Turnovers And Disguising Coverages Are Keys To Beating Peyton Manning

PeytonManning1The big question the Eagles defense has before them is how do you stop Peyton Manning and the Broncos offense.  Manning is great at getting to the line of scrimmage early, reading what the defense is doing, then making the proper adjustment to take advantage of the defense.

“You just have to make sure you hold your water against (Manning),” outside linebacker Brandon Graham said  meaning the Birds must not revealing what they’re doing defensively until the ball is snapped. “Once he finds out what you’re doing, he’s going to pick you apart. We have to make sure as a front that we get to him. As soon as his first read is gone, we should be there. We have to take away that first read and make sure we get some pressure on him and get him off his spot.”

This is the game that is played with Manning.  Like Phillip Rivers did in the San Diego game, Manning with get out of the huddle early, if he takes his team into it at all.  Once he gets to the line of scrimmage, he will go into what is a fake snap count.  It will seam like the offense is going to snap the ball, but they are simply forcing the defense to show exactly what it’s going to do.

I know you’re probably saying, why doesn’t the defense ignore the fake snap count, if they know it’s a fake snap count.  Manning will quick snap the defense every now and then, so they don’t when it’s a fake snap count and when it’s real.

The Eagles defensive secondary will have to play the disguise the coverage game, but make sure they’re close enough to where they need to be to do their jobs in the coverage.  It’s a complicated game of “cat and mouse”.

There are only two defenses that has consistently given Manning problems over the years.  Onc is the old New England Patriots squad with a bunch of wily old veterans like Rodney Harrison and Tedy Bruschi.  The other defense was the Baltimore Ravens defense which was led by Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.  One of the Eagles cornerbacks, Cary Williams, played on that defense.

“You try to show him different things, give him different looks,” Williams said. “Not give him an easy read on a lot of things. He’s going to come up there [to the line of scrimmage] and do his show and try to get you to show what you’re doing.

“The thing is, you have to try and stay as calm as possible during those situations and not give him anything. He can look at your stance. He can look at your eyes and tell if you’re coming [on a blitz]. He’s been around the game for so long, man, he’s mastered all of those things.”

“I just remember (in 2010) that we were getting back there (into the backfield),” outside linebacker Trent Cole said yesterday. “We were hitting (Manning), but he was getting the ball off so fast. I can remember him just reading the whole (defensive) backfield, I could see his eyes flicking back and forth. He didn’t even stand up (from under center), he was just looking (side to side). I saw his eyes cranking back over, he was just trying to disguise what he was reading. It was crazy, but – and I can’t give away the secret – I remember we did jump on him for a minute. We did something to distract him, and, I remember it now, I’m going to go tell (defensive coordinator Bill Davis). I think you can get on him if you apply pressure, disguise (your looks) and get after it.”

Disguising will be part of the solution to beating Manning and the Broncos, but turnovers is the best thing the defense can do to come out of the battle with a win.  Manning will anticipate where every defender is going to be, so they’ve got to mix up the coverages and catch the football if and when Manning makes a mistake.  The veteran quarterback hasn’t thrown an interception yet this season.

Denver is so good they can only lose if they beat themselves.

The Eagles will look worse than the raiders and be the laughing stock of the NFL until the Broncos roll their next opponent.

Manning and Company are going to give Chip a special Not For Long welcome. Chip and co can not out smart Manning. He is a legend the birds are irrelevant.

I will continue to say sincerely that I think the Eagles have a shot to win this Sunday.

This happens every year; They win games they shouldn’t, and lose games they should win. This could be one of them.

Anything is possible, but very unlikely
Bronco’s in a laughter 42-31 with Eagłes getting
2 Late TD’s by Foles in garbage time, only after Manning & Co lay off the
Pedal, then off to the Giants which could be Vick’s Final Start as an Eagle

Hey If this Eagles team can get some consistency going on both sides of the ball and cut down on the stupid mistakes and turnovers, they have a chance to win. They literally have to play their best game yet if they want to have a shot to win. If the Offense plays anything like they did last week against an average Alex Smith then its not even close. Manning will capitalize on stupid errors all day long and I expect a blowout.

As I stated, Eagles will score 2 TD’s in the last 8 minutes of the 4th Quarter led by QB Foles in garbage time with Bronco’s playing prevent and mostly back-ups … Then there will be a 1,000 posts on Gobb & other Sites on how Foles is the next Joe Montana… Philly Media and the Fans.. You gotta luv them…

Vick has shown no signs of giving up the starting role. He’s maken an effort to go out of bounds and throw the ball away. He takes just as many big hits as some of the shorter q’s in the league. I think philly fans over analyze that a bit.

Get the rungame goin early and often,Broncs are a speedy d with smaller backers so theres some shots to go right up the middle and get some bug chunks.

Sick Cary Williams on Thomas, he had an excellent game against Bowe and Thomas loves to run after the catch,so get em on the ground.

Run blitz them.

Get a score on the first possesion. Manning is a goat,he’ll do his thing and put up 17-21 quick if we dont controll the rock.

Gonna be a tough game and sometimes the better team wins cause there just better. But this team doesnt resemble the lay down and take it attitude the last two years teams had,so lets see what happens.

Go Birds.

Vick has shown signs of giving up his role —
game 1 — limped off field
game 2 — Foles was on the field for one play
game 3 — Foles was warming up because Vick had to be taken off the field by medical staff but instant replay reversed a knee down field call to a Vick fumble turnover which lead to a KC knee downs

Vick is doing his best no doubt and have played well for them to be 2-1…
Not to change gears, anyone watch that ST Rams/49ers Game last evening
This is QB Sam Bradford’s 4th Season, he looks like he has never progressed at the NFL Level.. A Great arm and quick release but he plays “Scared” all the time to me.. Terrible Game Plan by OC Shottenheimer of the Rams and Jeff Fisher with the Defense..
How do you not double-cover the only legitimate threat (49ers WR Boldin) and let one of the other WR step up and beat you.. How do you not stack the box and focus on RB Gore… Terrible Game and Coaching Job by the entire Rams Staff… I thought the Eagles were bad, for all they Talent and High Draft PIcks the Rams have had the last few years..it’s an embarrasment to the entire League… I tell you, the NFL is really getting bad and harder to harder to watch anymore..

I was waiting for the Sunday night game to start and Rodney Harrisson is yelling about the chargers allowing Jake Locker to throw a TD hail mary down by 4 on 4th down no time outs under :30 left with man to man coverage ———– He says that was the only play the charges had to defend and they didn’t have deep cover 2 allowing a man to man up for grabs TD reception
