three walks in the first inning alone and hitting a player with a pitch. He also surrendered a double to Marcel Ozuna and a triple to Adieny Hechavarria in he same frame.
  • In the third inning, Halladay began the inning by hitting the first batter he faced, then issued a walk, and allowed a single to load the bases. Two batters later, he gave up a grand-slam to Hechavarria.
  • Hechavarria entered the game hitting below .180 with just one home run and three RBI’s on the season. Facing Halladay today, he had a home run and seven RBI’s in just two at-bats.
  • Halladay was unable to make it out of the third inning today. His final line: 2.1 innings pitched, four hits, nine runs (all earned), four walks.
  • Ben Revere was one of the lone bright spots for the Phillies at the plate today. Revere drew two walks, and drove in a run with a single. (Though it should be noted that Revere’s run didn’t count as an RBI, as t came about because of a defensive error by the Marlins)
  • Freddy Galvis got the start at shortstop, and went 1-4 with an RBI.
  • After Halladay was pulled, Raul Valdes, Chad Durbin and Jeremy Horst allowed five runs over the final 6.2 innings.

Final Thoughts

It’s officially time to hit the panic button on Roy Halladay.

The Phillies have been patient through his struggles in Spring Training and the regular season, but after getting raked by the lowly Marlins, you really have to wonder about how much longer Halladay can last.

We’re only in the first week of May. There’s still five months of baseball ahead of us, and Halladay’s odds of having an effective start are going to get worse and worse as the season goes on. If he’s laboring now against a team like Miami that struggles to score more than a couple of runs in any given game, how’s he going to survive later in the summer when the weather really starts to get humid?

The Phillies had an opportunity to gain some ground on their division rivals this week with six games against the Indians and Marlins. They needed to win at least four of the six games, and instead went 2-4. Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee, and Roy Halladay started a combined four games this week, and the team couldn’t win any of them.

Soo gross losing 4 of 6 to Miami and Cleveland is as bad as it gets, these two teams wouldn’t have a winning record in AA. HalladAy durbin and Valdes is a are three gas cans unreal how awful they are. Roy can’t even give these guys a prayer to win anymore.

If u gamble bet over opponents team total over when doc pitches. It’s free money as is betting on yes run first inning when he pitches.

As I stated, DOC should have been kept in Florida at the break of camp and placed on the 45 Day DL List to begin the Season with the Hopes of a Strong return in June and maybe get 18-20 Good Quality Starts Fro him for the Playoff Push.. It’s Too late for that now..
This Team is what it is after a 1/5th of the Season Games have been played
They are a .500 Team and already in 9th/10Pkace in the Wild-Card versus their competitors.. The rest of the NL has gotten stronger and stronger while Phils have gotten older, less athketic and too many players of their core who are past their Primes.. I look for Nanuel to get fired (early as tonight) or by the end of this long upcoming West Coast Trip. There is no band-aid fix for this Team and as I have stated, the window is closed
Doc,Utley, Chooch,M Young, D Young, will all be gone after 2013 and some will possibly be traded for prospects come a trade Aline for these listed players are not in the Future.. Back end Relievers Adams & Papelbon could also be trade bait as Relievers are always in demand at the Trade-Deadline
You can’t say I didn’t see it coming, just thought they would be more competitive this Season..get some Youth, Energy, Athleticism and Passion back onto this Roster is GM Anaro’s Chalkenge and I am not sure he is up to the challenge….this is the result of the last 3 Omff-Seasons of simply making Band-Aid moves instead of looking long-term .. Good Luck Reuben

Roy Halladay is likely headed to the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury.
The exact severity of the injury isn’t yet known, but Halladay said that he’s been dealing with shoulder discomfort since his April 24 start against the Pirates. He’ll be examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum early this week before any decisions are made. Triple-A starters Adam Morgan and Tyler Cloyd are candidates to take his spot in the Phillies’ rotation.

The Phils have little chance on Contending for a Playoff Spot come 2013, which should be an interesting Trade Deadline come late June/Early July
I hope Reuben and Staff are checking these AAA/Minor League Prospects out from the various Teams who they may trade with …
Utley to Dodgers or Angels (if they get back into playoff hunt)
M Young to to Oakland A’s
J Papelbon to the Detroit Tigers
M Adams to the SL Cardinals
C Lee back to the Rangers
Doc back to the Blue Jays so he can retire with them

2nd Half of Season
Play Galvis at 2B, Fransden at 3B and whatever Propects (3B Ott from Rangers) Call up young Arms and thrown them out other
Next year Staff is Hamels, Kendrick’s and then wide open afterwards

Team is going to Struggle in the short-term, but that’s the way it goes when rebuilding, these band-aid off-Seasons have finally caught up with an aging Team..
Trading Pence was a panic move last year where they got little in return and need to do much better in getting good value in return

Morgan is not the candidate, throws 86-89 from left side, tops at 91, but straight fastball, average change, average stuff, I would call up Jesse biddle a young hoss, the future ace

Pence batting .270 5 HR’s 16 RBI’s which projects to his normal Averages
On 25 Hr’s, 80 RBI’s while playing 1/2 his games in a Pitchers Park in San Francisco. The Phils don’t get this production from any Current OF on their Roster and they journeyman 4th/5th OF Nick Sherholtz in return who is not even on the Roster, what a steal for the Giants that deal was

And meanwhile Brewers Yneil Bettancourt has 7 HR’s and 22 RBI’s who the Phils should have kept and can 2nd, 3rd, even SS or 1B and can Play both Corner OF Positions too.. Another bad call. By Amaro with his Roster Management and kept that Class 5 Option kid who is not a MLB Kevel Player at this stage..

Paul, where are the apologists at now, after they ripped & blasted you & I, for the last 3 years, for stating the obvious? We seen this all coming, & so did a lot of other realistic fans. If Montgomery doesn’t fire Booben soon, it’s going to start getting ugly. If they think fans aren’t coming now, wait util they’re 10 games out by the end of June! Fire that Inept POS GM, & let Proefrock take over. Start lopping off the fat, & trade Lee, Rollins, Utley, Papelstiff, Brown, & both Youngs, release Durbin, Horst, Valdes, & bring up, DeFratus, Stutes, Diekman, Savery, Martin, Morgan & Ashe, to see what we have. It’s over, & it’s time to rebuild now! They better do something productive, proactive & smart soon, or it could affect their upcoming, television rights, negotiations. Just saying! Fans ain’t stupid, & will only take so much, before they stop going. Booben should not be allowed, to make another decision, PERIOD! He has single handily, destroyed this team!

Your right DCar, the last 3 Off-Seasons under GM Anaro’s
Band-aid approach has backfired and left the Phils with a huge rebuilding job
How much longer does Anaro’s Contract run for?? Anyone know??

On November 3, 2008, just days after the Phillies paraded down Broad Street with their second World Series trophy, the team announced that Ruben Amaro Jr. would take over as General Manager from Pat Gillick. Amaro originally was given a three year contract, but he signed an extension in March 2011 for another 4 years.

Thans for Info though it’s not good news, Amaro will be around at least thru the 2014 Season.. Does he Purge the Teams big-Name Players who are no longer fits for the Phils long range plans and maybe get 1-2 Good Up & Coming promising MLB Ready-Players and then add 4-5 Good Prospects by Trading an C Utley, C Lee, M Young, D Young, M Adams & J Papelbon to Playoff Contending Teams looking for Veterans who can help them for their Playoff chances.. Relievers and Closers are always in demand as well as solid Hitters.. Phils could get some good Prospects back but need to do their Homework on these Younger Players..

utley b/c he is not under control after this year will not have major trade value although u could possibly rip someone off if they are desperate, angels?

young, young, adams and papelbom wont get u anything of significance

lee could but with a mega tv deal in the pipeline they may not just want to dump good players just to dump them

Relievers always have good Value.. and especially to Playoff Type of Teams that are having issues with their own Bullpens like the Detroit Tigers and St Louis Cardinals who are otherwise built to win now..

top value for a reliever would be a top 100 prospect that is 3 years away from the majors or a 5th outfielder. teams dont trade real players for relievers. they do for star position players who are under contract for years to come and do for starting pitchers. pap, utley adams all have similar trade value and all wont get you much.

For Closers like Papelbon or Coveted Set-Up Pitchers like Adams would return more than a 3 Year-Away Prospect
Pap is what 30 Years.. He has the Best Value along with Cliff Lee
while the other Players (Utley,Young’s,Chooch) will not return much
due to their age, aging bodies and health issues

mh, don’t remind me! That was the beginning of the end of this franchise. Montgomery is another moron, Penn grad, but a moron, nonetheless! Same as Snyder irrational loyalty, to a fault.

Utley, Ruiz, & both Youngs, are upcoming FA’s & should get us 4 decent prospects. Halladay also comes off the books. They need to do everything they can, to get good returns for Lee, Papelstiff, Rollins, & even Howard (pay part of contract). Then use some prospects, to get Stanton. Still young, under control, & on DL, so he won’t command as much, as prior. Call Texas, try the Lee for Olt, Profar trade again. Both are struggling this year. Dodgers & Giants may need a SS & closer. Detroit & STL, need a closer. ANY AL team for Howard, PLEASE!!!! But Booben MUST GO 1st! Proefrock, can do a much better job. He built those good TB teams, with NO payroll flexibility. Please God, enough, is enough.
