Damaris Johnson Is Set For Breakout Year In Chip Kelly Offense

DamarisJohnson6Philly.com has a feature article today on second year wide receiver Damaris Johnson.  Jeremy Maclin says Johnson could be the biggest winner in the new Chip Kelly offense and I concur.

More than any other weapon on the team, Johnson is able to operate as a wide receiver, slot receiver, but he’s also capable of shifting into the backfield and carrying the football like a running back.  He is so quick, he can run the ball as a running back and stay away from getting hit very hard.

This a key weapon for Chip Kelly because he likes to run against nickel personnel, and especially dime personnel.

Cornerbacks don’t like to tackle and the Eagles athletic offensive line should be very adept at pulling and getting out in front of their talented running backs, including Johnson.  The former Tulsa product will be the reverse man on reverses, as well as a good weapon on quick screens.

I could see the Eagles using him with the multiple tight ends or their better run blocking wide receivers.  If the defense brings in defensive backs, they’ll shift Johnson from slot receiver to running back and run a sweep on 3rd and five against nickel personnel.

Johnson showed some of his ability a year ago, but I think he’s going to have a big year in 2013.  He’s one of the quickest players in the NFL and I think he’s ready for a bust out year.

I don’t think they’re going to let DeSean Jackson carry the ball very much out of the backfield because Jackson is more of a straight ahead burner, while Johnson is a great sop and start, change direction guy.  He runs like the boxer, who can fight an opponent but never get hit.  Johnson is comfortable playing running back because he can get what’s there, then get on the ground and protect himself.  He will frustrate defenders who are looking for the big hit.

I honestly think it depends on who the QB is. He seems to have had been in sync with Foles but not so much with Vick. I think Vicks height had a lot to do with that…Just a thought.

Paulman’s Rumor of the Day
49ers are very interested in Trading for Eagles WR J Maclin ..
With the 49ers losing their top WR Michael Crabtree for the 2013 Season with a Torn Achilles and Maclin being in his final Year of his Rookie Contract with an affordable Salary, the 49ers could still afford him while having a Veteran Big Play WR since they don’t have any on their Current Roster.. ..
If Eagles play their cards right, they can get a 2nd Round and maybe a 5th or 6th Round Pick in for Maclin for the 2014 Draft.. Keep your ears & eyes open.

Another unnecessarily over glorified player. We don’t need LeMichael James.

This NFL Version of Chip Kelly’s Offense will not be the duplicate of the Oregon College Offense. It will look similar to the New Hampshire Offense, which is the New England style of Offense.

We are set at RB. We don’t need anymore. McCoy, Bryce Brown, and Felix Jones is a strong enough Core, and the best in the League.

I love McCoy but I dont think he will be nearly as productive in this scheme if it is indeed a zone blocking scheme… felix jones lmfao. id take peewee herman as my 3rd rb over him

We’ll see Mhenski. We are all just speculating, because we really don’t know how anybody is going to benefit, or not benefit in this Offense.

They just released Masonyet, so to me that is a sign that they prefer Felix Jones or Chris Polk , or both to remain with the squad.

Danrius Johnson will be more effective in this new Kelly/Shurmur Offensive System than D-Jax will.. I think this will be D-Jax’s final Season as he ends up with Career Low #’s in Catches,Yards, and with his surly,piss-poor attitude that he has to begin with which will not be tolertated by Chip Kelly and will be moved, traded, released at the end of the 2013 Season
D Johnson can do all the Bubble Routes,Slants,Reverses that D-Jax will puss out to do and at 1/8th of the Cost and D Johnson will do a better job due to his toughness and willingness to do battle..
Why keep D-Jax..He’s next on my hit-list after VIck.. Get these Cancer’s outta here..

The miners are already on record saying they may not do anything drastic to replace Crabtree since he should be back on the field in November. Maclin isn’t going anywhere and neither is DJax.

Updating a previous item, coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed Michael Crabtree’s Achilles’ tendon was “completely torn” during Tuesday’s OTA practice, and the injury was to Crabtree’s right Achilles’.
So this wasn’t a partial tear like Terrell Suggs’ April 2012 Achilles’ injury. For bookkeeping, we like to know which side of Crabtree’s body was injured, the full extent of the injury, and all dates associated with his recovery, in order to provide accurate timelines in the future. Crabtree underwent surgery on Wednesday, May 22. Per Harbaugh, the full Achilles’ tear occurred when Crabtree was “coming in motion and just planted and started a route, and it felt like someone kicked him in the Achilles’.” The 49ers hope to have Crabtree back around Week 12.

I would find it hard to believe he will play at all this year…

Paul, DeSean Jackson will be a main feature in this Offensive Attack, as a receiver, in the backfield, and any other way Kelly chooses to use him. He is to the Eagles what Tyvon Austin will be to the Rams.

Tyvon Austin is physically Stronger and mentally tougher and will have a nice 7-8-10 Year Career ahead of him,
D-Jax is soft, a puss when it comes to contact and has a bad attitide.. He will be out of Football within 3 Years time and the Eagles will never see the Value of his overpaid COntract.. Take away his Deep/Bomb Routes and he add’s very little but his bad attitide to the Team in my opinion..D-Jax’s best days were 2-3 Years ago as I have stated many times… a has been, who plays not to get hurt and you can’t play that way.. Time to move on ..

You know you’re my main man when comes to football, but I have to disagree with you on this. You up to this point have been wrong about the future of DeSean Jackson. Tavon Austin is shorter, and weighs as much as DeSean. Regardless Jackson will be a major part of Kelly’s Offensive design, in terms of mismatches.

Your rolling on hate with DeSean, and need to let it go bruh. He’s here, and isn’t going anywhere, and I expect a good year from him, and I know your not going to like this……….Vick

Both (D-Jax/VIck) are Cancer’s GMCliff and have never Won anything.. Give me a Team of Winners and Players that work hard are Smart, Good Teammates and Tough.. I don’t see any of these attributes with D-Jax/Vick and want them both gone .. I am tired of their arrogance, their excuses and their denial… The Eagles House needed to be completely cleaned out of the Andy Reid era and it was half-assed done keeping this Clowns around Novacare because the Eagles GM Roseman has no balls..
Tayvon will put on 10lbs of muscle by Year 2 and is already stronger than D-Jax ever was.. No comparsion..

You know I still respect your Football Knowledge GMCLiff and it’s ok for us to disagree from time to time.. I have never liked D-Jax and it’s because of his selfish, pouty and spoiled attitude..He’s got great Talent, no doubt about that, I just don’t like him as a Teammate,
It was ok when he was a Rookie/2nd Year Player, but now as a 5th Year Pro, D-Jax needs to step up his game and his all-around attitude and be a Team Leader that he espouses himself to be..

I hear you Buddy, but don’t lose it my man. I am just as frustrated with the talent evaluation as you are. I don’t dislike Vick or Jackson at all. They could be contributors in other ways if the team as whole was stronger talent wise.

I am sold on Foles, and Vick, in my perfect world would be the backup, as he is flat out more talented than Matt Barkley, even at 33 years old. I know I am in the minority, but when have I ever cared about that? I stand by what I think………..

Paulman you just described 75% of the guys in the NFL, so if you don’t play on winning teams your a cancer ? Get over yourself with judging people that you don’t know and have no clue to what character they have. And before you bring up a thousand things about Vick’s bad judgements make sure no skeletons jump out your closet. No way in hell Tayvon puts on 10lbs of muscle he’s been playing at the same weight since he arrived at Morgantown .

Gmcliff there is an article over on eagles.com about Vinny Curry he has his weight up to 280 and is working strictly as a 3-4 DE. Do you think he’ll be effective at that weight? He seems very excited.

Yes I do Biggie….. If Vinny Curry can play to his potential as a 3-4 DE, as we expected to see him play as a 4-3 DE, at that weight, He would be an asset to that Defensive 3-4 front.

Damaris Johnson, IS NOT, hands down our #1 WR! Either you are joking, misunderstood me, or are smoking that wacky tobaccy. He has to surpass Djax, Maclin, Avant, if he’s still here, & maybe even Benn, or Momah. Cooper & Johnson should be cut. Johnson isn’t even top 7 option.

Eagles still dont have that dynamic WR that defenders fear. I think next year it will probabaly be the biggest need next to QB assuming the Eagles have a high pick. Thats why I like Matt Barkley more than any other QB on the team because he can fit balls into spots that none of the other QB’s can.

ummm….what? maybe the Eagles don’t have the WR that is feared by defenses to catch 10 plus passes a game…But they most definitely have a WR that the defenses fear for long pass plays…

Eagles will not be running many Deep Patterns anymore so D-JAx can be defended by 1 CB and beat-up, pushed around for you only have to cover him from the Numbers to the sidelines since he doesn’t go across the middle or run slants, etc,etc.. Hell, I could cover him..
