Eagles-Redskins Pregame Thoughts

LeSeanMcCoy2How The Redskins Can Beat The Eagles

Washington’s offense has gotten much better than they were when the Eagles saw them in Week 1.

Robert Griffin has gotten some of his explosiveness back, Alfred Morris is a factor running the ball again, and the team has had Pierre Garcon and Jordan Reed step has playmakers at the receiver and tight end positions.

This is an offense that can move the ball and score points, and its the strength of their team.

The Redskins will need Griffin and the offense to click on all cylinders to keep up with the Eagles’ offense. Washington needs to take advantage of some injuries within the Eagles’ defense.

The Eagles could potentially be without three defensive starters this week with Bradley Fletcher, Mychal Kendricks, and Earl Wolff all recovering from recent injuries.

Kendricks played his best game of the season earlier this year against Washington, and his speed and natural athleticism will be hard for Najee Goode to replace.

Fletcher had been manning his starting position very well over the last couple of weeks. He missed last Sunday’s game and Roc Carmichael started in his place. Carmichael made it through the game without any major issues, but its hard to gauge just how well he played when he was spent the majority of the game facing third-string quarterback Scott Tolzien.

Earl Wolff had played well enough that the coaches kept him in the starting lineup even after former starter Patrick Chung returned to active duty. Chung’s play had been pretty spotty before he went down.

These are three young guys who had been playing important roles on the defense. If they’re unable to go, Washington will find it a little easier to move the ball and put up points.

Why The Eagles Will Win

The Washington defense remains one of the league’s worst units.

Through 9 games, they’ve only given up less than 24 points one time. Six times, they’ve given up 30 or more, including 34 last week to the lowly Vikings.

This defense is a dream matchup for Chip Kelly, who torched Jim Haslett’s unit for 33 points back in Week 1.

Kelly’s offense has been in such a great rhythm in the last two weeks, and the Washington defense doesn’t have the talent that is necessary to disrupt their flow.

The Redskins have always struggled to account for DeSean Jackson. Jackson has had some of the best games of his career when going up against DeAngelo Hall. And even if the Redskins manage to limit the damage that he can do, they’ve still got to account for LeSean McCoy and even Riley Cooper, who has emerged as one of quarterback Nick Foles’ favorite targets.

Kelly could have put up even more points than he did on Washington in Week 1, but he took his foot off of the gas pedal and went for a more conservative approach in the second half. If he decides to stay aggressive and keep firing this week, his offense should be in line for another banner day.

Final Thoughts

A lot of people believe that Washington has a pretty decent chance to come in and upset the Eagles, but I just don’t see it.

Yes, the Redskins have been better offensively over the last few weeks. There’s a lot of talent on that side of the ball to account for, and they’re a team that’s certainly capable of trading blows in a shootout.

But their defense is just so excruciatingly terrible, that I don’t see how the Eagles can’t help but put up a large number of points on them.

Yes, the Redskins have had 10 days to get ready for this game, and you could argue that this is a revenge game for them after the embarrassment they suffered the hands of the Eagles on Monday night in Week 1. But the matchups on the field just scream Eagles across the board to me.

Given how sharp and efficient Nick Foles and the offense have been over the last two weeks, given the fact that the Redskins typically give up more than 30 points a game, knowing how Washington has struggled with the top Eagles’ weapons (McCoy, Jackson), I love the Eagles this week.

Its time to put the home-losing steak to bed.

Pick: Philadelphia 33, Washington 27

Should be an exciting game..
2 Keys for Eagłes Defense it limit RB Morris before he gets fumbling
and the Eagłes keying on TE Jordan Reed who has be one one of RG3 favorite Targets the last few weeks and presents a difficult matchup between LB’s & Safeties..
On Offense, McCoy has had big games versus the Skins as well as D-Jax who you have to assume will see a lot of CB D Hall and one of their Safeties across the Top so the Eagłes TE’s and Receivers Cooper & Avant should have nice games against the rest of the Redskins poor Secondary and LB play in pass coverage..
I am thinking of a real shoot out with Eagłes Winning 33-26 in a wild and wide open game.. Redskins Special Teams have really been poor this Season and maybe Eagłes return Team can have some big plays, maybe have D-Jax field some Punts and see what he can do..

Unfortunately, I have not been able to sit down and watch even one Eagles game this year due to family and work obligations.

My mom, who is 88, is in a nursing facility, and when I visit her on Sundays I am able to sneak into the activities room where someone always has the game on…So, maybe I watch bits and pieces…Mom rates over Kelly, Foles & Vick…I will follow live streams on the cell phone, and watch videos later that day.

As for predictions, I won’t even venture predictions for the Birds this season because there is just too much shuffling going on, and I don’t think we really have a handle on who the Birds really are.

But, yeah, a one touchdown spread seems about right…Tomorrow’s game will give us more insight on the Eagles future and who the REAL Eagles are.

Danny Basens has a pretty good record with his picks.

Thank you.

2 tds??

Its a division game. There won’t be any 2 td win. Neither team is significantly better than the other.

Birds win on a late td or fg. (like they should have last year had whoever that TE was hadn’t dropped that pass)

For whatever it’s worth,
This is a Pkayoff do or die game for the Skins who have to run the table to make the Pkayoffs (remember they won their final 6 games last season to an improbable NFC East Crown so I expect a very tight, close game as Redskins and perhaps Coach Shanahan may be Coaching for his future stay in Washington..

November 16, 2013 7:31 pm

This will be a close game, every eagles redskins game I remember except for the first half of the opening game this year, they have all been close, notwithstanding the talent disparity, usually favoring the eagles

The same this year

The eagles have talent disparity in their favor on the offense, with maybe a tie at running back, griffin is not on par with foles, Sunday will bear this out

Get to griffin

Make him pass, he cannot win this game with his arm

If he runs he’s dangerous, until you lay the wood on his skinny ass, then he’s done

Hoping for a great eagles win, but repect the redskins

Never picked up a crack pipe but drinking some good shit knob creek bourbon, straight of course

Morris is a great running back, he has about 40 less carries than McCoy but only shy about a hundred yards take into account his higher average per carry by math he’s better with the same amount of carries

I think shady is great, right now a tie

Morris struggled when RG3 was not at 100% to help open up the run game. He could not carry the load by himself. This is the first year Mcoy is in this type of offense, but he has carried the load without a running threat from the QB for about 3 seasons now. He is the real deal . Morris is good, but not in the same league as Mcoy. Second year player and all.

Alfred Morris is definitely a very good system running back. Shannahan is famous for taking a good back and making him look great, except Terell Davis, he was great regardless. Morris is not in the same league with McCoy.

What convo is that? Shady is consistently in the “best running back in the league” convo and I honestly think it comes down to AP, Shady and Arian depending on what you like to see out of your running back. Morris is not even close to sniffing their jockstraps.

You can’t include Aryan at this point as he has been so injury prone as of late. He’s out for the season I believe. When healthy…definitely, but he’s missed time which impacts his status. I think he’s reached that point where his body is succumbing to the running back expiration time frame.

Over the past 20 years we’ve watched moribund franchises like Indy, NE, NO, find “that guy”

You know who “that guy” is. He’s that guy that you know will will/lead that team to the playoffs (and beyond) every single year for a decade. Whose fanbases know that with ‘that guy’ behind centre, they have a chance in every single game, regardless of any other factor. ‘That guy’ gives the team a chance no matter what else happens. ‘That guy’ enforces his will on other teams. (and then is humble about it afterwards)

Fingers crossed that this game we see, for once and for all, that the Birds have ‘that guy’ under centre for the next 10 years. I think we have that guy, but am not yet sure.

Want.

Doesn’t rah-rah around much or Easter energy, just plays sound, physical and fast Football and I believe the younger DL are feeding off of his energy (Cox,Thornton & Logan).

This is why he throws a name like Conner Barwin out there trying to convince others that hes the leader when anyone with eyes and a brain know Barwin is not the leader of this defense..What crap, all because he said Ryans was washed up, also said Ryans will be released by the end of the year and that Kendricks will take over in the middle hahaha hes out of his mind, he cant be serious… sadly, I think he is, yikes…

You said he was washed up.. Wrong again wrongman.. Listen to Vinny Curry talk about how much of a leader DRyans is, not only on the field but also in the film room. That’s really where DRyans separates himself from everyone else.. Hes the leader and everyone on this team knows it and everyone watching the games know it, open your eyes..

Great first half.. Obviously a concern about McCoys hamstring who probably should sit out remainder of game so as not to reinjure it for the rest of the Season.. Bryce Brown/Polk & Brad Smith can pick up the slack, the key is to keep attacking this Redskins Defense with multiple formations and utilize the TE’s/Backs in the middle of the field as well as the outside match-ups with D-Jax/Cooper..
RB Morris is getting his yards, but let him as long as they keep RG3 in the Pocket and tentative out there..
CB Cary Williams has to do a better job of getting off his block and finding the ball, lots of Rollins his way and he seems to be lost or to engage with the receiver blocking him, get loose, find the ball and make a play is about the only complain I see on the Defensive side so far..
DL is playing well as are the LB’s..

If anyone does see how well Foles is playing and taking the easy plays and passes and getting the ball out to his playmakers consistently does not know good AB when they see it.. The Kid and offense are feeding off his quiet confidence and calmness and handling of the eagles Offensive Playbook..
Chip Kelly is calling a great Game as well, Kudo’s to him and his Staff..for the Redskins are on their heels and have no idea how to attack this Offense right now.. It’s great to watch a Team execute and on the same page.. Keep the pedal to the floor and do not let up..

You would agree with the other tool douchebag. You both go hand & hand. One is a Ruin 2morrow hemorrhoid, & the other is a Lebron hemorrhoid! Please, spare me both of your idiocy, & trolling!

you morons know little about TOS or T remaining.

It was 24-0. Game over.

You hate that I understand, but the game was over mid way through the 3rd.

Sure it was over. Whatever you have to tell yourself LIAR.

The pocket QB didn’t wipe out the scrambler…the Redskins D is Putrid the Ealges are only the second team in the last 8 games not to put 30 on them.

So no…things got a little too close. But a W is a W. No one is complaining about that. LIAR.

I’m very surprised at the weak arm RG3 has. His TD pass was a terribly under thrown ball, and two of his 15 yard out passes where nearly picked off because he had zero zip on the ball.

He is a good runner, but the whole team looks like they hold their breath when he runs. He looks like he takes direct contact hits rather than glancing blows like Wilson in Seattle.

Are you trying to make some sort of point?

Don’t know if I agree with your assesment of RG3 – but does it matter? *shrug*

Not trying to make any point, it was an observation. There were a few RG3 post, and I thought I wound mention something that I noticed. It really doesn’t matter. Sorry if I offended you.

Are there Redskins fans on this board too?

Followed up with another by Foles using his legs..
This guy as I said in my Scouting Reports before 2012 Draft is that he’s more athletic than you think and has good feet from his Basketball days..
A stiff, pure pocket passer he is not..

Defense folding up like a cheap suit, can’t let big passes over the Top in situations like this.. Foles/McCoy will have the win the game right here
Only a 1 Possesion game now..
