Niners Will Score Just Enough To Beat Seahawks

ColinKaepernick3The second game today is going to be a serious physical battle with the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers going at it.  I like the 49ers in this one because they have more weapons than the Seahawks.  If Percy Harvin had been effective last week and was healthy enough to play in this game I would have leaned toward the Seahawks.

I think Russell Wilson is going to struggle because Seattle doesn’t have enough weapons for him to throw the ball to.  They can run the football, but Wilson hasn’t been playing well.  He’s been off target with his throws and has become nothing but a manager, not a big playmaker.

The San Francisco defense will be able to keep Marshawn Lynch under control.  The Niners front seven is as good as any in the league, plus they’ve been up there and they know what they’re getting ready to face.  “Beastmode” is going to carry the football at least 25 times, so San Francisco has to be aware of him on each and every play.  If they keep Lynch under control, the Seahawks have no where else to go.

The Niners offense has been expanding in its complexity and getting better each and every week.   Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been playing very well and he’s got his favorite receiver Michael Crabtree back in the lineup.  Tight end Vernon Davis is healthy and playing well.  Anquan Boldin is as tough a receiver as any in the game.

Frank Gore is an outstanding inside runner, who does a great job of getting that inside yardage.

I see them going after the Seahawks by throwing the ball on first down to keep them off balance, then pounding them with Gore.

It’s going to be a low scoring game, so the Niners won’t have to score much to get the win.  I see the final score being San Francisco 16-13.

We better draft some damn defense. Stop worrying about WR and friggin offense. These two defenses make ours look like a junior high defenses. These defenses are filled with BIG NASTY MEN.

I think that’s the plan. However, I believe they stress taking the best player on the board. If the best player on the board is an offensive player and the defensive player is 3rd on their board…who would you take…the offensive or defensive player?

Heres a revelation. Take the BEST DEFENSIVE player available at 22. lol. Its hard for me to believe the offensive player at 22 is head and shoulders better than the best defensive player available at 22. What if the best player everytime the Eagles pick is a offensive player. Fuck that philosophy. Theres defensive players worthy of every Eagles selection.

Naw….If I have a shot at a play making offensive player with a physical skill set different than those we have over a guy who may be good but is similar to what we have, I’ll pass and take the offensive player.

But realistically they may be no better than what you have already on the team…..You’re assuming their skills, and highlights translates to the NFL….We may end up with another Stephen Hill….No thank you.

I can’t judge Stephen Hill yet, look at the QB situation, also it’s his first year. Two of my first 3 picks will definitely be defense, actually, 4 of myfirst five. However, I have enough confidence in my ability to assess talent to the point of where I can find what I need defensively in any of the first 5-6 rounds.

That’s your assessment. I can’t judge him yet. Honestly I did not watch the Jets this year so I don’t know what he did. I do know he had a very good combine. I’ll take your word on it, but I won’t let that determine what I think. Actually it does’nt matter because I will not be paying much attention to the Jets anyway. I watched the Noles a lot this year because I’m a Jameis Winston fan, I knew nothing of Benjamin. I was forced to pay attention to him because he consistently made plays on the ball all over the field.

Your Right Dag…That is what the Eagles should be thinking about. Some of these 1st Round WR’s won’t even be as good as they think.

If Khalil Mack, or Kony Ely is within reach, or somhow they go for it, and get Both….GMCliff will give Howie Props for having some balls, and getting exactly what we need.

Some in the GCobb Family are too enamored with WR’s in the draft. I agree we need 2, but not in the first round. Our Defense was ranked 31st in Overall Team Defense this year……Fix the Defense – We cannot continue to ignore the weakest part of this team..

The two teams left in the playoffs in the NFC, are there because of mainly their Defense…..How can we compete with them, and get to a SuperBowl, with a mediocre defense that plays over its head. That won’t work every week – Fix the Defense

Hey Cliff that would be a great theory except last draft should have been a defensive draft as well and we know how that turned out. At 22 if Benjamin is there and the 10th best defensive player is on the board who do you take?

Your right Cliff, I think Watkins and Benjamin are head and shoulders the best receivers out there but I’d rather get Benjamin then to settle for the 5th best OLB or the 4th best safety. We saw today where great defenses can get you but you know this better then most when you reach for a guy based on need you lose.

All I can say is we will see. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Benjamin, i am just not sure what I saw at Florida State, is a product of his overall talent, or the teams Offensive System. I feel the same way about Mike Evans, Jamis Winston, and Marcus Mariota…….

There are some WR’s that can be had in the 3rd -7th Rounds who may have as good, or better careers in the NFL as Benjamin, or Watkins. I know it’s hard to see, because they shine so bright in the eyes of a lot of people who assume with no thought of them not being as good as advertised…….But we will see.

paul, just because you constantly push your guys, don’t mean they fit our DF. What part of that don’t you understand? Bennett does not fit the 3-4 defense. Aren’t you sick of square pegs, in round holes? I am! That was our downfall this year. Cole, Graham, Curry, Logan, Cox, Thornton, Matthews, all were either out of position, or playing in the wrong defense. Not to mention the players like Chung, Allen, Fletcher, & Wolff, who aren’t even starters. Again, some of the guys you want in FA, & in the draft, are good players, but don’t fit here, period. Being stubborn, doesn’t make it right. Same goes for gmcliff, with his refusal to draft a WR in the 1st, & drafting a lower graded defensive player. Sign all defensive FA’s, then draft weapons & depth in the draft. That’s the reason why last years off-season was a failure in my eyes. The draft was @$$ backwards, & all of the FA’s were nothing but garbage signings. Barwin, & Jones were the only consistent players signed. Bet you they regret not signing Knighton, Sean Smith, Quin, Keenan Lewis, instead of the slop they signed in Sopoaga, Chung, & both overpaid CB’s.

How many times have I mocked him (Pierre Desir), in my 3rd-4th Round Draft Biggie?

You are right, But some will shy away because he played at small Linwood College, and the competition is a triple step up – I agree, but you have to look at the overall talent, and ability – He has a little Prime Time in him, but he is physical, can really wrap up and tackle…and he runs a 4.43…….

I draft him in the 4th Round w/ him at 6-2, and Kyle Fuller at 6-1, they can be the future starting CB’s in 2 years – Brandon Boykins is a good athlete, and a fantastic backup, but he is not a starter.

I wouldn’t say we saw two great young QBs today. Aside from Kapernick making a few plays with his legs, I thought both struggled and turned the ball over too much. How in the world do you fumble the first play of the game on your own 20? He looked like Vick running around with a loaf of bread. Kap had 3 turnovers and another fumble that he luckily recovered. On the other hand, I thought Kap was going to win the game. His legacy was about to start coming together as a clutch QB but he’ll have to wait until next year. You wanna talk about great; let’s talk about Peyton because he was brilliant.

Now, there really shouldn’t be a single word mentioned about the QB play because it was average at best. What last night showed me is just how nasty these two defenses are and how far off we are. Good Lord those defenses was amazing.

Anyways Kaep made a few plays when the play broke down. Few to none when the play didn’t break down. And most times when the play didn’t break down he broke it down himself by throwing 2 picks, fumbling twice , throwing air balls, throwing dirtballs, scrambling for no reason and not getting the ball to his playmakers

How much does gcobb pay you to write with poor grammar, make ridiculous posts, just to falsely portray yourself as a brother from the hood when in reality you are probably some pin head college professor, with a degree in piled high and deep, aka Phd, in sociology or some related endeavor

Seriously, there is no other way to explain your posts

I have discussed with you non football issues and your writing, thought, although sometimes equally controversial, your writing is clear. Reason behind some of which you say.

But with the quarterback of the eagles your postings have me believing you are a paid agitator, or troll as these dudes say, because even though there are stupid sports fans in the world, nobody, nobody can be as stupid as you sound with your posts about foles

Last Seahawks loss, Sherman made 2 pics, but got beaten by Carson Palmer to Michael Floyd for the winning TD.

Sherman is top notch, no doubt, and I expect him to come up with a couple of big plays against the Broncos, but he’s not superman. [—-)

Harbaugh had three timeouts on that last drive, and could be he should have discussed things a little bit with Kaepernick as they were driving…Those timeouts served no purpose after the Seahawks intercepted the ball.

GM Amaro is talking actively with OF Vernon Wells who was released by the Yankees a few weeks back.. Wells is bring paid $21 Million from the Angels/Yankee’s whether he plays or not anymore.. The Phils can pick him for the League Minimum and add yet another “Veteran” to their Line-Up..
It appears that GM Amaro is going “all-in” for what should be his Final Season as Phils GM…

Great players make plays…which is what we saw Kaepernick and Wilson do against two of the best defenses in the NFL with Seattle and San Francisco…they kept plays alive with there feet…made great runs, outstanding on the money throws with pressure on them…and the best defense in the league -Seattle made enough plays for them to hang on to the win.
We have already seen Kaepernick make plays to beat Green Bay and Carolina in the playoffs…he is head and shoulders over Nick Foles…he took his team to the Super Bow last year and the NFC Conference championship this year.
Wilson has taken his team to the Super Bowl this year making clutch throws in key moments of the game…the young QB is a winner and a clutch money player. We need a QB like Wilson or Kaepernick to put us in that elite status

Eaglehaslanded…when have you ever brought forth an original thought to this forum? Did you watch the game or did you just read the stats after the game? Your same old and tired ‘stats’ arguments always ignores the realities of what happens in the game.
Kaepernick was clutch in this game…Seattle beats SF easily without his performance. He made mistakes, but he made some amazing plays that gave them a legitimate chance to win. He made some amazing throws in that very last drive. to put them in position….and then the best cornerback in the league made a great play to bail Seattle out!
Watch the game on TV sometimes instead of just reading the boxscores and the stats…the game was on Fox…you dont even need cable to get Fox man….damm!

The last pass was under thrown, the other int was a piss poor decision and under thrown, the two fumbles were poor ball security and being unaware of the play around him. He made some nice plays.. The throw for a TD was a play only he makes… But overall it was a subpar game in which he choked in the 4th

The last past was on the money…Sherman just made a great play and got a hand on the ball…he made a number of amazing throws under pressure on the money…Seattle’s secondary dont give QB’s a lot of wide open receivers to throw the ball too…they are the best in the league…he kept them in the game…made plays with his feet and it took an outstanding play from the best corner in the league to keep Kaepernick from throwing a winning touchdown in the end

Clutch is overcoming adversity and making plays….he made plays against the BEST defense in the NFL…hands down.. not just a ‘good’ defense…the last play was a brilliant play by Sherman…not a bad throw at all…Sherman read the receiver and knew to make a play on the ball
The bottom line is that San Francisco is blown out….if Kaepernick does not make the plays to keep them in the game. The ONLY reason they had even the slightest chance to win is because of Kaepernick! Gore gave them nothing…receivers were on lock down by the secondary…Kap kept them in the game….
anyone who cant acknowledge those simple facts are simply football ignorant and probably drunk!

Wilson and Kap are both more than game managers because they make plays…when the play breaks down or doesn’t go exactly as plan they can improvise…they can create other options…with their legs…the deep ball that Wilson threw early in the game…when the play had broke down…is an example…

Chokers dont lead the team down the field with amazing throws prior to the last pass…Kap was making plays…rallying the team…you were on the edge of your seat thinking that San Fran was going to win until…Sherman makes the big play….
And leave Foles out of this! He has never made the kind of throws that Kap was making in the game yesterday..he dont attempt some of those throws…if does not see the receivers wide open…he is not throwing the ball..Some of those passes Kap completed were gunned in between defenders…some over outstretched defenders hands…Seattle secondary dont leave many wide open receivers at all…you have to beat them with pin point accurate passes….Nick Foles dont throw them kind of passes he aint Tom Brady or Manning…or Kap or Wilson….he is not on that level at all!!

Crapernick this playoffs:

45 of 82 (a terrible 55%) a measly 576 yrds weasly 3 tds and 3 ints….yards per attempt (should be high with his “big time arm” and all…nope…..a minisculoe 7 yrds/attempt.

From now on every time a terrible QB gets carried by the rest of his team through the playoffs despite his below-mediocre play, we’ll call it a Crapernick.

Ladies and gentlemen I have been told this is the FUTURE of quarterbacking!

Foles on the 49ers and they’re still playing. Crapernick on the Eagles and they’d have a top 10 draft pick.

Ladies and Gentlemen we’ve also been told because Wilson had no rushing yards Sunday that means he’s not a mobile QB. The Niners will be just fine with Kap they will contend again next year but in reality if your a Eagle fan who cares what they do or how Kap does. The reality is mobile QB’s are here to stay. The most important reality is you try to win with what you have if that means mobile or pocket you make do. But I know in your world there is only one way to win a game.

Keep changing those paramaters.

3 weeks ago you were here dropping exclamation points whenever one of the other 3 did something you felt was great – usually scramble for 30. You clearly stated that running QBs were better than Foles because they can do “other things” (ie run) when the play broke down, and that because Foles was incapable of ripping off 50 yard runs he was an inferior QB.

Running (not mobile) qbs were the future (a future we’ve seen fail over and over in the past of course)

Now that 2 of the ‘running’ Qbs have shit the bed (completely predicted btw), the future is no longer “duel threat running qbs”…its now “mobile” QBs.

Well no shit sherlock.

Every Qb has to move around a bit – but the successful QBs (now and in the future) do so IN THE POCKET. Qbs who leave are not protected by the rules, get pounded into the turf, take more physical punishment (and are eventually injured more often) and fumble the ball. The offense becomes inconsistent as teammates can never have any expectation of what they are supposed to do on any play once the freelancing starts.

Running qbs have never enjoyed any consistent NFL success, and they never will.

Functional mobility to avoid a rush step up (not out) of the pocket and deliver the ball is of course, very very important.

Foles has more than adequate pocket mobility.

Kap and wilson ALSO leave the pocket A LOT (nearly a combined 2k i believe) and have represented the NFC the last 2 years in the superbowl. That sounds pretty successful to me.

Not to speak for those two as I thin vinnie is the exact same as hot air???stick to the talking points no matter what. But this stems from people on this site saying our guy is ass based on their agenda …fact of the matter is we have a good one. He doesn’t run well but he wins from the pocket with good decisions. Give him Crabtree, Davis and Boldin and those records he set might be even greater. Wilson I think is Fran Tarkington reincarnated. Kap has a long way to go. He can’t beat you from the pocket

I think we are just fine with who we have, I’ll take Davis. I don’t think Bolden and Crabtree is much of an upgrade then Jackson and Maclin in the offense that we run. Bolden would equal Avant in our offense. Just my opinion cigar.

have- i agree. This is why i try to be level headed and I believe am a student of the game (and by game I mean x’s and o’s… not players).

I have said over and over that guys like Vinnie and Songs are just plain silly.

I felt comfortable with both of our QB’s and believe the D is the major spot needed to fix. I am 100% happy with Foles and am excited that we have another year to see what he can do before having to commit big bucks to him. Not because I dont believe he is and will continue to be the guy… but because it HELPS the eagles in the long run.

Its a team game and I like (not fully love yet) our team. If they add size on D and a big WR…. i will love this team.

Read what I wrote about this..

The fact remains…. there are many ways to win in this league… of the 4 teams that remained.. 2 were running qb’s and 2 were all time greats… for the second year in a row a running qb is in the superbowl.

Id still take what we have on O over what they have (minus those big physical WR’s) BUT…..; sorry to say Vin, its not all about the QB. Its a team game.

Birds are FINE on O and need to get better on D. Same thing ive been saying for several years.

@antitrust what game did you watch Sunday? I saw intentional groundings fumbles taking off and running in circles, what reads was he going through? You do what is necessary to win a football game maybe if we stop putting stupid labels on guys we can get past this nonsense. If Kap would have completed one more pass Sunday the talking heads would have lost their minds kissing his ass. Instead you got idiots on this board calling him Crappenick after this kid regardless of how well his defense is has played in a Super Bowl and a NFC championship game in less then two full seasons of starting.

I didnt get a chance to watch Sunday, I was watching some great music artists at Vinoy Park in St pete! Tedeshi Trucks, Galactic, Hot Tuna, JJ Grey, even Leon Russell! It was great. Those are just my observations from watching Wilson in the past, that he looks through the progressions before just taking off running like a QB like Kaep or Vick. Wilson reminds me of Steve Young with his mobility.. not at Young’s ability yet as a passer and overall QB, but I think he has similar upside. (BTW, I thought Young was the best QB of the 90’s). Kap is a very talented QB also. He didnt light a fire under the league this year like he did last year, but he is a very talented young man with good size and should be good for years to come. If I had to pick between the two, though, I’d go with Wilson as the guy who will have a better overall career.

so is Tedeshi Trucks… Derek Trucks (plays in the Allman Brothers band, he is basically Duane Allman reincarnated) and his extremely talented wife, Susan Tedeshi. They are one of the best jam/blues/rock bands going today IMO! JJ Grey was fantastic, he didnt have mofro with him, just played by himself. I live in Good Old Ocala, Florida. LOL Cant wait for Wanee Festival at the Spirit of Suwanee!

Horse country, does Travolta still live out there? Yea they all perform at Jax Beach during the summer but it gets tough to get out there we have little ones and the crowd has been getting out of hand down there lately.

Derek Trucks an excellent musician as is Susan Tedeschi ..
They played here in Boone last Fall at our University (Appalachian State University)
Trucks announced that he is leaving the Allman Brothers Band after their Spring 2014 Shows to commemorate the ABB 45th Anniversary Run of Shows at Madison Square Garden to concentrate on his own Band with Tedeschi as is Warren Haynes after these MSG Shows.. Haynes also will focus on Gov’t Mule Projects and the 100 other things he’s involved with as a musician

Though to be completely honest, the only reason either guy was in the Championship game is because of their Defense. Best two D’s in the league. Can you imagine the Eagles if they had Seattle’s D, along with our O! I do believe the Eagles have a better offense than both seattle and san fran, but having a “Shut Out Ability” defense is certainly the way to build a team!

agreed Anti but if you have listened to 1 or 2 guys here…. D’s dont really matter. Coaches either…. for the simpletons- It’s all about the QB. At the start. At the middle. At the end.

2 weeks from now if the Broncos win it all- they will point to the fact that an good QB trumps all. Forget the fact that Manning is prolly the greatest of all time because those grow on trees.

And to be clear I wouldn’t trade Foles for either Wilson or Kap even if they threw in a draft pick.

I love that Foles is an Eagle, and it is also exciting to see how talented the QB’s are in this league, especially the young guys. and you are right, there are different ways of playing QB that are successful.

believe me……Foles is not even in a conversation for a trade for Kap or Wilson……

Hell, the Bills wouldn’t trade Manuel for Foles.

Foles is slow and average at best and could only thrive with the best RB in the league.

Without the threat of Shady, Foles is Rex Grossman.

Songs- for years I’ve agreed with you about what we need on D but…. you are dead wrong about our O. Foles is the real deal… his smarts makes him WAY better than that of Kap. My question to you is this, why bother talking about what other teams have? Do we have a chance to land any of those other QB’S? Why obsessover Kap like vinnie does Vick?

Birds O was very very good under Foles. Lets work on the D.

Does anyone doubt that if Vick remained the QB the Eagles and they still finished 10-6 and lost the Wild-Card Game to the Saints after getting the lead with 4-5 Minutes that all Songs would be talking and bitching about this Off-Season is DC Billy Davis and the shitty Safeties Chung/Allen and missed Tackles, blown COverages, etc, etc about the Eagles Defense.. Songs is nothing but a “Chump Ass’ and really just needs to be ignored…

Excellent points Paul… Unfortunately arguing with a crazy person or drunk (songs is one or the other) is pointless. For all vinnies stats this was the best argument against that fruit loop… He will ignore it I’m sure

You claim this web site is Jerry Springer

That is perfect, except you exclude yourself from the participants

Your assessment would carry credibility if you were never part of the frey, but you are right in line with some of your posts, especially against dcar, and others, you disparage the education level without knowing the degrees earned by some here

But it is Springer, and you are part of the participants

Maybe you are Dr. Evil in that spoof in Austin powers, where his son, Scott, talks about his dysfunctional father.

Never said I wasn’t. It’s a guilty pleasure I guess. I think it’s comical people challenging fights, locking caps, cursing… Trashy but comical.
Who amongst us even the reasonable ones hasn’t paused on jerry when some uneducated group of he said/she said morons are ready to fight and you hear more bleeps than dialogue….
