DeSean Jackson Ready To Sign With Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

It’s become common knowledge amongst Eagles fans that wide receiver DeSean Jackson has been dabbling in the music industry.  He has a record label (Jackpot Records) and is trying to develop a career as a rapper.  Jackson is a former Pro Bowl wide receiver and he’s trying to use his accomplishments on the football field to help him in his music career.

Jeff McLane of Philly.com and Mike Garofalo of USA Today are reporting that Jackson has fired his agent Drew Rosenhaus and he’s planning on signing with Jay-Z’s company Roc Nation, which has already signed New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith, New York Yankees All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano and WNBA beauty Skylar Skylar Diggins.

It would be a bold move by the diminutive receiver. Jackson is figuring that forging a relationship with a music mogul like Jay-Z would be a major shot in the arm to his music endeavors.

I don’t see anything wrong with Jackson making this move, but he must make sure he doesn’t lose his focus on the football, especially during the season.  We’ve seen him lose his focus in the past, so I’m concerned that he might make that mistake again.  Sometimes practice can get boring to players, while succeeding at something new could more exciting. The Eagles number 10 can’t get so distracted by the prospects of developing his music company and wind up losing his main source of income, which is football.

If it happens we will know it, by dropped passes, poor routes and Jackson’s production falling for long stretches during the season.

Why DeSean ditched Drew Rosenhaus

07:06 AM ET 06.03 | DeSean Jackson is looking for a new agent, and some have speculated that Jay-Z is on the horizon. [Jackson] has parted ways with agent Drew Rosenhaus, according to multiple sources. The wide receiver signed a five-year, $47 million deal with the Eagles in March of 2012, $15 million of which is fully guaranteed. According to two sources, the split is at least in part over money. Specifically, that there is money that Rosenhaus feels is owed to him that has yet to be paid. Jackson has not yet started the process of finding a new agent. From Jackson’s view, there is not a sense of urgency to find one immediately. And there is still a line of communication open between Rosenhaus and Jackson, leaving room for the possibility of a reconciliation. It is possible that Jackson will need an agent sooner than many realize.

DeSean Jackson is done.

He is ripe and ready to be taken to the cleaners financially, if he hasn’t been already.

This ‘Jay Z’ is just a frontman for rich gangsters running a ‘ponzi scheme’…He exists to exploit Black athletes.

But people will believe anything…Some people think Magic Johnson ‘owns’ the Los Angeles Dodgers.

I think your post is dumb, racist and contains no substance at all. but your opinion is that you think jay z is a rich gangster who has to be running a ponzi scheme as opposed to a legitimate business and his intention is to exploit people specifically black people rather than capitalize on his brand and do what many other agents/agencies do.

when in reality jay z is as brilliant as they come, one of the most successful self made business men in the world

mh, self made business man, that was backed by drug $$$$ & the gangsters. Don’t be so naive, gullible & close-minded. Go do some research, about the truth behind the East-West Gangster rap wars! Both sides, battles, have nothing to do with music, all backed by/ about drugs, $$$$, greed, turf & Gang colors. Don’t write off peoples comments, without researching first. Jay Z, has some very powerful backing. I don’t agree with his Ponzi scheme comment, but greed should be the proper line.

Jay Z has no talent, except to let himself be used by the real gangsters…Jay Z doesn’t have the money you might think he does, but he serves a function…He was fronting for a ‘Russian’ billionaire who bought the Nets to put a ‘Black face’ on the team, and get knuckleheads in NYC to spend their money on that NBA crap…’Rap music’???…Please, this is a garbage product sold to the peeps who never heard of Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin and who, if they heard the name Berry Gordy, would think it was a new drink from McDonald’s or a type of cell phone.

Magic Johnson fronts for a hedge fund that owns the Dodgers.

Main point here is DeSean has gotten involved in too many distractions, and lost his focus as a football player.

Racist?…You don’t understand the definition of the word.

I would not be surprised if about 60-70% of pro athletes get fleeced of their money by agents, then ‘financial advisers with investment opportunities’ and, finally, the IRS.

Well, thanks for the back hand compliment… [—-)

You know, it’s funny that this topic came up, because just yesterday I was thinking about the problems these over paid athletes have in just keeping track of there money.

First of all, like everything in finance these days, the numbers are all inflated…But worse, how can you find a safe place to just store your money, let alone find good ‘investments’ for $10, 20, 100 million?…Your financial security depends on ‘advisors’ who get paid a percentage by both the client and the ‘banks & funds’ just to pump these dollars into the system.

And, with the current state of hedge funds, offshore accounts, ‘derivatives’ etc. this money many times either disappears or just shrinks…This happens to whole countries.

This will be D-Jax’s Final Season as an Eagle.. He will get released after this Season and is not Worth th $10 MIllion Per Season Salary for 40-45 Catches, for 600-700 Yards and 3-4 TD Reception’s .. This Offense will not be throwing Deep Passes and will require a lot of short Routes in between the Numbers and don’t believe D-Jax will be very happy in this new Offense which will require him to go across the middle, block more and be removed off the field once inside the Red-Zone which will lessen his attempts for TD’s .. should be interesting to watch..

Djax’s contract pretty much says he is done after this year unless they restructure. Don’t think Djax will do that since he has shown he is more about his money then he is about a team.

I personally don’t give a shit who these players have as agents or whether these agents rob them blind. Just play well on Sundays.

He won’t like or do very well in this Spread the Ball, Short Passing Attack Offense, More Running, More Passes to the TE’s, Bigger Targets used once in the Red-Zone that Eagles Offense will be employing..I can hear/see him complaining by Week #6, and then mentally disengaged by Week #10.. He will get 40 Snaps a Game and end up with very pedestrian #’s from a Production wise as the Top Paid WR on the Team

You love to rewrite everyone’s history eh Stevo.

First you’re all-aboard myth #1 that Vick is a good QB
Then all aboard myth 2, that his struggles are every other teammates’ fault
You love myth 3 that he sucks only because Reid did nothing but call long bombs all day

And now you’re rolling with myth 4, that Paulman (and I’m assuming I) said he would be gone after each and every season.

What we said was:

2010 (mid-season): Don’t buy into ths hype…he’s only looking good because there is no film on the guy and he’s catching teams by surprise…he’ll fade by the end of the year.
Was lambasted by the many Vickpologists, but proven correct

2011: The Eagles better not hitch their wagon to this pretend superstar, because we all know how this story always ends with Vick. I at this point said they should trade Vick while there are plenty of other sucker teams out there willing to pay a ransom for a mirage. That if given a big contract he’d never live up to it and reid and eagles would regret the move.
Were lambasted by the Vickpologists but again proven correct.

2012 We’ll go nowhere with this guy. I in fact predicted some think like 2500 yrds and 19 tds and pretty much hit that right on. He’s going to miss his regular 4 games….spinning tires. I said he would be on the bench by week 12 not to return.
Were lambasted by the Vickpologists, but again proven correct.

2013: Now I am saying he will be cut before TC. I think Paulman is giving him TC before he’s cut.
Again, being chided now by the incredibly diminished, but still diehard, group of Vickpologists who see the Kelly regime as a “new start” for their hero who’s career never lived up to its “potential”, not because of Mike (never Mike) but by all the incompetence around him for the past 11 years.

And again, I’ll (we’ll) be proven correct.

i never said he was a good qb. I just dont cry about him 24/7 like some. I have said that he has shown flashes but that is all. Ive also said in 2012 that he was the best qb we had (sadly). Still see nothing to change my 2012 opinion.

#2- show me. Show me anything that says that. I have said that the TEAM sucks. All of them. Starting with the coach and his system. I have felt this way long before Vick came. Go back and find it for yourself.

#3- Not ALL but MOST of Reid’s system was about throwing downfield and less runs. Prove that wrong please.

#4- I was talking to Pman… not you. But if you want to lump the 2 of you together… thats fine. Sorry Pman.

I get on Vinnie for being all Vick all the time and jumping on anychance to kick him. I also Dislike Vick (go read my comments the day he came) but I rooted for the Eagles( and Vick) all along the way.

I get on Pman for thinking he is a reporter.

about myth #2…everyone else’s fault???? Whatever. That’s a common wail of the Vickpologists and I lumped you in with them.

About 3#…prove Reid wasn’t just about the bombs? I’ve done that 50x. Go back and read one of the older threads. Vick threw 70+% of his passes under 10 yards last year (less than Foles). Its a myth that Reid called nothing but deep balls….

no Vinnie.. Not everyone elses fault. How do you come up with that? I said.. the team sucks. Thats what ive said. Ive said over and over that the way the coach coached they would not win. The way they built this team…. they would not win (although I thought they had a chance with the bringing in superstars offseason)….. This is not me blaming everyone BUT vick. This is me saying…. this TEAM is no good. From coach, to QB to LB to FS…. the team was no good. I am not so simpleminded as to say…. QB’s are the only thing that matters.

about the bombs… you continue to change words and history….. reread it. again and again. I said…. Andy Reids O was built around deep passes and needs time. How can you disagree with this without changing what i have said? Would you say that Andy Reids O’s of the last 4 years were about quick passes 5 yards deep? Would you say he built this team around the run game? How about swing passes and screens…. has that been his base for the last 4 years? No? What was it? Was it not…. deep passes and lots of points? Didnt he admit that when he said 2011’s D they thought would catch up to the high flying O? Remember that?

I do not understand how you can argue what i have said FOREVER……

1. Andy Reids O was built around deep passes, using Djax’s speed.
2. Andy Reid believes screens are the same as runs (although he he had gotten away from that)
3. Andy Reid’s O needs time to develop plays down field.
4. ALL of these things combined failed us.

Notice….. i havent even begun to speak about the turnover machine (who is a problem). I havent even talked about short WR’s that cant take a hit (this is a problem) I havent even talked about plugging in bad draft picks on the Oline (has been a problem).

So.. go ahead… change the story.. change the history… and make it all about the QB. Btw….. who were the QB’s in the superbowl this year? They got their team there all alone right? Did Brady get there this year? Manning? Rodgers?

Apparently, one of the main reasons Desean was pouting during 2011 was because he was, essentially, broke.

He had burned through his rookie contract and was living off what he expected were to be his future earnings. Of course, Rosenhaus was more than happy to loan Desean a lot of $$ (undoubetedly with interest).

Now I guess they’re fighting over the amounts.

I love watching MTV cribs and all the 20 something music “stars” in “their” mansions and cars which are really just rentals/leases being paid for by the record companies……$$ to be then garnished after the 2nd CD release…taken by the RC to repay the “loans” on properties…….use those kids up and then toss them for the next up and comer…..I wonder what it must be like going from a basement to a penthouse, back to a basement in 3 years?

Anyway, I’m not saying that will happen to Desean, but he’s on that track right now. There’s always another fast kid.

Over the past 32 starts (2 full seasons)
122 catches, 2115 yrds (nice) and 7 tds (not as nice)

Those are good numbers, but hardly irreplacable….I hope he’s stashing some of that last contract of his for a rainy day, but he didn’t save any of his first signing bonus…….

Over the past 32 starts Desean has 122 catches for 2115yrds and 7 tds.

Floyd mayweather was talking trash to Hopkins, bragging about his “crib”, what hes got , what others don’t have, offered to take Hopkins down to show him his crib, which of course offended a real man like Hopkins, who cut him down, calling him a bitch for thinking Hopkins would be impressed like some bitch would be about another man’s possessions

who cares what djax spends his money on, whether he’s broke or has billions, how he wears his hat, clothes, his music his cars, his women the bible talks about it in the ten commandments, but a street man said , “who cares what another dude get got dont got”

I still think it’s a big need for 2013.. D-Jax/Maclin won’t last 6 Weeks in this Season for they are too afraid to go over the middle and catch the ball between the Numbers.. Avant can’t run away from LB’s .. We will see 15-16 Receptions a Game split between the TE’s Celek,Casey & Ertz and the Receivers splitting up about 10 Receptions betwwen and then a few more passes to RB’s McCoy/Felix Jones then we saw with in Previous Years
1 Thing I am certain of, if you can’t Rush Block effectively as an Eagle WR under this new Chip Kelly system, then you will see the field less and less as a Receiver.. Kelly will run the ball a lot more than AR ever did and especially in the Red-Zone ,, so the small smurf, puss-bag Eagle WR’s (D-Jax/Maclin) will be on the Sidelines pouting

Yahoo Sports reports agent Drew Rosenhaus has filed a grievance with the NFLPA against former client DeSean Jackson alleging he failed to pay back more than $400,000 in loans.
Uh oh. It appears we now know why the sides recently split. Rosenhaus is alleging that D-Jax failed to repay multiple loans he took out between November 2009 and March 2012. It’s not unusual for agents to loan clients money, and Jackson was rumored to be having financial problems before signing his “five-year, $47 million” extension in March 2012. As for Rosenhaus, he’s risking alienating some of his other clients by going so aggressively after one of his former players.

Stevo, I’m not changing anything. All I’m saying is that was people said Reid’s offense was about, and what Reid’s offense actually was about are too different things.

Did they throw deep? Of course they did. But so does everyone else…at about the same rate.

What people say: Reid’s offense was built around the deep passing game.
What people say: The Patriots are (were) built around the short passing game to their TEs and Welker.

The reality (these #s based on how far the ball travels in the air):

Eagles: Atts under 10 yrds (or behind LOS) 400 (of 608 total atts). Or 66%
Patriots: Atts under 10 yrds (or behind LOS) 444 (of 637 total) Or 69%

Eagles: Atts over 31 yrds 32 of 400 – or 8%
Patriots: Atts over 31 yrds 31 of 444. Or 7%

The Eagles attempeted a “deep” throw once every 12.5 atts
The Pats attemped a “deep” throw once every 14 attempts.

So the Eagles “deep strike attack” threw one, perhaps 2 more deep balls per game than the “controlled TE heavy short passing game” of the Pats.

These are just labels. Just words.

The reality is that in terms of passes, the Eagles were right there with the same percentages of short, medium, deep balls as everyone else in the league.

Thats not talking about “people”.. thats calling ME out. Back it up. Reid was about scoring points by throwing deep. He said so at the start of the 2011 season. He said he had hoped the D would catch up to the high powered O. How is that a myth if he said it himself?

You love to compare the Eagles deep passes to the Pats deep passes. The pats can get away with it…. do you know why? Because they have Tom Brady. Can the Ravens? No. Can the Seahawks get away with that SAME style? No… they need to run the ball and such. BTW… whens the last time the Pats won the SB with this style?

YOU NEED A D AND A RUN GAME!!!!

The Ravens have super bowl rings today not because they needed a D and a run game. Their QB played like Montana. Did ray rice or ray lewis even play in the big game, because they looked invisible. The Packers won because of Rogers. The Saints won because of Brees. The Colts won because of Manning. Eli made the signature plays in their Superbowl wins also. The league is simply all about the Qb, which is why there will always be bitching about that position more than anything else.

I use to preach for having a dominate defense as my number one concern. But the way the league has evolved, its pretty much stupid thinking. A great QB will tear a great defense apart these days. The rules are just way too offense friendly and they are going to get even better for offenses in the future with all the lawsuits. Its not rocket science that the Eagles need to find their QB of the future asap if they want a SuperBowl. I don’t know who the QB of the future is but it sure as hell isn’t a loser like Vick. Based on his contract its perfectly clear he doesn’t even have a NFL future. We have to find our guy for the next decade or so and stop wasting more fucking time on pathetic players.

“How is that a myth if he said it himself?”

It is a myth because it DID NOT HAPPEN.

The eagles threw the ball short, medium and long at just about the exact same % as every other team did last year.

I don’t care what is said, I care about what happens.

People (you and others) say that all the eagles did was throw deep last year. That is a myth.

It is a myth because it did not happen. It was a construct of opinion.
