Michael Vick Holding The Ball Isn’t the ProblemBREAKING NEWS, Eagles, News, Quarterbacks Friday, October 4th, 2013
“No. I’m not holding the ball too long,” Vick said. “Don’t try to make that an issue. It’s not.”
I thought Vick played one of his better games against the Denver because he did a lot with very little. His wide receivers weren’t doing a good job. They weren’t winning their battles. It also wasn’t a very good pass blocking game for the defensive line. When asked about the blocking and about his receivers this week, Vick refused to take any shots at his teammates, but he also wasn’t happy when the reporters started going after him concerning holding onto the ball too long.
“Listen, whoever’s saying I’m holding the ball too long, they don’t know anything about football,” Vick said when he was asked another question about holding the ball too long. “They need to go watch the film. I’m gonna post some film up for y’all and I’m gonna have a clicker right here. And we’re gonna go through every play so I can break it down verbatim, play for play for y’all.”
I don’t think that was the problem, but you have different websites which measure how long a quarterback hangs onto the ball regardless of what kind of quarterback he is. For instance many times, Vick will hold onto the ball then take off on a run for yardage, while a quarterback who can’t run is going to get rid of that ball because he knows he can’t do any with it.
Right now the Eagles are having all types of trouble with their wide receivers and their offensive line because Jason Peters has a hand injury that’s not allowing him to play at the level we’ve been used to him playing at, and rookie Lane Johnson is learning the ropes and being taken to school. That Denver front seven was much better than I thought they were and they did a good job against the Birds offensive line.
Also the Birds are breaking down at the wrong times. Evan Mathis gets beat and tackles the defensive tackle on the same play Vick hits DeSean Jackson for a big gain. Lane Johnson gets a questionable holding call just as the Birds are going into the red zone. He also got beat for sacks in the game.
