When It Comes To Diagnosing Injuries, The Phillies Have No Credibility

Phillies Braves BaseballThe Phillies kicked off Spring Training by announcing some disturbing news concerning their top pitcher Cole Hamels.

Hamels announced that he has been dealing with shoulder discomfort, and doctors had discovered tendinitis in his biceps. The former World Series MVP said that he’s unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, and could possibly miss at least a couple of starts in April.

However, Hamels and the Phillies spent the day assuring us that there is no cause for concern. Cole “feels great”, everything is under control, and this surely won’t be anything to worry about long-term.

Just like how Roy Halladay was in “great shape” last Spring, and ready to dominate like his old self. And yet, Halladay struggled through Spring Training and a handful of embarrassing starts before Halladay and the team admitted he had some bigger issues going on, and finally put him on the disabled list.

Just like how Chase Utley was only going through “general soreness” two years ago, and was still going to be in the lineup on Opening Day. Only, Opening Day arrived, and we saw Freddy Galvis manning second base instead of the former All-Star. Utley didn’t join the team until several months of the regular season had already come and gone.

Just like how Brad Lidge was only experiencing “minor knee issues” before the 2011 Spring Training, and was expected to make it back by Opening Day. Until Lidge and the team came to the realization that he wouldn’t be ready to go until May.

When it comes to injuries, the Phillies have been either horribly wrong or brutally dishonest with the reports that they’ve given.

Maybe Cole Hamels’ shoulder problem really isn’t all that serious. Maybe he’ll only miss a couple of starts, and come back strong for another great season. But we’ve been down the road of “nothing to see here” with the injury report from this organization too many times in the last few years for this news not to be a major concern.

They have no credibility in anything. Diagnosing injuries, evaluating talent, negotiating contracts, allocating salary & funds, hiring staff, drafting players, properly building a team, knowing what the fans want, & anything that basically comes out their pie holes! F^#@ Ruin 2morrow, .300 Monty, this AARP $#!t roster, the Crypt keeper owners, & all of the butt slurping media clowns, & the lemmings!

Not so much the credibility as is the expertise their scouts stink, player development people stink,gm stinks, pitching coach stinks, owners stink, public relations stink, gonna take years to make this team right and the only real way is to cut the head off and kill the body and start new.meaning get new and real baseball minded owners and start over again naturally something that in all reality aint happening for us so thats why I made up my mind I dont watch them care about them and just dont give a shit bout them and if most of you had that attitude too they would do something about this sick piece of shit they laughingly call a team and a major league organization yea right and if my aunt ellie had balls shed be my uncle jed

Another kneejerk pessimistic view of Philly Sports by a jaded negative press. How can Amaro or anyone (including Paulman) know how Hamel’s (or anybody) shoulder will respond in the future. Who knew Utley could rebound like he did last year.

Phils were able to trade Michael Young into Rob Rasmussen then trade Rasmussen into Brad Lincoln –
now that is better than credibility that is Championship building, LOL

realistic is what i’m being dixie not living in a dream world and thinking this poor excuse for a team can contend something they have been proving for bout last 6 seasons if you were watching what everyone else was and is you would have the same conclusions as us all but then again someone with the name dixie dont sound like he was raised in philly more like he should be or is a non philly fan who is putting his three cents in the mix and dont know his ass from a hole in the fukin ground now that aint jaded thats telling a strapper where its at

Born and raised in Philly – as a boy attended the 60 championship game and lived through the 64 Phillies season – job has me living in GA —but will always bleed green

Good article & summary of the Phillies deceptive PR approach.

Is it a coincidence that this type of thing started under the Amaro regime?

Amaro is a Stanford grad: Beware of anything that comes out of Stanford or even worse, Harvard.

Howard went on the defensive yesterday when reporters started questioning him he has a bad case of the rollinstitus. They should give him 2mon the most and then platoon his fat ass when he shows he still and never will hit leftys or hit anything but a fast ball 80 mil left man amaro knows what hes doing he really, really does the jerkoff.

I do like the Burnett signing. If Hamels comes back healthy (reports in SD say he’s fine) then we should have a solid rotation. Only time will tell..

Lets hope this team can stay healthy like some of the Red Sox and Yankee teams in years past.
