Lane Johnson, Zach Ertz And Matt Barkley Talk About The Speed Of Chip Kelly’s Practices

MattBarkley11Over and over the rookies talked about the speed of the practice under Chip Kelly.  They talked about how quickly the plays came in, were called and then run.

First round pick offensive tackle Lane Johnson said he felt good after the first workout, but needs to get in better shape and was amazed at the speed of the plays.  He took all his snaps at the right tackle position.  Despite having played in a no-huddle offense at times in college, Johnson said he’s never practiced at such a high speed.

The rookie wants to improve his pass blocking techniques.  The big guy says he’ll need to be nearly perfect with his technique in order to block the top pass rushers in the NFL  He said they got in some one-on-one work versus pass rushers today during the workout.

Johnson said he’s anxious for Monday when all of the veterans come in to camp.  The rookie wants to work against the veterans defensive linemen , so he will know what to expect in the fall when the games start.

Second round tight end Zach Ertz says he will try to learn and retain as much of the playbook as possible because he won’t be able to practice again until he graduates from Stanford.  As for practice, “It’s fast at the end of the day it is as advertised, Ertz said regarding Chip Kelly’s practices.

Matt Barkley said Kelly wants his quarterbacks to process a lot of information, then make a decision and get the ball out.  He feels that one of his strengths.  According to Barkley, the offense they were working on today had a lot of similarities to what he saw when they played Oregon in college and similarities to the USC offense as well.

The former USC quarterback said he’s not bothered by critics questioning his ability because of the struggles that Mark Sanchez, Matt Leinart and others have had.  Barkley says he’s his own man and will have his own career unaffected by what has happened to other USC quarterbacks.

Fifth round draft pick out of North Carolina State says he has tried to model his game after Eagles great Brian Dawkins.  Wolff said he tries to play with the passion which Dawkins played with during his career.

All these Andy Reid lovers we have on this team needs to go. Guys like Desean Jackson, Maclin and even McCoy. They support a regime of failure and lobby for losers like Michale Vick because thats their “Boy” that tells me that they dont care about whos best at quarterback to help the team win. Even though Nick Foles was the better QB last year they still think this is Vicks team. #1 need on this team next year will be WR

And you know this because you have had conversations with these guys about Vick and Foles. LOL these guys will support whoever is under center why would you think otherwise? And paulman if you listen to Chip Kelly talk he’s all about Chip Kelly. So I guess they are following the leader.

You got a point ES. But i have a feeling coach Kelly will change all of that. This is his team now. So, either the players accept it, or bye bye

I agree ES to a certain extent, I stated in January and will state again, this will not truly be Chip Kelly’s Team until Vick is gone and why it wasn’t done shortly after he was hired still little sense to me. Putting a new a program with new Coaches and a lot of new Players does not need the Lossr, Me-First
Player like Vick has been over his Career.. Instead of a fresh start for the entire a franchise, this arrogant, dark cloud will hangover this Team until Vick is out of Philly..

All yall do is talk about vick when there is so much more to talk about! this article wasn’t even about Vick lol crazy hatred like he is the reason the Eagles sucked the last few years. All regimes come to an end Vick came in on the end of Andy’s, yet people on here consistently act like he drove the ship into the earth. Sometimes I wonder do people even watch football or know what goes into winning? to say Shady needs to go because he supports Vick is the biggest Vick hate ever! Foles played ok and I like his upside but 1-5 is not impressive yet its ok to make excuses for him. horrible defensive play two years ago everybody forgets that and says the O-line was healthy lol people don’t remember the way the D gave it up to SF, NY, the Bills debacle where that god awful safety who was cut was out there early in the year. This team will be no better with Foles than with Vick this year! its a team game and until they have the horses to contend it does not matter! you don’t need to be out there as a young QB to learn. Foles will get his shot and if he is good he will take advantage. until then stop bitching about Vick. The only dark cloud over the team is in your mind because everything I hear from south philly sounds positive. I can see if Vick was here as long as Mcnabb, and still was playing. somehow you idiots have replaced ya hate with Mcnabb and transferred it to Vick. I guess you just need something to hate or blame, typical philly.

People are entitled to their own opinion on this site. That’s why we as Eagles fans blog. I personally do not hate Vick, but I’m not a big Vick fan. I think he’s a great athlete, but not a good QB. He’s injury prone, inaccurate with his throws, and has a hard time holding onto the ball. Maybe things change with this new style of offense and Vick plays better in this new system…but i wouldn’t get my hopes up Vick fans.

Amen, brother. Hate is a very unhealthy emotion and could lead to severe cardiac arrhythmias. Some seem to be passionately obsessed with, and express extreme aversion and hostility toward the guy. Wow. Vick hatred knows no limits. Not a good thing. Ain’t worth it. You expressed it perfectly. Hey people, it’s a new beginning. The person that REALLY “drove the ship into the earth” is now coaching the Kansas City Chiefs. Pray for their fans.

I can support both sides of this argument. Vick is a me first player with a poor work ethic. However to say he drove the ship into the ground is absurd. Andy was clearly the biggest problem with his half-assed talent evaluation, his horible time management, and terrible, predictable and unimaginative play-calling. Vick is a decent QB in a run-first offense. He is too short and can’t read defenses. People fall in love with the athleticism and the rocket arm. The guy has always been an anomally. He has terrible size for an NFL QB. But you look at his arm strength and release and you think it will work. Then you realize he has a low football IQ and does not know how to read defenses. Unfortunately his other-worldly talents just do not translate to greatness at the QB position. Vick probbably could have been an outstanding slot WR with his speed and toughness. He could have been the original Percy Harvin but better. But his athletic ability was wasted at QB.

This draft is definitely a D-. The expectations of these guys makes it a B in the minds of wishful thinkers. You WILL be disappointed.

Dogfish Draft Ale is good, they make it down here in Delaware. But this draft isn’t. I have always been my own person, and never have submitted to popular opinion. So I don’t drink the so- called Green Kool-Aid. My Flavor of Kool-Aid, has always been Black Cherry – Lemonade……

This flavor the Eagles are giving samples is BULL$#%!…NO THANKS!!

Not to change the Subject, but Great Hire this afternoon by the 76ers in Sam Hinkle as new GM, President of Basketball Operations. he’s an up and comer
NBA Executive who rebuilt the Houston Rockets, uses a lot of Metric in analyzing winning Teans and Winning Players..
Out are Dileo, Thorn and of course Collins.. Give this guy 2 Years to rebuild this Roster, Coaching Staff and mindset.. Best news for 76er Fans in a long time

Yes, he is as aggressive a drafter, and negotiator, because he thinks just like GMCliff. The 76ers FINALLY got it right.

Hinke also advised NFL teams like New England, San Francisco, Seattle, and the Bears on draft stratagies.

Paul. I actually met him, and heard him speak at a convention sponsored by Stanford in Sports Management, Talent evaluation, and strategic thinking. This guy is truth, young, and smart. GOOD HIRE!!

My coaching hire would be Mike Malone, or Jerry Sloane, for the Sixers.

Yeah, now only, if only they were able to get players to come here! We have a horrific roster, in cap purgatory, even with Bynum gone, & a miniscule chance at a good draft pick. He’s better than what we’ve had, but I don’t care who’s running this team, this team has a LOOOONG road ahead. They are a blackhole organization.

Its all about winning a championship. This team will never win a superbowl as long as Vick is the starting quarterback. To have him there for another year is pointless to me because it hinders the growth of Nick Foles or Matt Barkley. The attitude we had here in Philly last year was a laid back we except losing type attitude. I believe you still have some players on this team that are still in that mind set. Will it rub off on players like Patrick Chung and players like Cary Williams who were in systems where they dont tolerate losing. I think its a legit arguement.

ES, Vick has the same chance of getting this team to a Super Bowl as Foles or Barkley slim and none, but hey crazier things have happened. If Vick beats out Foles and Barkley by all means let’s start Foles or Barkley because that will really help the morale of the rest of the team.
