Notes From The Phillies’ 5-0 Loss To Pittsburgh

ascheThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their Grapefruit League match to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

  • Sean O’Sullivan started today’s game, and allowed two runs on four hits in four innings.
  • Jonathan Papelbon allowed two runs on three hits in one frame of work.
  • Antonio Bastardo allowed a solo home run on 1.2 innings, but also struck out four batters.
  • Carlos Ruiz batted out of the cleanup position, and went 1-3. Ruiz is batting .280 for the spring.
  • Ryan Howard continues to hit out of the five-hole, and went 2-3. His average has increased to .243.
  • Darin Ruf went 0-4, dropping his average to .222.
  • Cody Asche served as the team’s DH, and went 0-2.
  • Maikel Franco played third, and went 0-3.
  • The Phillies went 0-5 with runners in scoring position.

Final Thoughts

Neither Cody Asche or Maikel Franco have been able to step up and grab a hold on the starting position at third base.

Asche is batting just .138 with one home run and three RBI’s. Franco has been hitting just .208 with no homers and two RBI’s.

At this point, I’d say Asche has the slight edge due to his defensive capabilities, but the job is still very much up for grabs over the next few weeks.

Dreadful & hopeless…… That’s the best description I can give for this embarrassment of an organization.

From top, to bottom, this organization needs an enema! From senile .300 Monty- Ruin 2morrow- the scouts- medical staff- 3/4 of the roster. Flush them all!!!!

Only the Houston Astros are a worse steam than the Phils in 2014, and their Fram System is loaded with Young Talent
Who will get a chance to Splay this Sunmer
Meanwhile the Phils keep trotting out 35 Year Old Players who have made their Millions and Won their Championship 5 Years ago and are simply riding it out.. Just Brutal

Correa, Springer and Appel and then there is a big dropoff. Everyone was going crazy about ex Phils prospect Singleton, but he hit .220 in AAA last year and now admits to having a drug problem.

The Astros may have some more players that are closer to getting to the majors, but then again, look what they have at the major league level and look where they pick in the draft. Plus, they have been having annual firesales. They farm better be producing.

that defensive circle faceoff with both Coots and Giroux on the ice is producing goals and penalties, coach deserves a thumbs up for that lineup shuffle.
