G. Cobb talks about Eagles preparing for the Chargers [media id=340 width=480 height=360] Chip Kelly as his boys are the talk of the NFL. Everybody in the Philadelphia area are wondering whether we have a playoff team or a team which will fade into the background.
Personally, I think this Eagles squad is capable of winning the NFC East. From looking at the first week. there’s no way anybody can give a good reason why the Birds can’t play on the same level with the Cowboys, Giants and Redskins. After getting a look at the tape of the Redskins game, I was amazed to see that the Eagles had so many blown opportunities to make big plays.
Michael Vick missed quite a few open receivers. In a series or two in the first half, I saw him miss Brent Celek on a corner route. Then he missed Jason Avant on an out route. Next up he missed Zach Ertz on a slant route. All three receivers were wide open.
On the throw to Celek, Ertz was wide open on a shorter throw. Vick knows that he can play better.
Despite the missed throws he made a few throws which only a quarterback with his gun of an arm, could have made. A throw in the first quarter to DeSean Jackson was a Vick special. He threw a dart in between two Redskins defenders.
The touchdown throw to Celek was a thing of beauty. Vick didn’t have his feet set, but he threw a high-powered dart in between three Redskins and Celek had to catch it because Vick put it in there between the eight and the seven.
This morning this Eagles team has their minds on the San Diego Chargers.
They’re back to work and focused on jumping out to a 2-0 record. The temperature is close to 90 degrees as the Birds work out in the shorts. These guys have to be a bit tired after that exhausting game in Maryland on Monday night.
Vick was walking around like a guy who had been hit a couple of dozen times.
I think fatigue could be a factor for both teams when game time gets here on Sunday. The Birds have the benefit of not having to fly across country. Chip Kelly seems to be running a walk through workout of sorts to get the guys loose and work on a few things, while letting their bodies recover from Monday night.
The Eagles secondary was outstanding in the first half of the Washington game, but Billy Davis called off the dogs in the second half and put the defense in a bend but don’t break mentality. They gave up nearly 300 yards passing in the second half alone to Robert Griffin III and the Redskins.
Davis will need to be aggressive against Phillip Rivers and the Chargers, who are able to score from anywhere on the field.
Vick out there practicing? any limping from our big 3 (desean, Vick, Shady)?
It appears that Vick is good to go and my report from Yesterday was inaccurate.. Which is good news indeed..
Now it’s onto Week# 2 and the Focus & Preparation now needs to be on the SD Charges and put the energy and excitement of the Redskin’s game away…
A Few things to watch for when the Chargers have the Ball and the best way to attack this Charger Offense
1) TE Antonio Gates is the healthiest and lightest, he’s been in about 3 Seasons.. Always a favorite Target of Rivers, Eagles need to stay with him and be Physical at the line-of scrimmage before he gets out in his pass-patterns…A Healthy Gates running with a ball in his arms at full speed is a Secondary’s nightmare and the best way is to body him up before he gets down the field in his patterns. (Eagles LB & Safeties need to be all over him)
2) Chargers Big WR’s Floyd and Brown are the type of WR’s that have given the Eagles fits for years, Tall,Strong and work the deep sideline routes well.. Eagles Secondary need to be physical with these guys and challenge their ROutes and knock them off-course and the DL needs to get enough Pressure early and often on QB Rivers for him to get rid of the ball sooner before many of these deep routes are able to be run..
3) Limit/Prepare for the use of RB’s Matthews,Brown & Woodhead out of the backfield..A staple of New HC McCoy’s Offense is the use of Screens,Wheel Routes and a lot of check-downs to the Chargers RB’s out of the Backfield, so the Eagles LB’s are going to have to be aware,rackle well out in space and be able to cover these smaller and quicker backs out of the backfield…
Area to Attack the Chargers is right up the gut over Center Nick Hardwick..
QB Rivers is not very nimble or accurate, when forced to roll to his left or right or to throw the ball while moving.. Rivers is the “Classic, Stand -Up Pocket QB” and will slide up in the Pocket to deliver his best Passes.. If the Eagles can keep that “Release Spot” on the move for Rivers, then they will force him into bad throws…
Also the Eagles need to take advantage of LT King Dunlap and Rookie RT DJ Fluker with Stunts,Blitzes and the like, to keep them off-balanced .. but I envision Blitzes right up the Center,Guard Gaps to get into Rivers Face as early and often as possible as a solid game plan in defending him….
Next will be the best ways for the Eagles to attack this very young and inexperienced Charger Defense
I was at practice today and heres what I know…. dont say anything but the Eagles are going to sign Emaillio Estaves on thursday to a 1 week contract and they are implementing the Might Ducks Flying V for the O this week.
Damn..I was hoping for Gene Hackman and we were going to run the picket fense to get that shot for Jimmy.

Gates = 2 catches for 49 in week1. His productivity has vastly diminished over the past 3 years or so. He is a weapon, but no where near where he was.
Gotta get some early pressure/hits on Rivers and he will throw picks. The Chargers running game is terrible, so he will have to throw. Send Kendricks in a couple of times and he will fold like he always does.
Dunlap should be good for a couple sacs
This would be a good week to activate Vinny Curry to give them that extra pass rusher to pressure if not sack Rivers.
I am done being Negative about this team. (for a bit) I have been on Record enough that I would rather have an elephant sowed to a gryphon from south hollywood minesota from planet Mars be the QB instead of Vick and I will likely die believing that investing money in a running / mobile QB is Folly.
I enjoyed seeing a team play football and look like they understood what a tackle and a pass were. Unlike 2012.
I still believe that the Redskins were very poor and contributed a-lot to how the eagles looked but I will watch with hope that we will someday be good enough to win something. This team may win more than 5 games but I still do not think they will beat good teams when it matters.
I still believe that this team is rebuilding a concept many of you wish to disagree with (Foolishly I think).
I do think that sometimes you need to do things that you may find distasteful as a fan when you are in the front office in order to get where you want to go (SEE Indianapolis get rid of possible GOAT QB and other key players to ensure they would “Suck for Luck”)
This team will develop. I like much of what Chip provides with his offensive play calling and uptempo style which by the way watching the first half Nick Foles could have made every play Vick made minus Perhaps the rope to Celek (foles does not throw that hard) Although I think the Batted Forward pass would have been complete from foles as he would have arced it and so matbe the points would even out. Yes Foles could have hit jackson in the endzone on the 1st TD almost any QB hits a wide open player like that!
Anyway I am tired of yelling about how Vick is gonna infuriate us and what a scumbag I think he is. ( I wish I could learn to forgive him but I just see a punk ass choking a puppy) It isn’t important who I forgive though as only God can truly forgive anyway!
I still believe that a traditional pocket passer is the key to long term sucess but I am going to enjoy the ride.

This is 2 QB system. This system will work with 2 mobile QBs. Can you imagin Masoli from Oregon next year with Vick. Our offense just continuing to come at defenses. Vick running 30 straight plays then bringing in another mobile QB to keep attacking defenses for 60 minutes. I believe this is a system offense just like Oregon was.Same thing with oline I would be rotating Peters and all my backup olineman throughout game.The backups skill set is enhanced with he defense being tired.
Im not feeling Bryce Brown in this offense. I know he has broken some runs to the outside but that’s all he does. He tries to outrun defenders and isn’t nearly as effective as say a Dion Lewis who IMO was a better fit. Duce needs to keep preaching to Brown to look for cutback lane and stop running straight to the sideline. The 2nd and 3rd rb are gonna be crucial. A cutback shifty runner in this offense is needed.
Foles plays to. 2nd, 3rd or 4th qt I see Vick is tired and getting hit a lot Im bringing in Foles and telling him faster. Keep it going. Run the offense. I come at defenses in waves of players.
