Arizona Cardinals May Be Toughest Opponent Left On Eagles Schedule

The Eagles have five games left on their schedule and they might have to run the table to make the playoffs.  This Sunday’s battle with the Arizona Cardinals may be the toughest of the five.  These aren’t the sorry Cardinals we have known for years.  This is an Arizona squad with a 7-4 record and they’re on a four-game winning streak.

They’ve got one of the game’s best wide receivers in Larry Fitzgerald and veteran quarterback Carson Palmer is playing very well.  Their offense is potent, but their defense is probably the strongest unit on the football team.

Eagles quarterback Nick Foles and the Birds offense have their work cut out for them this week when they face the Cards defense.  Foles will need to continue to play at the amazing level he’s been performing on.  The windows he’ll be throwing through will be very small, so the second-year quarterback will need to be on top of his game.

Arizona has tremendous talent throughout their defense starting with the defensive line, a duo of inside linebackers which is amongst the best in the league and their secondary has numerous big time playmakers.  They were all over Colts second-year quarterback Andrew Luck and his receivers yesterday in their 40-11 victory.

The defense is led by defensive end Darnell Dockett, inside linebackers Karlos Dansby and Daryl Washington, and cornerback Patrick Peterson.  They can be dominant when they force you to throw the ball because they have a tremendous pass rush with tight man-to-man coverage behind it.  The speed of their linebackers is scary.

Dansby picked off a Luck pass yesterday and ran it back for a score.  Washington is capable of making plays all over the field and Peterson may be the best cornerback in the league. He’ll probably be lined against DeSean Jackson all afternoon.

It’s going to be necessary that the Eagles get their running game going.  They don’t want to be one-dimensional against the Cards because it’ll make Foles’ job nearly impossible.  Chip Kelly will need to keep these guys guessing.

Kelly must be on top of his game with his play calls and Foles will need to continue his streak of avoiding interceptions and making good decisions with the football.

The Eagles will be back at work tomorrow after having a week off for the bye week.  I hope they come back to town ready to play their best football.

A very tough and physical match-up indeed and probably the most complete Team that they will face in their drive for the Playoffs
The game will be won or lost at the line of scrimmage..
Eagles OL & Foles will face the Best Fron 7 that they have faced all year
(More physical than the Chiefs) and a very good Secondary..
RB’s McCoy/Brown and TE’s working the middle of the Fiekd will be paramount to sustaining drives..

I’m interested in seeing Kelly after a bye, how he game plans, what type of offense he runs

I think he passes this test and the eagles continue to improve

The defense of the cardinals will only be as difficult as the offensive game plan allows, Kelly has some of the best offensive weapons in the game, McCoy, foles, Jackson, cooper if the game plan is solid the eagles offense will get it done

The bigger concern is defense, Palmer has been accurate of late with his own legit star in Fitzgerald,

Eagles pass another big test this Sunday

The cream rises

WR Michael Floyd has been stepping up too. He’s the kindof receiver that can hurt us if he is not taken into account in the defensive scheme.

This is a game Kelly is really gonna want to push tempo against. These guys are disciplined..the entire secondary are ball hawks. They don’t fall for pump fakes and other diversionary tactics. I think speed is the best defense the offense will have against Arizona’s defense.

I’ll give Kelly a slight edge ’cause he’s coming off the bye. However, I think the game can go either way – blow out either team – close game either team.

Should be fun.

The redskins trade to get RG3 may go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history looking back 10 years from now. This guy looks terrible and wont last 5 years holding on to the ball like he does, getting himself killed on every drive.
Giants/Cowboys also need to win now since Eli and Romo won’t get any younger either…

If the Eagles/Chip rebuild this team right the next 2-3 years, we will have great opportunity for the next decade to be in the playoffs year after year

On Sundays game, the Cards are no joke. They just destroyed a Colts team and are probably feeling themselves big time here. Will be fun to watch Djax v. Peterson. If the Eagles can pull out a win here, that would be huge since Cards might be the toughest opponent on the remaining sched

That’s just silly.

RG3 will be fine. Judging a guy on the year he comes back from knee surgery is silly. He shouldn’t have even played this year. And the Redskins aren’t a very good team outside of RG3. He’s in year two. It’s near to being the end of the world.

He needed some humbling anyway. Will do him some good.

I said it MAY go down as one of the worst trades ever 10 years from now, Im not saying that is what it is at this moment. And its not silly to think that when you watch RG3 this year considering what they gave up to get him. When a team selects a QB that high as one of the overall picks in the draft, you need to deliver a Superbowl or your career is a disappointment. Same pressure is on Newton and Luck, you don’t pick a QB that high to just have some impressive stats/sportscenter highlights. Now for RG3 they also gave up like what three first round picks. So considering what they gave up, it may be one of the worst trades ever. IMO, I don’t think this guy will ever win a SB mainly because he doesn’t look like he is good enough too all around and I just don’t think his health will allow him too. If he makes it to 30 in the NFL, I will be shocked with all the knee issues he already has and how he hasn’t learned to stop taking these big hits.

I agree with Xevious, in that I would be pissed if the Eagles gave away all those first round picks just to select one player even if it is a QB. Would I give one future first round pick yes…but 3 first rounders and a high second round no thank you.

Washington has a better QB sitting on the bench — Blaine Gabbert, Brandon Weedon, Matt Schaub, Josh Freeman, Christian Ponder all were yanked – RG3 now is the only starting QB left still starting who doesn’t deserve to be.

lmfao rg3 has some really awful habits and looks like an awful qb, takes way too many hits and holds onto the ball way to long. 23 fumbles in 26 games is disgusting.

shanahan is not helping the kid though he is awful and clueless these days.

rg3 should not be starting he is way lost out there

saying he shouldnt have played this year is foolish ts. his doctors cleared him but right he shouldve just said nah ill take a year off. lmfao

Shanahan stunted RGIIIs pro development by sticking with the stupid college QB rushing attack all last season. He chose short term gain over long term development. He’s a idiot.

That said, I love TS in here saying “he’s only year 2….” when she was writing off Foles after game 2!!

Pheagas I have said that since day 1. No way any player is worth three #1’s on a rebuilding Team. St Louis is gonna get another blue ribbon Pick from this deal. I Understand wanting a Blue chipper…but they can be busts too. RG3 is a good kid and has talent, but he’s been hurt already and is getting killed down there. Redskins are a bad team with No #1 next year to help him out..None this year…..Dumb bad trade. The kid is getting killed and that kinda stuff messes with young guys. Good debate though this is all speculation it’s what makes sports great.

RG3 is running a High School offense. NFL defenses are kicking the crap out of that pee wee football’s game plan. If RG3 doesn’t learn how to play real football by next year the backup QB will steal that job with the next head coach who won’t be married to a Shanahan draft pick. The difficulty level of the the opposing defensive coordinator’s job in Redskins week is a 2 out 10. eazy peezy

When a quarterback has a knee injury like RG3, it can take a long time before they get their mechanics back. If they come back and play before they are confident that they can plant, and pivot on that leg it can be ugly.

I remember when McNabb came back after his knee injury in 2007. For a year or more he couldn’t hit wide open receivers. He started throwing everything to BWest who had 90 receptions that year. I don’t think McNabb ever fully recovered from that.

I would also just like the Eagles to beat their asses just out of revenge. Just hate the Cards. They kicked our ass last year with Kevin Kolb. And that NFC champ game…those fraud Cards fans couldn’t even sell out that game…NFC champ game and they couldn’t sell it out. Yet we got thousands of people showing up to a damn preseason practice at the Linc. What a joke they are as a fanbase..Yet they got to go to the Superbowl over us…just like Tampa. The Football gods really don’t know what they are doing sometimes letting shit like that happen.

Its also a ‘donut’ for the Cards. They’ve just come off a big emotional ‘we’re good!’ win over the Colts. They have a big divisional matchup the following week.

They should be flat early, and Eagles hopefully can pounce.

Besides, its freekin’ Carson Palmer on the road in a big game.

I would rather play Seattle at home rather than the Cardinals. This is a very bad matchup for the Eagles offense. Kelce, Herrimans and Mathis are in for a long day with that huge, athletic DT combination that Arizona presents. You think Shady had to be a magician against the likes of the Redskins and Packers wait until he gets a good look at Arizonas front 7. It is what it is we haven’t “arrived” yet. The defense is gonna have to win it for us this week. I would try to up-tempo this team to death even if we aren’t moving the ball and hopefully the defense can keep us close to the 2nd half so we can tire them out and make a few plays to steal one in the 4th quarter.

If we cant run the ball then Foles is going to have to be extra sharp against the Cardinal secondary…he is going to have to make some plays and lead us to a victory in these next two weeks. The defense should keep us in the game…but they may have a problem handling the Cards big receivers…we need Foles and the offense to come up big…we need the game..its after a bye and long prep work by the coaches…Foles needs to pull it out for us!

Yep. That’s my take as well. I’m hoping the extra time has given Kelly some of that Andy Reid after the bye mojo. But Cardinals D ain’t fucking around. Haven’t all year. Palmer was just turning the ball over at an unprecedented rate early.

They made more than a few good QBs look silly. I’m giving them edge b/c of the bye…but I ain’t feeling too confident about it. It could go either way..or we could get Colts embarrassed.

10-6 will be the only way the Eagles make the playoffs. The Eagles will have to go 4-1 their last 5 to make the playoffs. 9-7 will mean they will probably lose the tie-breaker with Dallas for the division title even if they beat Dallas week 17. 9-7 also means they will probably lose the tie breaker to either Arizona, Detroit or Chicago(which ever one they would happen to lose to) in a tie breaker for the wild card spot. So it looks like 4-1 no matter which one they lose to will get them in. 3-2 and ending up 9-7 wont get it done.

Let’s see how it plays out Dag, I think 9-7 might get it done but your right 10-6 will pretty much guarantees a spot. Arizona’s defense is good no doubt but this Eagles offense with the exception of 2 games has moved the ball at will. Maybe Arizona should be worrying about how good our offense is and not the other way around.

It depends on the 3 wins…We beat Chicago Arizona and The Lions we have the WC Tie breaker over them at 9-7…If we add Dallas to the mix at 10-6 then we need washinton to beat Dallas and We can win the division at 10-6……lots of stuff going on We already beat Green bay..Pretty sure the playoffs are a decent possibility.

On the Positive, the 2 toughest games for the Eagłes are
Cardsinals & Lions and neither have a good track record on playing well on the road so the Eagłes must win these 2 at the Linc
Then win at Vikings and of course beat the Cowboys
If anyone thinks the Redskins will win another game and knock off someone is smoking something.. Redskins will lose out as HC Shanahan and his staff get fired after the Season..

Bruce Arians loves to thrown 10-20 yard pass patterns.
The Cards are not going to play it safe they are slinging it. The only way the Eagles beat the Cardinals is sacks and interceptions. Bruce Arians and Carson Palmer are very aggressive.

I love GMCliff’s Analysis of Prospects, but he is way too quick to write off Players and I have to call him out on it when he does.. For 90% of Rookie Players, it takes 2-3 Seasons before they really get acclimated to the NFL and to whatever System their Team plays, In fact, probably 90% of Draft Pickls/Rookies do not make an Impact or even Start or get onto the field much during their Rookie Seasons unless they are playing for a real bad Team that has no other options…

Give up on them too soon? He has had 2 good games all year, and most recently the last two games .LOL!!! He’s done nothing all year
LOL!!!….

No I don’t…..and NO, I haven’t been wrong with many in the first place. The ones that I have been have already been acknowledged….all 3 of them, out of what? hundreds?

Are you referring to Michael Floyd? – This is where you are notorious for rationalizing , because a player you like had a good game or 2. Michael Floyd, up until the 11th game of the year didn’t have one 100 yard game, although he did have 2 touchdowns – by the 11th game of the year. What are you so rah rah about? His last 2 games? I fail to see the consistency that makes you feel he is more than he really is. My analysis of him, is still correct, and you are rationalizing based upon his last 2 games. Spare me Brother. That’s not me giving up on them too soon, that you overvaluing his last 2 games like he’s an all pro…Yes, again rationalizing

Last year he had 45 receptions for 562 yards – This year he has 75 receptions, for 761 yards. Here is where it gets funny. DeSean had better numbers without really trying, and you wanted him gone, and considered him worthless……Double standard you say? I agree.

He’s not all that Paul. Open your eyes, and see the big picture.

Connor Barwin? – I have acknowledged he has been better than Linebackers, we have had in the past, but my evaluation of him, was that he wasn’t all that YOU thought he was. He has played well in episodes, but again not consistently, which is why I say he disappears in games, and I wasn’t the only poster that noticed that. You don’t, because you rationalize, that he can’t be upgraded.

My thinking is tight Jake, believe that Brother. That’s Paul patting himself on the back for nothing.

When have I compared WR Floyd to D-Jax, Cliff.. Your are starting to sound desperate and just can’t admit that Floyd is a good Player with a bright Future and upside ahead of him like I said he would be..
As a Rookie he Floyd 45 Passes for 562 Yards which is not bad considerering the turnstile the Arizona Cardinals had at the QB Position in 2012 first with Kevin Kolb for a few weeks, then John Skelton, then Ryan Lindley playing QB for the Cardinals and even Brian Hoyer the final 2 Weeks of the 2012 Season, but I guess that doesn’t make a difference to you… by the was All-World WR Larry Fitzgerald caught 71 Passes for 798 Yards (Career Lows) with this same dysfunctionable QB Corps and poor Cardinals Offense under their previous Coaches…

Now onto LB Connor Barwin, again, when did I say he was an All-Pro..
I stated for the record, that he’s a good All-Around LB, who can rush teh passer- drop back in coverage a Team Guy & a Natural Leader that Teammates and Fans would love to see Play…
Again you stated that he sucked and was worthless before he played in 1 Game for the Eagles… You are way too quick in writing off Players, Cliff
It’s like if you don’t discover a Player, then he sucks and is no good , at least thats the impression you are giving around here lately..

Bottom line for me is that Michael Floyd, hasn’t sidestepped his bust status just because he has had 2 good games in his career.

He didn’t have those good games, with Carson Palmer, until the 11th game of the year. How can you try to justify, his production? Rationalization. Like I said he isn’t all that. I never said he was worthless. I said, he wasn’t all that, and wouldn’t be much as a pro , which he himself has proven through his production.

Paul, those were Pro Coaches, with true NFL evaluation experience, who get recycled throughout the NFL, whether they are fired, or not they could tell that Michael Floyd wasn’t as advertised.

You’re only taking his last 2 games, and running with it to excuse yourself from your bad evaluation of him.

Even under this coaching staff, it wasn’t until game 11 that he had 1 good game. You are in denial Paul. You cannot sell me on him, just because his last 2 games were good. He hasn’t been consistent all year…Do better than what? He needs to do better for me to see a mistake in my evaluation of him.

At this point, Riley Cooper, who was drafted in the 4th round of that same draft, has had a better career than him. Stop it with Michael Floyd. You totally overvalued him that year, and right now.

On a side note, CB Brabdon Browner is now at level 3 with the NFL, meaning after his 1 year Suspension, he gets 1 final chance or faces a lifetime ban from the NFL and I guess you still want the Eagłes to pursue him… Crazy Cliff.. Snap out of it..
He’s no good to anyone if he doesn’t play..

I’m not frustrated at all Brother. My point is clear. I’m over here laughing at you.

He hasn’t played in 6-8 games, he has played in 27 games, with only 2 good ones. That’s not over defensive. I think your misreading me Paul. I stated upfront facts, that are hard for some to swallow.

I never said Kendall Wright was a bust, I said he wasn’t better than DeSean, as some were labeling him – and although he has had a decent 2nd year – he isn’t better than DeSean.

Coby Fleener is BOOTY…are you kidding me Paul? I was right about him too. You are taking a better season that they are having, and rationalizing their career is turning the corner. No it’s not.

I said the same thing about Trent Richardson, Dee Milliner, Stephen Gilmore – Did I give up on them too soon, or was I just Right?……..GMCliff was right…thank you for saying that….LOL!!!

This is the test that Foles needs! We need this win to stay in the hunt for the division. Its at home…no excuses…we need the win!

For me- the game plan is simple… quick hits!!

The best way to get Docket, Dansberry and Washington OUT of being a factor is to get rid of the ball quick. I expect to see big bodies like Eretz, B.C. and Cooper get their touches. Im excited to see what Chip has drawn up for a game such as this. If he has a bunch of things not yet used… this is the time to bring em out.

I don’t think the Eagles have the personnel to play a quick hit game. Chip relies on Shady McCoy play action to get Cooper and Djax deep or come backs and pick your poison crosses. Even in the two minute drill they use play action ( frustratingly so )

watch week 1- they can use that same option play to get rid of the ball fast. Use this to get a rythem early.

Cardinals D sniff off those damn screens like like a damn hound dogs on a hunt. The other thing is Foles has had all day to throw over the last few weeks – I don’t know if the oline holds up as well against this kind of front 7 – this is a good a defense as they faced since the Chiefs.

AND they don’t have to sell out the pass to stop the run. They can rush 3 or 4 and get HELLA pressure. I like to beleive Kelly’s scheme can mitigate some (a lot ) of that…but I’m nervous ’bout it to say the least.

Chip will be on the top of his game…but Foles will have to be extra sharp! Todd Bowles knows him and they will be coming at us really hard. Mike Caldwell is the linebacker coach there too…he will have the LB’s prepared for that…I hope that the Offensive Line is has dominate as we have been in the last few weeks…that’s what we will need for the win…a dominate running game

The NFL is so unpredictable this season. One week a team looks unbeatable and the next they look average. Who knows what we will see on Sunday. There were similar concerns against the defenses leading up to the Bucs and Raiders. And then we smoked them and after all the talk was they never had good defenses to begin with. My guess is if we don’t turn over the ball, mainly if the QB doesn’t turn it over, we should win this game. Vick was a turnover machine against this defense last year and it killed us where Kolb played efficient. If we can turn Palmer into that turnover machine this year, and if Foles keeps protecting that ball like he has been doing, we should win easy.

If Foles starts throwing up those passes with a lot of air under them, hoping that cornerbacks fall down or run into each other…the Honey Badger and Patterson are going to pick him off. If our offensive line plays like they did when Vick was in there…Foles is going to have a rough time….we need the O-line to step up big time…keep the pressure off of the kid and put it on Shady…open up running lanes for him…this is the best way for Foles to protect the ball…

Yeah…I had that thought. He CANNOT under throw balls or throw those balls with all that hangtime against these guys. Also, receivers better watch out too…I joked earlier in the year that the Cardinals D doesn’t even worry about interceptions – they will rip the damn ball out your receivers hands. Everyone needs to be on their A. Game for this one. lol

You clowns are clueless, foles put air under those balls because that was the only way only his receivers could catch them, it explains his near perfect qb rating and no pics, with sixteen interceptions, but in your jaded, biased thinking it is luck, but you are hopeless racists

I guess we can put to bed that Sean McDermott and Todd Bowles are terrible Defensive Coordinators… It was the horrible talent that we had on Defense when they were here…which interistingly enough is gone except for Allen and Cole.

This is a TOUGH matchup. We’ve struggled with teams who can match up one on one with Desean. I hope Nick brings his A game.

I hope the oline brings their A game. ‘Cause they are gonna be the ones who decide this game, at least offensively.

Ya they’re playing well right now. Who could have predicted they’d improve so much?

Oh wait, I did.

Olines always improve when…you know who…isn’t under centre. It happened in Atl, Philly under Reid, and now Philly under Kelly….

These things easy to predict when they happen over and over and over again.

hey paulman, layoff, you are good, gmcliff is good, you don’t need to be king kong bangin on your chest, and gmcliff was the only poster here who predicted both Foles and Vick would be on the roster and that Barkley was not any good, and cliff was the only poster who really stuck his neck out for Foles, that’s damn good scouting
