Chip Kelly’s Problem: Slowing down Pace, But Keeping Momentum

Chip Kelly talks about slowing pace but keeping momentum[media id=333 width=480 height=360]We saw something in the second half of the Eagles game against the Redskins which is a going to be a puzzle for Chip Kelly and his staff to solve.  When they build a lead like they did in the game against the Skins by using their warped-speed offense, should they slow down the pace of the plays in the second half.

How should they play when they have a big lead, but they want to run time off the clock, but still hang onto the momentum?  Kelly admitted yesterday that he’s got to solve this question.  The new Eagles coach also admitted that they lost the momentum in the second half and let the Skins back into the game.

It would have been very painful if they had coughed that game, but the Skins definitely had a chance to win it.  I’m sure Kelly is going to get that question again, plus I think the Birds are going to get in that situation again.

What do you do?  If the Birds keep up the speedy pace of plays, they might continue to score points, but the speedy pace helps to keep time on the clock.  Personally I think they need to keep “the pedal to the medal.

Golden rule of football. Dont change up the gameplan until they prove they can stop it. If he wanted to ease up, the thing to do was to bring in backups to give the starters a rest and keep them from getting more banged up. But we let them back in it. Lesson learned, still got the W.

Chip Kelly needs to learn that Killer Instinct most sucessful teams in the NFL have. its a fine line, because you also risk running up the score because you can, and insulting the other teams ownership, coaching staff, and the opposing players. BAD KARMA! This is a tricky situation, but I believe they should put a teams lights out if they are up. Dont take your foot off the Gas for political correctness…..

1. Bring in the backups. I would have loved to see foles enter with some energy. Vick was getting beat up for no reason.
2. Still run huddle but use up most of the time making fake adjustments at the line.
3. Use all 3 rbs and pound the rock.
4. Don’t switch to prevent D so fast.

Yes. Agreed but keep the fast pace as it leads to part of the success as the Defense is less able to make on the fly adjustments.

Better to run 12 – 14 successful plays and go 90 yards and score in 2 minutes than to hold the ball for 5 min and move 20-40 yds and not score. Points Points Points.

I say no matter how much the Eagles are up, they need to continue to play their game thru 3 quarters…4th qtr ease up if you wnat..But giving a team almost a full half of football to gain some momentum, especially on the road, is always a risky situation.
